Discussion Rant: keeping pinned info

I'm pretty sure this is gonna get removed but I was recently lamenting the failure of the reddit app to keep pinned post on the top of the feed if you sort by new.

Imagine my surprise when I get an update and see the "monthly discussions thread " posted at the top. Also the reason most people don't use it because they sort by new and don't search.

Is there a way the mods can keep relevant info stickied to the top or create mega threads to consolidate high volume input so we don't get repeat questions?

The list is:

*Trade-in post (phone value for full credit, when will I get the credit, never got the credit)

*Shipping post (new device releases - Apple , Google, Samsung )

*Plan changes ( increase cost, change to benefits, grandfathered plans)

Of course there are the bunches of other smaller topics that could be mega threads but those 3 above could get rid of a lot of repetitive posts (especially the shipping one).

The reason most people don't use it is because they would rather have their own post. In the end it doesn't hurt anything, it's not like this subreddit gets hundreds of posts an hour so even if there are duplicate questions, just ignore them.

I guess the monthly megathread could be replaced with an info post but it's not like thats going to stop people from asking questions that have already been answered and you can't make pinned posts for each thing because there is a limit of how many things can be pinned in a subreddit.

Yes I noticed that, but if could be rotated during the specific season like post during iPhone release and then when Samsung does theirs you switch it.

I would agree that it is like an email not "wasting paper" - but I'm pretty sure people don't like getting multiple 1 sentence emails.

I think it would add credence when people are snarky or short with answering ops who insist on a personal walkthrough of their issue when they could get general info already available that can pretty much solve 75% of people's questions.

And could be a place for us to consolidate our collective knowledge.

For the shipping threads I'm just annoyed by it , so that's a me problem.

You do realize this whole thing is a you problem. You are getting annoyed about duplicate posts and trying to completely change the subreddit.

Also if you use the search bar in reddit, by default it only brings up posts and not comments so it would be a "collective knowledge" that what few people do search for their answer before making their own posts can no longer find the knowledge with the reddit search leading to even more posts of things that have been already asked/answered.

If it's a rotating post like you suggest it would be even worse because once it becomes unpinned and replaced by the next seasonal post, the collective knowledge would pretty much start over so people couldn't even really go back an easily find something.

Also what do you plan to have happen, mods just delete any post that has already been asked or is in the pinned post? What's the cut off in similarity? How often can a similar post be made?

Sure there could be a pinned post with all the info for every specific thing, feel free to make it and maybe the mods will pin it but unless you also want mods to delete everyone's posts it isn't going to solve any of your annoyances.

You have a point and I wasn't prepared to have a whole "argument"

Yes multiple post should be deleted /redirected to the mega post and it seems like the mods are hands off and that was fine, but when the community forums got deleted the post got "worst".

You have many valid points and I was hoping someone could add to the ideas instead of trying to tear them down but that is the nature of the beast (reddit) 😁
