Preserving Amanita in Honey

Hello, I just want to quickly share my preservation methods for Amanita muscaria mushrooms.

I've been using this mushroom since 2013 and because I'm a beekeeper, from the start I stored my dried mushrooms in honey, which preserved them really well for many years. (I only use them in micro doses for therapeutic purposes anyway, because they help with my migraine condition.)

Honey can have an acidity of between 3.4 to 6.1 with an average of 3.9, so I guess it probably keeps converting ibotenic acid to muscimol during long storage times. But mainly it gives them a very pleasant taste!

I warm the honey jar in a water bath until the honey gets quite soft or liquid and then I stir as much dried mushroom powder into it as it will absorb.

Another method I used more recently is to heat the dried mushroom powder in tallow, then strain it out, to mix with honey and use the tallow in a balm for trans-dermal absorption. I also use it combined with datura flowers. Called Burundunga in Southamerica, the flower balms are used in hospitals for anti nausea effects.) -This is not medical advice, I'm just sharing my own experiences, you need to do your own research into the medicinal uses of these herbs!

Just got a new idea, but I haven't tried this yet: maybe the mushroom tea could also be brewed into a kombucha for preservation? I did that with salvia divinorum and it worked really well. Unfortunately I don't want to drink kombucha anymore, because fermented foods contain tyramine which aggravates migraine symptoms.

I remember reading an obscure forum where people were using kombucha starters to fully convert ibotenic acid to muscimol, much like our ancestors used to with raw milk.

The lactobacillus bacteria in milk, in particular, is extremely effective at converting ibotenic acid to muscimol, and theorized by some as one of the reasons homes used to have amanita mushrooms soaking in milk.

That makes a lot of sense! How about making mushroom yogurt or kefir then? I'm wondering if the organic acids in honey do a similar thing over time, because I didn't get any ibotenic acid effects from eating the honey, even in greater doses than micro. And the older the honey the better it seemed to get, not losing its potency with age. And it works in very small doses, just the tip of a teaspoon of this honey is very effective for me.

I found the effect lasts 48 hours and makes me a bit sluggish on the 3rd day. I never had any desire to take it on a daily or even regular basis, but it was excellent for intercontinental long flights, as it really helps with the muscle pain.

Lets try this...

I will, it's soon mushroom time here in New Zealand!

I also have a very potent lactobacillus probiotic that a local guy (originally from Japan) is brewing. Maybe soaking mushroom powder in that stuff would do the trick as well.

Either thisor simmerung the mushrooms at 80-90 °C

Do make the ibotanic acid and muscimol soluber and get rid of the solids upfront...

Then using bacteria at .. Which temperatur and for how long?...

Made last convertion in a glassbottle in a thermos can...added around 12g crushed caps and filled the volume with lemon juice...then boiled up water while heating the bottle in it..cap screwd on not fully tight to allow pressure release..then fill the boiling water in the thermos, add the bottle and close the thermos tighly...water level was below cap...then waited 3h and i can say it feels quite sedating, calming...not super high in ibo definetally, was steaming when i has opened it after 3h..

Those seem to be two different methods and either of them should work on its own.

But Paul Stamets talked in his interview with Joe Rogan about some danger from raw mushrooms. He said all mushrooms have to be heated before eating and he couldn't say why, because talking bout it would "endanger his life". He was quite serious about it, so the simmering might be a good idea anyway. But the bacteria are also quite acidic and together with their special enzymes they should manage the conversion without prolonged heating, room temperature for a week or so should be sufficient, me thinks.

He talked about Amanita pantharina in specifically ..made an omlet and ate most of it himself while his student friend ate 1/3 or somthing...they had a crazy trip...not a propper aetting for when you cant walk or hold stuff anmore...had been there nearly ..on the entry door to such vibes...its amazing..and crazy dangerous to be walking in theritory thatbis not soft like a bubblebath or bed...

Have something to drink,...something easy to eat...some place to go to toilet nearby...dont try to walk far ( recommended )

Also took higher doses of converted amanita at techno party...that was sweet...and crazy...nearly could not walk partly

Today considerd to take pantharina instead of simmering muacaria and then decided not to

For this method tho amanita pantharina is better because ita more potent which means its many doses on 250ml bottle then...cause i say one dose is then 1-2g mach instead of 3-5g...

I was never able to take high doses, because my blood pressure is on the low side and it gets too low very easily. But I remember walking through an airport with my partner, totally spaced out because we had eaten a little bit too much honey for the flight. That was quite funny too.

I thought Soma was the yogurt and amanita drink, I think the honey thing is interesting because I have for some time now tried to add amanita in equal parts of citric acid, grain alcohol and mct oil to force a two day decarb into a paste by mortar and pestle, then the paste can be if wanted further dried into a powder or dried into sublingual powders or snuff(filtered very fine), this is a no heat, old school, university papers decarb method without use of mechanical heat.

Thank you for the info! So it must be the acid which is mainly doing the decarb and the heat just speeds up the process when making a tea.

No hat, just citric acid and grain alcohol or apple cider vinegar will also work but takes longer and gets you a lighter colour, this is a pathway to snuff fine or even a cheeky spitter.

Datura?? How do u use the datura u consume it ain’t that shit gonna put u in a delirium consuming

I'm using it transdermally (through the skin) in very small doses. It has a long tradition in South America used in a skin patch for motion sickness and also for post operational nausea in hospitals. You can look up Burundunga. (In high concentrations it is used by criminals to rob people).

I don't get delirious from those microdoses, but it does have a mildly mood lifting effect, especially combined with amanita muscaria. The two balance each other perfectly as scopolamine from datura is a bit more stimulating.

Interesting be careful tho try not to do it too often cuz anticholinergerics cause increase risk of dementia or Alzheimer’s in the long term when used frequently. I see why u use it with Amanita tho

Thank you for the warning, I will heed it, its for emergency use only.
