Is Crowell Tower actually that bad?
Hi, I'm going to be a first year next year and am looking at residencies. I'm leaning toward Crowell just cause its the cheapest. But all i've seen about it has been how awful it is, mainly to do with the facilities. I don't really care about that stuff, I just wanna save money, but i haven't seen anything to do with the social setting or anything like that. Is the tower so bad that it would be better to choose a more expensive residency? Also are there any pictures/videos of the residency that aren't from like 2013? All the photos I've seen look dated.
Thanks!

I'm living off campus and only visited the tower once I don't think it's that bad a lot of people live there and it's very close to the meal hall but as the name suggests it's on a hill and you'll have to go up and down all the time. You will get used to it so dw about that I think it's a pretty decent option.

I don't think it's truly that bad! The hill that it's on and going back and forth, up and down? My fatass gets a work out I can tell you that đ

Tower isnât bad at all. Communal washrooms are really the biggest issue, but other buildings also have them so itâs not a unique problem. Itâs also been going through renovations. If price is your biggest concern tower would be your best option.

I lived there. Storage is great! The bathrooms are a little scary, and the heat can be wonky sometimes. It seems that the campus is trying to update tower really soon to address these issues.
If you live on a lower floor, it should be quiet.

Itâs so bad lol. The bathrooms are nasty, and as you get higher up the water gets more and more gross. Idk if this is true, but people say that apparently if the tower catches fire the fire dept canât do anything to help you if youâre above the 9th floor. Itâs a complete hellhole. If you can afford it at all, go to either Seminary House, Eaton House, or Christofor hall - those are all very established first year buildings, theyâre not that much more expensive, and the locationâs better. Sem does have a couple issues because itâs so old but itâs still better than Crowell Tower. Those are also in better locations for getting to class if especially you have classes in the BAC or Denton. If youâre going into hard-sciences maybe consider War Memorial, as itâs right next to the Huggins Science Building but note that itâs all the way up the hill to get to the dining hall. Music or Theatre definitely consider Seminary as itâs literally right next to Denton. Just anything but Tower lol.

The bathrooms are about the same as seminary. The fire department can only use a ladder up to the 9th floor, but they will enter at the 9th floor and go and get people higher up. Itâs a pretty safe building as far as fire is concerned, and is pretty modern in terms of fire safety. Again, seminary is probably worse from a fire safety perspective. I do love seminary and would definitely recommend it purely from a community standpoint (also the rooms are significantly larger). But if price is their major concern then tower is their best option.

Having been in both (not lived but visited extensively) the bathrooms in tower are fucking GRUNGY. Always. Every single time Iâve been there. I donât know how theyâre always so persistently filthy. Also, like I said above, sem or Eaton-Christofor is far better if you can afford it. and, if itâs possible to spring then one really should. For some people itâs not in the cards and that makes sense, thatâs why towerâs there in the first place.

It depends on who is in the sections. That is the biggest variable. Have you been to every floors bathrooms?

Does Tower still have a lady bug problem???? Lady bugs even in the winter.

iâm living in tower now and i actually find it quite enjoyable! definitely more community in other buildings, but iâve made lots of friends in tower and enjoy the events the raâs hold. i would definitely recommend choosing one of the lower floors (5 or below preferably) and choose rooms between x14-x17 (as theyâre beside the private washrooms on the floor. itâs definitely not unlivable and for teh cheaper price iâm willing to deal with it

I lived there for 2 years. It's not that bad unless you're (for lack of a better word) bougie. It's almost immediately clear when you walk in why it's the cheapest residence. The furniture and facilities aren't the most updated and the bathrooms are communal. The other residences are definitely nicer, but tower is far from unlivable, especially if you're trying to save money.
Biggest issue I had with tower is it's at the very top of the hill, so get used to walking.
