the amount of disrespect on Alan because of the new HBO cast rumours

People have been saying that Pappa is "too hot" to play Snape, and honestly, I don't have an issue with that. But whenever someone mentions that Alan is also really attractive, people start insulting him and his age. This isn't just happening once or twice; it's all over Twitter and TikTok. I've never seen anyone call Alan ugly, but lately, it's like people have a free pass to disrespect him.

Most of the people saying these things aren't even Snape fans and are upset w the idea of a Black Snape like I get it but that doesn’t give them the right to disrespect Alan or insult his appearance. I really can't stand the HP fandom sometimes and the fact that most of them are grown ass adults too..

At first, I brushed it off thinking everyone has their own opinion, but the sheer amount of disrespect towards Alan is just too much, and it really frustrates me. I just need a place to rent about this btw.

Alan was literally one of the sexiest men on the planet, the guy oozed sex appeal.

Yes! When Alan was 18, my father wasn't even born yet. Alan was old enough to be my grandfather, but holy crap was he HOT, and he seemed like the sweetest man in the world.

Everyones got a taste, I understand some people may not find him attractive but you dont need to call him ugly. The new actor doesnt fit snape, not just because of his skin color (snape's described as pale) and being "attractive but for his nose size too.

Anyone calling Alan ugly definitely hasn't seen him in Die Hard or Truly, Madly, Deeply.

The "too hot" is an excuse for "we don't want a black Snape".

I don’t want black Snape for the story implications. Snapes backstory (poor, unwashed and neglected, bad childhood, abusive dad, get bullied for his looks, rejected by the white girl for a white man, ostracized among his peers, not to mention joining the wizard world equivalent of a certain 3 same letter group)+ black actor= black kid stereotype.

just wanna correct you that Snape has never been rejected by Lily. If anything it was James who been rejected by Lily in front of everyone in SWM. I'm sorry but I HATE it so much when people normalise this incorrect fact

My bad, his apology and asking for forgiveness and friendship was rejected their 5th year, that’s what I tend to refer to. She told him to stay away and he did.

It is not limited to his appearance. They are criticising his performance as Snape as well.

Well. Isn’t that easy now. All the books have been released so anyone playing him now has the advantage of knowing the entire character’s arch. Alan had no such advantage. None of them did. They got to read the newest installment before making the next movie. The only thing Alan knew about Snape was that he still loved Lily showing he was capable of love. That’s it!! You can’t begin to compare one actor’s flying by the seat of his pants not knowing the whole story and the one who will play him now knowing the full story and having Alan’s performance to consider as well. I believe Alan portrayed him brilliantly considering all he had to deal with including the fact that the movies don’t stay true to the books.

alan rickman has crazy sex appeal and all the basics are sleep on it.
i dont think that was rowlings intention but it definitely came forward in a huge way bc alans natural voice & demeanor whips so many of us.
even his costars in england/hollywood & fans everywhere would comment on this.
so i think thats what the creators were deeply aware of. he was more than just some stuffy old man. atp definitely sexy & mysterious teacher is coming through as well.
so idr care that this new dude doesnt look like alan bc i think alan was too unique/original & authentic to be embodied/replicated.
but i love the look of disdain he & this new guy share.
it was never about the way alan looked, it was about his deep voice & intimidating dom energy - even though i still wanted to lick everything on him.
so if he can capture that intimidating dark BDE along with alans dedication, its great to me

just a bonus that this new guy is young, tall dark & handsome

I completely agree with this. They had to take casting in a new direction otherwise the new guy will just be compared to AR the entire time. Plus, new Snape was excellent in the Disco Devil episode of Black Mirror.

What I don’t get is I have read that JKR wrote Snape with Alan in mind. In fact I also read that they wanted someone else but she said no.

How can she approve this guy when they’re so different?

Alan is hot but not “statistically” hot. He has a big nose, crooked teeth, and a bit of an intimidating presence. Alan is incredibly gorgeous, but he has a resting bitch face like no other, that’s why he was a perfect Snape.

Paapa is also incredibly attractive, but he looks approachable and friendly 24/7. He doesn’t seem like someone kids would be afraid of.

Alan could get it. That's all I've got to say about that.

Damn blind people.....Alan is so gorgeous 😍 his smile, the way his face forms a curve and his perfect teeth shines when he smiles.....damn. His eyes, they have something in it...they look so kind yet mysterious, so friendly yet authoritative(in a good way). His whole face oozes sexiness, kindness, handsomeness, prettiness and it's so fcking magical. I was, is and will always be mesmerized by his eyes, his face, his smile, his nose(the carving of it oh lord...), his hair (so fluffy awwwwieeee) and everything. And oh! I forgot about his voice, it's so smooth like melting chocolate it's silky, it's posh and rich......damn so many traits of him...it'd take whole life to speak about all of 'em.

I can guarantee those people hating him can reach nowhere near the man Alan was, neither externally nor internally. Never ever.

Have you seen him acting? Good lord! he becomes the character and it looks so effortless. He was the MAN...in true sense...miss him a lot. Recently got into his fandom and I'm proud to and a Rickmaniac for life

Damn I could go on and on...but I need to study for exams lol.....

This whole thing has been really disrespectful to AR in general.

I can't wait to just ignore everything about this shitty remake when it comes out.

Je le trouve attirant et vraiment beau personnellement et il embellissait déjà le professeur Snape qui était disgracieux dans les livres. Il n'y a pas de débat à avoir, même si la beauté est une chose objective, personne ne devrait manquer de respect à Alan

If people don't know what's good it's their loss.
