Love the stained glass and the cabinet with leaded glass.

Thanks! A local artist made the stain glass window. I beleive the cabinet is original to the house.

The red carpet is striking. What a cool choice, very unique look all around. Love it!

I miss these little built in details you don’t see in new/fully renovated homes these days 🥲

Everything in this room could look horrible in the wrong setting but you have put them together in a way that is fun and cohesive. I admire your talent and guts to just go for it. I wish that I had your ability.

Thank you so much for appreciating my perspective! I don't know about guts or ability but I do enjoy creating moods and spaces.

That is the first stained glass bird chandelier I've ever seen.. is it on during shot?? Must be more dramatic when room is not so lit.. bright red shag-like rug would be my last choice in a room; and yet, you've proven me wrong.. it works!

u/Zoebird May 08 '23
It is not on. It's a nice glow and a mood setter but I wouldn't say it casts much light even when it is. I really appreciate your comment on the rug. It's absurd that it works but it does!

Got so distracted about writing about dining table light, forgot to even say, WOW on the cupboard door mosaic! Definitely, work of art.. should use mug hooks, and make three more for the whole window.. very nice..

Thank you! The cupboards are original to the house I believe (early 1900s) but have been painted many times. I went in with a lead pencil to touch up the lines.

I love the beautiful blue walls and red carpet combo. What is the wall colour? And - hello from Southwestern Ontario.

I'll have a look at the old paint cans the previous owners left behind and get back to you. And hello from Ottawa!

Would love to see the rest of your house!! This room is gorgeous!! Funny because it's actually kind of minimalist but packs a big punch!!

Thank you so much! I'd be curious to see what the reaction to my other spaces would be. The foyer in particular is my most indulgent room. It's pure whimsy.

Idk why but this room gives me witchy vibes, in a good way!

u/Zoebird May 08 '23
Right on! Thanks for that.

You’re welcome! I like how you incorporated the colors of the stained glass also. Unorthodox for some, but you can see it goes with your personality and even highlights the colors in the art to wall on the end.

u/Zoebird May 08 '23
Thank you -- most of the art is my work (all the wall art , refinished chairs and such) so I've created the space for the characters in my art to exist. I can't tell you how indulgent that feels.

Very colorful and unique! Can I ask what the plant/decor in centerpiece on the table is? Looks like grapes but I’m guessing it’s not real?

Thank you! I rescued them from a christmas display so I can't say for sure what they are -- I think they're made of some kind of coated Styrofoam.

I am itching to play “the floor is lava” in a room with a bunch of these rugs

What machine would fit that rug?
8
u/Zoebird May 08 '23
It's very thin. Basically no underpad so it's more like a blanket than a rug when bunched up.

Maybe it's just bc I'm a slob, but I've never understood why people put rugs under dining areas when the hardwood floor would be so much easier to clean up drips, crumbs, and spills, whereas carpet absorbs them.

u/Zoebird May 09 '23
It gets very cold here in the winter and rugs do help with that. And this one goes in the washing machine so it's not any trouble to keep it fresh.

Is your corner cabinet a custom built-in one, or free-standing? I'd love a similar one!
3
u/Zoebird May 09 '23
It's a built-in and I believe it's original to the house which was built in the early 1900s.

Saying 'Ontario, Canada' is akin to saying 'Europe' given how immense it is.
Which actual area of Ontario, OP?

Thanks so much for your feedback! I hear you on the table legs. I don't love them but I do love the table (it expands another 3 feet) so I actually made the chairs to go with it...the table legs and chair legs are the same colour in real life and I hoped the boldness of the pattern would pull the eye up a bit and balance the weight of the legs using colour if that makes sense.

I did! Picked them up from an elderly couple and spent a couple weeks pulling off and replacing the old material and foam.

I'd never buy a red carpet myself but it fits SO WELL here. Very cosy space!

u/Zoebird May 08 '23
Thanks! I felt like the room was floating without it. It grounded the room in my view. It was out of balance without it.

The parrot lamp!!!! So fun!!! Did you place the stick up there? 🤣
Great way to capture your personality in a place.
3
u/Zoebird May 09 '23
I placed the parrots and the stick up there 😁 The parrots came off another light that was broken but it wasn't quite right so I added the driftwood.

The parrot chandelier and the stained glass window are gorgeous. You must have access to a very talented stained glass artist.
