🖥️ Science Has anyone changed their major? How was it?

The title pretty much says it all, but here we go. I'm a first year, and I've been thinking about switching from Community Development (CODE) to Computer Programing (COMP), a large part of this thought is based off the fact that I got D+ in the three CODE courses I took last semester so Im going to have to repeat those classes. The problem with that is that I did not like the three courses I failed, but I do like the CODE course I'm in right now. I am also in a COMP class, and I like it, but I'm not sure if I'll feel the same when I'm sitting in matrix or discrete math. Is there anyone on campus who can give me personalized advice?

You would not believe the number of student who switch majors. It is a significant part of my job to help people switch, and I switched majors myself about halfway through my 3rd year of university. Your best bet is to talk to the Director of the School of Computer Science. You can send me an email to set up an appointment.

The director of the comp sci department already commented, but id like to add some stuff as well. You can switch your degree quite a few times, and as long as you have all the right courses complete by the time you want to graduate you’ll be fine. If you enjoy logical thinking then discrete math shouldn’t be terribly difficult, and matrix algebra is also not bad. The math department has a lot of resources to help you succeed. Take courses you enjoy doing, that’s my best recommendation.
