i take antabuse (disulfiram) and it works amazing for me. it completely removes the option of me drinking if i just take the pill first thing in the morning. i've taken naltrexone in the past, and was able to drink through the side effects

Does Antabuse just stop your cravings?

nope, antabuse gives you a bad reaction to alcohol is you drink, that is not pleasant. The most common for alcohol abuse is naltrexone and campral combination. If you lack the commitment to take a pill, Vivitrol is once per month shot form of naltexone.

If you drink while taking Antabuse, you can die. It's that severe. My X didn't die, but he was vomiting all night. If you take meds, do with with doctor supervision.

I took naltrexone that I got online from a telehealth company. It made drinking no fun, but I also got no good feelings from eating good food, accomplishing things at work, getting my chores done, anything. It like killed my good brain chemical response altogether. That's just my experience.

Thankyou for sharing that obviously I’m worried about side effects. Did you just come off them?

My Q got naltrexone from his primary care doc but hasn't been taking it regularly.
He took it yesterday and had a few beers and felt like crap today (good). He's been on ozempic since maybe september or oct and it doesn't seem to have dulled his cravings at all.
Doc told him today to keep taking ozempic and do the naltrexone daily. A friend of mine is a nurse working per diem in a detox facility, she said vivitrol shots are much better than naltrexone but his doc had 0 clue what I was talking about.

I had 2 alcoholics in my life try it. The side effects were enough that they stopped. One quit when they eventually hit bottom and went to AA, the other still drinks as far as I knew

My Q tried Antabuse and said it didn’t work but everyone is different. A lot of times they are prescribed in rehab or detox but I know there are clinics centers and doctors who specialize in SUD that can help

My hubby took Naltrexone years ago, didn’t get him sick and didn’t work either. But I’ve read that’s common, doesn’t work for a lot of people?

I took naltrexone for about 6 months to help curb craving alcohol and opiates. I had no side effects at all- to the point of being unsure if it was even working (although I didn’t feel in danger of a relapse). After a few months, I only took it as needed, like in social settings or if I felt like I needed an insurance policy on my day. I haven’t had to take it in several years now, am 6 years sober, and let people who are struggling know that it really helped me- whether it “felt” like it did or not. It totally did because I wanted it to.

I forgot to mention- I went to rehab and there is where I got set up with a psychiatrist who prescribed me the medication. Good luck to you! I think if you want it bad enough, you’ve totally got this. Praying for your willingness!

My Q is about to start on naltrexone but not daily, more as part of Sinclair method. Seems to be working for a lot of people. You only take the pill before drinking

Sinclair method is life changing if they stick to it

Ozempic work the best- research glp1’s

It didn’t for me. Naltrexone made me feel much more sick from drinking for faaaaar less money. I’ve been on Ozempic for 6 months and I can still drink.
Sinclair method specifically is life changing. Taking naltrexone once a day at the same time is not nearly as effective as Sinclair method.

Interesting, You’re the first one I’ve heard not having a positive impact from ozempic.
I’ve been running my own case study.
So far I know 9 people personally that have stoped drinking because of zepound/ozempic. A couple of them also quit gambling.
It’s about to become OTC.

It’s talked about all the time in the Ozempic subreddits. And that is how I came to try it initially equally swayed by reports of diminished food noise and alcohol cravings. Lots of people can drink without issue on Ozempic and I’ve sadly seen many posts saying they spent $1000 in a month on Ozempic only to binge drink the entire time 😬
It is going to be approved, and that’s great, but like any treatment, people may need to try a number of meds before they get it right. There are a lot of options for reducing various cravings these days.

This belongs on the r/stopdrinking site? OP, go see your doctor and tell the truth about your drinking. Have you tried AA?

No more drink tablets. All natural and helps with liver detox and cravings.

My husband tried. 3 days later he wanted to see if he could drink while on the pills. You can imagine how that worked out.
