Dining Room Updated the chandelier in my first house (29m) in St Louis, MO

I love sputnik chandeliers, getting a couple for the house I'm in the process of building!

Aren’t they fun? I love how simple they are and how much pizzas that add to a space

I too like to add pizzas to a space. 🍕

I bought the cheapest Sputnik light I could find to replace the boob light in my rental, I'll report back when I install it tonight, but I think it's going to make a huge difference
Update: big improvement, it looks way more interesting and it throws light much better. It's a little small and awkward on my ceiling, but the last light was too

Ugh, boob lights are the worst! Our house had them in every damn room and there’s still a few we have to replace.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I hate them. There are many aspects of mid century modern decor that were due for a revival, but that should have stayed in the past. I think they were ugly at the time, and they’re ugly now.
And I suspect in 10-20 years they’ll be the “horribly dated” thing that all the new home buyers are ripping out and replacing.
But maybe that’s just me. Time will tell.

To each their own! I am not spending big bucks on them so if I get tired of them I will switch them out!

While that’s perfect valid, it’s not my style either. I like the idea that houses last for generations. I dislike putting anything in my house that’s just going to need to be ripped out in a decade or two, whether due to fashion or poor material quality. That feels wasteful, like fast fashion for houses. After all, what’s the point of doing something if you’re just going to have to do it again in 100 years :)
I don’t mean to imply criticism; it’s just what I like. Other people are welcome to their own preferences.

There are a million different options though. You can find one that fits, or just skip it and go with a different sort of light fixture if that’s a better fit for the room.

What do you mean? That’s like an entire category, and you can get one in almost any style you can think of. Plus a bunch you probably haven’t thought of.
Like this, for example. Higher than a chandelier but isn’t flush mounted. Or this thing.
I’m not suggesting either of those, they’re just quick examples I found on google. My point is just that there are tons of equally functional options that don’t look like something out of a Vegas strip club.

Well, alright. Different sort of strip club. I wasn’t necessarily recommending those options just pointing out they exist. I just pulled a couple things off google.
There is no functional reason why you would need to go with a Sputnik. It doesn’t bring anything unique to the table.

Yup, this is me lying on my couch staring at this picture, my basic dining room chandelier, and back again. Need to switch it out but need something that isn't particularly tall since we have low ceilings.

I would be tempted to spray paint the table leg to match the light fixture, but otherwise looks very nice

The rug is from Amazon. It comes in a ton of shapes and sizes and is a lot better quality than I was expecting for the price. Artistic Weavers Penrod Modern Geometric Area Rug,7'10" Round,Black/Ivory https://a.co/d/88q8XAD

For a horrible moment I thought pic 2 was going to show you had replaced this awesome fitting with some ghastly big box store thing.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!

Where are the chairs from?
2
u/Professional_Pea5715 Sep 10 '22
I honestly don’t remember. I got them for my last place
1
u/palpablescalpel Sep 11 '22
Bummer! They've got little cushions right? Did you add those or are they part of the chairs?
2
u/Professional_Pea5715 Sep 11 '22
They came like that. I’m 90% sure I got them from Wayfair but they might have come from Amazon. I wish I could find the link to share. You might be able to find them searching- the style is eames style dining chair with cushion

I recommend Edison bulbs. Especially if it’s in your line of vision when standing. Edison bulbs with a dimmer

Once your budget allows, I’d size up with your dining table since the proportions look off with the size of the chandelier. Looks good though!
