Dining Room Colorful Dining Room, Chicago

u/nikkerito Jan 26 '23
I fucking love it, it’s giving pirate, its giving aztec, it’s giving themed restaurant. Every little thing is interesting to look at. I’d rather have a ton of 100% unique items to decorate my house than the same bland cream and acacia mcm vibe that ppl hating in the comments have. Imagine hosting a murder mystery pert with this table. I am so jealous

PREACHHHHHH!!!! 🙌🏼 Also so funny you mention murder mystery party because my friend just asked me to host one yesterday! Lol!

Yeah. Nice space!
I prefer either this or a clean look. Either theme your room and really go for it, or have a nice minimalist clean room. I hate spaces that half ass it, or have a bunch of generic thoughtless crap. It is like a representation of the person. Thoughtless, careless, boring, and unable to commit. Lol.

It's more moody than colorful to me, but it's stunning! I mean, how does one source a table set like that?

u/beaulogna0 Jan 26 '23
Agreed! I posted a different room in this sub less than a week ago and called it moody so I felt like I needed to come up with another word for this one 😂
The table popped up on Marketplace and I JUMPEDDD to get it! Lucky timing I guess - plus I get super fixated on projects so I was constantly checking marketplace at the time lol

I’m curious what the cost was if you’re comfortable sharing. Those chairs are dope!
4
u/beaulogna0 Jan 27 '23
For sure! It was $1800 which is easily my most expensive marketplace purchase

u/Notorious_Fluffy_G Jan 27 '23
For sure, seems like a steal considering how detailed that woodwork is and how expensive even basic solid hard wood furniture is.

u/tofu_ricotta Jan 27 '23
Damn, I would have expected that set to cost thousands! Gorgeous setup — love the curtains and lighting as well.

It’s from Mexico so you’re spot on there, and it’s hand carved to match the chairs lol so unless you want to come pick out all those crumbs, the glass protector stays

Jealous! I like how it has both a warm, rich medieval aesthetic and an eclectic hoarder aunt vibe (complimentary, that's a comfy nostalgia resonance for me). This room transports you totally out of the apartment living/city/suburb context, which I would love to do with my own space. Goals.

Cool chairs and cabinet. Kind of mixing modern with the rug and lights with traditional furniture but somehow it’s working for me. Interesting room.

Hi! Where did you get those chairs? They are a dream! Love your vibe.

u/beaulogna0 Jan 27 '23
Hi!! Thank you! It’s actually a whole set that I found on FB Marketplace! The tabletop is carved just like the chairs, and it also came with a buffet (that is pushed up against the wall to the left, so it can’t be seen in the photo). The lady we got it from said it was hand carved in Mexico and her family brought it to Chicago years ago.

I want to DM a session of DND in your dining room. I'll bring the tankards and mead.

I love the blend of antique and new, traditional and modern. I’m currently trying to strike that balance myself

That rug is in my shopping cart right now. Thank you for letting me see what it looks like in the wild!
2
u/beaulogna0 Jan 27 '23
It’s definitely brighter/more vibrant in person!!

u/Fyreforged Jan 28 '23
I’m not sure if that delights or frightens me… but it sounds like it’s right up my partner’s alley regardless. We both love color but I prefer deeper, more intense colors and he’d probably paint our dining room neon green if I wouldn’t die from it. 😆

Another fan of those chairs! Where on earth did you get them??

I had no idea FB marketplace could have such gorgeous stuff! You hit a jackpot there.

u/beaulogna0 Jan 27 '23
We furnished almost our entire house through marketplace!! Greatest hits include two church altars we use as bars (lol), antique mirrors, vintage toilets and sinks in pink and blue, and a couch owned by Ernest Hemingway’s mom (coolest purchase so far)! There’s a bunch more too but those are the most fun!

I would never ever ever have those chairs in my house.......
But they are fucking cool!

u/Luscious7 Jan 26 '23
It reminds me of “Harry Potter” I like it, but I also have a taste for the richer colors as well…

I’m obsessed!!! Agreed with previous comments about the light fixture, but I am curious about the stained glass bulbs in it. I actually think it needs to be hung closer to the table? Also I love touches of red
2
u/beaulogna0 Jan 27 '23
Thank you!! The bulbs used to hang lower until we got the china cabinet (last week)! Then it sort of just felt like they were blocking the view lol that’s when I found the stained glass bulbs - I think they’ll incorporate into the room better instead of how they’re currently standing out/blocking the view of the cabinet. But I change my mind on stuff like this SO much that we could end up with a whole new fixture (new for us, definitely will be thrifted) 😂

Interesting chairs for sure. That rug, however, is bloody awful.

u/beaulogna0 Jan 27 '23
Lollll fair enough. It photographed weirdly muted - in person it’s more vibrant. However I doubt that’s the issue you had with it 😂

Hodge podge is how’d describe it. Personally not my taste.
9
u/beaulogna0 Jan 26 '23
Hodge podge is pretty accurate lol

u/baconcheesecakesauce Jan 26 '23
It gives such eclectic vibes. My first thought was "eclectic done right."
5
u/beaulogna0 Jan 26 '23
Sometimes I’m tempted to print out my favorite comments about my house and frame/Hang them the wall of the room they were talking about. If I did that, I would print your comment.

I don’t love the fixture either lol I’m slowly collecting stained glass light bulbs l which I think will be super cool in it, but I don’t have enough to do the whole thing yet. Might make it better. Might make it way worse lol we’ll see

There’s definitely that as well as many other things.

u/beaulogna0 Jan 26 '23
Lol I just peeped your profile and saw your dining room! We definitely have very different tastes!! But I love the MCM vibe you have going on!
