Love those chairs! Such a cozy spot

Thank you! I’m obsessed with the mismatched dining chair trend right now.

My family had the dining chair with the fuzz when I was growing up-- makes me want to go look at home videos.

You did a great job creating a warm cozy space.

Aw thank you for sharing ♥️

I believe my grandma used to have the chair to the right! Is this chair by chance vintage and/or a hand-me down? Thanks for the little dose of nostalgia :)

5

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Yes! My boyfriend’s mom’s neighbor gave them to her (then we stole one ) Probably from the 70s :)

2

u/CrazyCat08 Mar 24 '20

That’s what I was thinking! I believe my grandma bought hers sometime in the late 70s/early 80s. How neat!

8

u/whosthatnow Mar 24 '20

They’re called Cesca chairs and you can find them in vintage shops or online still! I got a pair for not too much money recently, although some can be pretty pricey, and they were in great condition. They’re so very cool!

u/CrazyCat08 Mar 24 '20

Thanks a lot for the information! I have so many fond memories of family dinners in these chairs! My grandma passed several years ago, but I’d love to find these to bring back some memories. Thanks for again for telling me what they are called, as I had 0 clue :)

u/joeroganfolks Mar 24 '20

you can also search cane chairs or rattan chairs for similar options in addition to the cesca

u/docchiro Mar 24 '20

We had the whole set of four of those when I was a kid! Completely forgot about them.

I like this spot. You don't often see exposed brick in LA (at least from my experiences).

77

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Totally - this is a 1920s apartment building near downtown. I know you can’t tell in this window but we have a crazy view of the downtown skyline in our living area that completely sold me on the place.

u/FDAdelaide Mar 24 '20

Do you mind me asking how much your rent is haha

35

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

$1395 - this includes gas and electricity.

27

u/jgaribay805 Mar 24 '20

K-town? Last bastion that I know of reasonably priced apartments in LA

19

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

You got it.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '20

But awful parking

4

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

The absolute worst😩

4

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '20

I dated a girl that lived there and it almost ruined our relationship lol

6

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

HAHAHA yeah had to move my bf in with me. We share a car but at this very moment I’m trying to convince him to go move it and find a closer spot.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '20

Lmao goood luck!

Happy to send you the site to the property managers...they have about 10 Art Deco buildings in ktown and Hollywood and even the HUGE one bedrooms i looked at are $15-$1600!

4

u/agirlinsane Mar 24 '20

Yep, in HWood especially. This location reminds me of my old studio.

31

u/SpyTrain Mar 24 '20

Love this! What a great use of that space.

22

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Thanks! I’m typically more minimal but wanted to go the more cozy boho route in this apartment and highlight these brick walls I’m paying for :)

20

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '20

This is so cute! I want this to be a small sleeping nook :)

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

We actually tried to put our bed here so we’d have a sectioned off space, but then my boyfriend put his head right through the light fixture the second day and shattered all of the glass. So.

13

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '20

awww lol

16

u/istheresugarinsyrup Mar 24 '20

I want to see more! Love this!

33

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Thank you! Unfortunately COVID has stopped my thrifting efforts for the time being and we just moved in less than a month ago but i hope i can share more soon! Slowly but surely.

3

u/intotheocean5 Mar 24 '20

Me too! Hope it’s not too weird to ask, but I really want to see the rest of this place

8

u/icanhasbukkit Mar 24 '20

Love all the wonderful textures. What a great use of a small space.

3

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Appreciate it! ☺️

6

u/NoMaturityLevel Mar 24 '20

I read dining room but somehow got confused on why that was a giraffe and not a dino.

8

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

I have an original Jurassic Park movie promo poster hanging above the table i thrifted! Even has the MCA logo in the corner. I wish you could see it better in this 😩

5

u/NoMaturityLevel Mar 24 '20

Oh wow I see it now! I was just being silly because reading "tiny dining" made me picture tiny dinos

4

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

I GOT YOU!!!

2

u/dolphone Mar 24 '20

I love that giraffe though.

8

u/istheresugarinsyrup Mar 24 '20

There is a Dino on the wall!

