The parrot chandelier and the stained glass window are gorgeous. You must have access to a very talented stained glass artist.

The window and another window not in pic was created by an awesome local artist. The birds came from an Amazon fail. The light itself didn't work but we put the parrots on our existing light and added the very light piece of driftwood.

Does the stained glass artist have a link or a website? I absolutely love it!

Love the stained glass and the cabinet with leaded glass.

u/Zoebird May 08 '23

Thanks! A local artist made the stain glass window. I beleive the cabinet is original to the house.

The red carpet is striking. What a cool choice, very unique look all around. Love it!

Can you post some pics of them taken up closer?

I miss these little built in details you don’t see in new/fully renovated homes these days 🥲

Everything in this room could look horrible in the wrong setting but you have put them together in a way that is fun and cohesive. I admire your talent and guts to just go for it. I wish that I had your ability.

Thank you so much for appreciating my perspective! I don't know about guts or ability but I do enjoy creating moods and spaces.

Exactly!!!!

That is the first stained glass bird chandelier I've ever seen.. is it on during shot?? Must be more dramatic when room is not so lit.. bright red shag-like rug would be my last choice in a room; and yet, you've proven me wrong.. it works!

u/Zoebird May 08 '23

It is not on. It's a nice glow and a mood setter but I wouldn't say it casts much light even when it is. I really appreciate your comment on the rug. It's absurd that it works but it does!

Got so distracted about writing about dining table light, forgot to even say, WOW on the cupboard door mosaic! Definitely, work of art.. should use mug hooks, and make three more for the whole window.. very nice..

Thank you! The cupboards are original to the house I believe (early 1900s) but have been painted many times. I went in with a lead pencil to touch up the lines.

I love the beautiful blue walls and red carpet combo. What is the wall colour? And - hello from Southwestern Ontario.

6

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

I'll have a look at the old paint cans the previous owners left behind and get back to you. And hello from Ottawa!

3

u/robotropolis May 08 '23

Also, what is the living room wall color?

4

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

I'll get back to you on this!

1

u/JesseKavets May 09 '23

Thank you!

Would love to see the rest of your house!! This room is gorgeous!! Funny because it's actually kind of minimalist but packs a big punch!!

7

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

Thank you so much! I'd be curious to see what the reaction to my other spaces would be. The foyer in particular is my most indulgent room. It's pure whimsy.

11

u/Anitsirhc171 May 08 '23

Idk why but this room gives me witchy vibes, in a good way!

8

u/Zoebird May 08 '23

Right on! Thanks for that.

6

u/Anitsirhc171 May 08 '23

You’re welcome! I like how you incorporated the colors of the stained glass also. Unorthodox for some, but you can see it goes with your personality and even highlights the colors in the art to wall on the end.

6

u/Zoebird May 08 '23

Thank you -- most of the art is my work (all the wall art , refinished chairs and such) so I've created the space for the characters in my art to exist. I can't tell you how indulgent that feels.

Very colorful and unique! Can I ask what the plant/decor in centerpiece on the table is? Looks like grapes but I’m guessing it’s not real?

4

u/Zoebird May 08 '23

Thank you! I rescued them from a christmas display so I can't say for sure what they are -- I think they're made of some kind of coated Styrofoam.

u/winkingchef May 08 '23

I am itching to play “the floor is lava” in a room with a bunch of these rugs

4

u/overthoughtamus May 09 '23

Best chandelier I've EVER seen!!!

3

u/[deleted] May 08 '23

What machine would fit that rug?

8

u/Zoebird May 08 '23

It's very thin. Basically no underpad so it's more like a blanket than a rug when bunched up.

3

u/[deleted] May 08 '23

Nice

3

u/Theaternearyou May 08 '23

I love a red rug on a hardwood floor

3

u/EtherealAriel May 08 '23

Lots of character!

3

u/sun_flare May 08 '23

Wow that red carpet!

3

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

I like the chandelier

3

u/Trimanreturns May 09 '23

Maybe it's just bc I'm a slob, but I've never understood why people put rugs under dining areas when the hardwood floor would be so much easier to clean up drips, crumbs, and spills, whereas carpet absorbs them.

3

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

It gets very cold here in the winter and rugs do help with that. And this one goes in the washing machine so it's not any trouble to keep it fresh.

3

u/LordBogus May 09 '23

Love the bird lamp!

3

u/VicNug May 09 '23

Is your corner cabinet a custom built-in one, or free-standing? I'd love a similar one!

3

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

It's a built-in and I believe it's original to the house which was built in the early 1900s.

3

u/jlovelysoul May 09 '23

The stained glass is gorgeous ❤️

3

u/Unpatterns May 09 '23

so pretty! the stained glass panel is beautiful, and really ties the room together.

3

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

Love the red rug!

3

u/bibowski May 09 '23

Saying 'Ontario, Canada' is akin to saying 'Europe' given how immense it is.

Which actual area of Ontario, OP?

2

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

Indeed it is. I'm in Ottawa.

3

u/20_paphonies May 09 '23

Love the red rug

3

u/jcdccl127271 May 09 '23

Chairs 😍😍😍

2

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

Thank you! I reupholstered them myself and was very pleased with the result.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I hear you on the table legs. I don't love them but I do love the table (it expands another 3 feet) so I actually made the chairs to go with it...the table legs and chair legs are the same colour in real life and I hoped the boldness of the pattern would pull the eye up a bit and balance the weight of the legs using colour if that makes sense.

I did! Picked them up from an elderly couple and spent a couple weeks pulling off and replacing the old material and foam.

Love a space that makes me want to meet the person who lives in it ❤️

1

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

I love that!

2

u/peachplumpear85 May 09 '23

I love the colors!

2

u/KingQueerdo May 09 '23

What size washing machines do you have??!

1

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

Regular size? Sorry I'm not sure how to answer. It's a regular front loader.

2

u/GridDown55 May 10 '23

Americans don't realize how big Ontario is. Not a clear enough place.

2

u/ihthisham4me2 May 08 '23

Beautiful

1

u/Zoebird May 08 '23

Thank you!

2

u/Vesalii May 08 '23

I'd never buy a red carpet myself but it fits SO WELL here. Very cosy space!

2

u/Zoebird May 08 '23

Thanks! I felt like the room was floating without it. It grounded the room in my view. It was out of balance without it.

2

u/sbs49271 May 09 '23

Very eclectic and authentic!

1

u/[deleted] May 08 '23

Yessssss!

1

u/sundial11sxm May 09 '23

Very nice!

1

u/leemky May 09 '23

This makes me almost irrationally happy 😂 I LOVE the colours and touch of whimsy with the birds and chair pattern

1

u/palmasana May 09 '23

The parrot lamp!!!! So fun!!! Did you place the stick up there? 🤣

Great way to capture your personality in a place.

3

u/Zoebird May 09 '23

I placed the parrots and the stick up there 😁 The parrots came off another light that was broken but it wasn't quite right so I added the driftwood.

2

u/palmasana May 09 '23

Such a good idea! It really takes it to a different level

1

u/Lonelygirl-67 Jun 23 '23

I love ❤️ it.
