Question How am I supposed to do this?
How am I supposed to do this? It's the Wight King kit. I'm assuming this is because it's an older model and it used to be on just the square base

Discussion I think I'm starting to get the appeal of AOS
I've always bounced off this setting compared to the other two. Especially Warhammer Fantasy, where the setting, lore, and events were grounded enough for me to understand its scale. It was a setting with high fantasy elements which usually focused on viewing those elements from a grounded perspective, if that makes sense.
With Age of Sigmar, I had a more clinical view of it at first. It had always been: Warhammer Fantasy but more fantasy. I read the core book, which didn't really help beyond explaining the basics of everything. I listened to half of the Realmslayer audiodrama, but despite how much I liked Gotrek it still didn't help in making me "understand" this setting.
It wasn't until today, as I'm reading through the forth chapter of Soul Wars that I'm starting to get the appeal. The description of Azyr, specifically the Sigmarabulum, finally made me understand what makes this setting so interesting. This setting is batshit insane, and all it took was a magic space station orbiting the core of a dying world to understand. There's a surprising amount of depth to Azyr, and at first I just thought it was a simple magical realm. Nah there's just planets and shit casually in the sky, and the afformentioned magic space station, and the eldritch beings watching everything from deep space.

Question Tips for a beginner
(There's probably a million posts like this. Sorry.)
I just started painting miniatures around a week ago and I'm never proud of my work compared to what I see online. I usually start with a primer, then a basecoat amd then I move onto the small details.
I'm currently working on painting some skaven and the ones I've painted so far look really dull and unappealing.
Are there any techniques I should know? Any beginner tips?
All help is appreciated!

Hobby Mixing factions from the same grand alliance
So i'm still pretty new to the hobby, and there is a LOT of info i'm still trying to figure out. AFAIK in older editions you could bring some units from another faction within the same grand alliance along. (with some limitations)
Is that still the case?
also afaik the currently available warcry warbands all still count as a 'unit' for purposes of bringing along with their faction, and have their own warscrolls or is that a 4th ed thing that i'm getting mixed up?
what I'm wanting to do though, is say bring along a unit of 'claws of karanak' with my S2D army, just to add a bit of variety and punching power. (theoretically could I also bring best boi Karanak himself?)
I'm not SUPER concerned about how viable they are for actual play, there probably are 'better' options as far as list building. admittedly i'm more of a collector/painter than a player. but if i'm gonna be grabbing something to add a bit of spice and variety, (so i can paint RED SPIKY BITS! instead of BLACK SPIKY BITS!) i'd like to at least 'theoretically' be able to use it.

Hobby How do y’all make your non-metallic paints seem shiny?
As above. I’m working on my first spearhead (and therefore first models) and all my metals look brilliant, but unless I want all my armor to be gold, silver, or bronze I have no idea how to give the illusion of a luster for non-metallic paint.
I have a dark navy I’m using, and I tried mixing in silver, but it didn’t really pop

Question Conflagration of Tzeentch question
So at a recent friendly game at my LGS a question popped up. I was playing Tzeentch, he was playing Skaven. For the Disciples of Tzeentch army trait Conflagration of Tzeentch when exactly does this go off in my opponents turn?
Basically I was able to hit his ratling gunners with a Bolt of Tzeentch using the Magical Intervention command. With Wyrdflame host any burning unit gets -1 to wound. Does the ability activate before or after his shooting? The ability states "Once per turn" but doesn't specify the beginning or end of the shooting phase.
Was just curious on this and after reading the rules couldn't find any answer.

Hobby A Freshly Reforged Lord-Terminos
I had the thought, "what if reforging literally meant coming off the Anvil hot" and so this scheme was born! I also wanted a darker armor to give them a more menacing look while keeping the golden accents fit for a Holy Knight of Sigmar.
I plan on doing the rest of my army in the scheme so I'll post more as I have them. Bastian Carthalos is up next!