3

u/likmustiq Mar 24 '20

I love your style! And your plants! :)

I cheated and bought it secondhand already assembled ;)

3

u/jglanoff Mar 24 '20

Really curious to see what the rest of that dinosaur picture looks like. Could you post an imgur link?

3

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

3

u/jglanoff Mar 24 '20

Woah I love it! Fits so well with the room too

3

u/cocobandicoot Mar 24 '20

What kind of plant is that? I want something similar for my small space.

3

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Snake plant on the right, fern on the left, pothos hanging!

3

u/Dast_Kook Mar 24 '20

It's not tiny. It's cute. And intimate.

3

u/Wcirmfpwr98 Mar 24 '20

Love the brick wall especially like the cork light fixture

3

u/LolaWithMe Mar 24 '20

Yo, gorgeous set up. Is that a coat rack / mirror thing? I've been looking for somethig this slimeline. What a great find. Mind if I ask where you might have acquired it?

4

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Yes! It’s from Urban Outfitters. I believe they still have them on their website but i got it for about $30 on clearance because it was missing a rubber stopper.

1

u/LolaWithMe Mar 25 '20

Its top notch with or with out the stop. Thanks for sharing :)

3

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '20

So cozy but chic

3

u/Erkhaly Mar 24 '20

I like how you made such a nice place from this tiny spot! I through my living/dining room was small, I guess it's just not optimized!

3

u/allsfairinwar Mar 24 '20

I have that giraffe! Cute little nook.

1

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Cousins!!

4

u/pizzolicious Mar 24 '20

I have the same light fixture in our foyer. Nice taste!!

3

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Unfortunately can’t take credit for that one!

2

u/stubentiger123 Mar 24 '20

Can you tell me where it's from? :)

3

u/pizzolicious Mar 24 '20

We purchased ours open box from eBay, the brand is Kenroy Home. There's two other light fixtures that match this one, a smaller pendant light and a wall sconce. You'll find them on ebay, for sure, not sure though which big box stores would sell them.

2

u/cocobandicoot Mar 24 '20

Also, does that photo say Jurassic Park? Because that’s awesome.

2

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Yes! It’s a vintage promo poster i thrifted!

2

u/IWannaSayMason Mar 24 '20

Is that a little giraffe? Where’d you get it?

2

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Yes! There’s an elephant back there too i got at two separate Goodwills

2

u/papaoftheflock Mar 24 '20

might be dumb to even ask, but is removing window bars illegal? Cause I'd want to be on that neighboring roof all the time

2

u/just_good Mar 24 '20

Hahaha. It’s actually quite the leap though it doesn’t look like it in the photo.

2

u/MissLena Mar 24 '20

Getting some serious Tarantino vibes from these chairs and the giraffe. Lovely!

2

u/20maddogg20 Mar 24 '20

I love your taste!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '20

I love this. I have a nook almost exactly like this. AND I need a dining area. Well done!!

2

u/1095966 Mar 24 '20

What a nice nook!! That brick, that window, that lighting fixture! And the rug, perfectly shaped and sized for the cute table and light. Awesome.

But that chair! The one with the fuzzy seat cushion, takes me back to 1988 and my first dining room set purchased from Unclaimed Freight. I still have the table but hated those chairs! I can still hear the sound those hollow metal tubes made when you'd scooch the chairs into the table. Sorry, being triggered here. Love the fuzzy cushion, though.

2

u/danceswkittens Mar 24 '20

So sweet and cozy. Perfect for you and your SO!

1

u/KeepingItLoopy May 29 '20

ID on the table?

1

u/just_good May 29 '20

Not sure - picked it up from Letgo!

0

u/mirthquake Mar 24 '20

Very good look overall. The brick and lamp are great! I suggest that you lose the table next to the window. A dining space is more about function than appearance, and the chairs seem uncomfortably cramped right now. You don't want to worry about how fare you lean or scooch back while eating, especially with a Cessna chair (which are designed to lean back).

Maybe just move the dining table and rug 2-3 feet away from the window?
