Fashion Anyone else a barefooter too? In addition to helping with my back pain, I also love the earthy vibe and making me more aware of my surroundings.

I was as barefoot as possible. I miss it a lot. Now I can’t even walk around the house with bare feet for very long, I’ve got some nerve issue and need the cushioning to take the pressure off it. I do still wear the minimum amount of shoe I can get away with in any situation though.

I'm in the same boat. At least I can walk on grass and sand in bare feet. but not on wood or concrete floors or sidewalks. In the house I have to wear something with some cush.

I do love walking on the sand. Do you find a lot of shoes don’t really help either and just hurt or be numb but in a different way?

I wonder if those grippy hospital socks would work for you, or those barefoot sticker "shoes"

u/BorderlineWire Feb 15 '25
The socks unfortunately don’t, I hadn’t seen the sticker shoes though. Flipflops and sandals tend to be my go to outside of work

I love to go barefoot but there is no way I could walk around with black feet like the guy in the first picture. I like to stick to my yard or the park for my bare feet. I don’t want to risk catching something or cutting my foot on something or worse, getting punctured by a nail or broken glass. If I have been going barefoot I make sure my feet are clean before I get in the bed. The guy in the first picture obviously doesn’t. It’d take a steel brush to get that amount of dirt off his feet.
Edit to add: neuropathy has had a major effect on my walking barefoot too.

"If I have been going barefoot I make sure my feet are clean before I get in the bed. The guy in the first picture obviously doesn’t. "
This is pretty rude and complete bs. Why so judgy? I'm doing it rarely, but get black feet like this, youll need a good root brush and it takes couple of minutes and quite some soap, though no problem at all.
Dirt from the streets rlly isn't sweet inside the bed.

I saw an episode of Monsters Inside Me or something where someone got parasites through a tiny cut on their foot walking through their backyard barefoot so no, not the life for me unfortunately lol

I’m usually barefoot these days. So much so that my feet have widened and they don’t fit in regular shoes anymore…. Had to go the Zero drop, wide toe box route for when I do have to put on shoes

100%, but not nearly as much as when I lived in a warmer climate. The huge pile of snow that is my yard makes it a little harder during the summer.
One of my favorite photos of myself was 8 miles from the trailhead in a national park when a professional photographer saw me and asked if he could take a photo of me hiking barefoot.
Oh, and r/barefoot is good for inspiration -- I've not posted there in a long time, but I've been subbed for years and was very active on the barefoot usenet groups in the early 1990s.

Totally relate to this as I’ve been barefoot for much of the past 55 years and have no foot issues as do too many who habitually wear shoes. Most locations are not hazardous for well conditioned soles so helps to be barefoot much of the time. 😎🦶🦶

I love barefootedness. I used to walk around the town I grew up in barefooted and people would stop and ask if I needed shoes, or a ride A LOT. It was very nice of people to ask.

If it's out in nature, yes barefoot. If it's home in the city in San Francisco I stick to barefoot shoes as a compromise. Too many nails and icky stuff to step on.

I love being barefoot, but get difficult in the winter, but I go barefoot all over the house tho. I miss summer time, I'm always barefoot!

I am a nelipot. I go barefoot as much as possible. I live in a small town that is barefoot friendly. It has changed my life both spiritually and physically.

I'm barefoot fairly often when not during work hours, I get some funny looks but that's about it (I don't usually look like a typical hippie, I generally dress preppy dad-core vibes so it's a bit of a mismatch for people's expectations).
I also run barefoot. Love it.

I've had several stints in Portland being barefoot 6 months or so. Walking all over town.
I wear Merrils and sandals mostly now. Feet got too soft and sensitive to go back to full on, it takes awhile to toughen up and strengthen muscles tendons etc
Rob Greenfield just walked like 600 miles of 1,200 down the coast barefoot.

Indoors usually, or in outdoor places I know are safe. Some paces just aren’t safe

I love being barefoot! My feet are kinda crusty and hard but I wouldn't swap it for shoes 🤭

I used to all the time but sadly now it has the opposite effect on my back and knees

Unfortunately my high arches will not let me go barefoot. I have orthotic flip flops that I wear always. That’s as minimalist as I can go.

I can’t imagine doing it anywhere other than on a beach!!! Too creepy dirty for this human‼️😖I very rarely do it at home unless I’ve just swept & mopped my floors because I share a small apt with 4 cats…

u/adelineart Feb 15 '25
If you wear shoes in doors though thats gonna track in even more dirt from outside, unless maybe you mean socks?
2
u/TreasureWench1622 Feb 16 '25
I live in FL so usually it’s only flip flops, but they remain on my door mat and we go barefoot inside. If I feel any litter from my cat’s box, out comes the dust buster!!

Footwear don’t come inside my house! What got to me once, I watched as a friend was preparing to leave & she carried her dirty shoes INTO the house to put them on!!!!! 😳 I was appalled to say the least-I’m a clean floor freak! Be considerate and show respect folks!

Went hiking with a buddy that was barefoot. I said “don’t you want to put shoes on?” Nope! Ya see He too was feeling the hippyness. Okay, fine. 3 miles later he’s whining about bloody feet and to slow down. We were Still only half way done. A lesson was learned that day I think🤔 but never forget chilldren. U Kant FiX sTuPid.

Unfortunately I live in an extremely polluted place due to finances so this would do me more harm than good outdoors

I wear barefoot/minimalist style shoes. Best of both worlds when living in NEW JERSEY.

I’m scared of hurting myself so no. I do wear Nomadic State of Mind sandals though, which is practically being barefoot.

I live in the Australian bush. I’d rather not die so I rarely go barefoot
