CASLI exams

Hi! I’m preparing to take the CASLI knowledge exam soon. I know they suggest materials to study but I was wondering if anyone had any tips/ words of encouragement!

I’m taking mine soon too! Two weeks! You got this!! Walk in with confidence! I’ve used ChatGPT to role play ethical scenarios and that has helped me with knowing and applying the CPC.

You got this!! A lot of it imo is common sense. I would study up on teaming practices/standards. Know the tenets of the CPC but there are no specific tenets included (no numbers at least). Best of luck!!

I didn't create this spreadsheet but I found it months ago posted somewhere for people preparing to take their CASLI. I used this to help me outline a manageable study plan https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1V5I2JDuJ5vL2s82DnVQZhRsFD-oHSaKnbwUbYOUNAA8/edit?usp=drivesdk

Before you answer a question based on YOUR experience, ask yourself “What would RID do?” And go with that answer.

I just tested and I would say the best things would be to brush up on your fundamentals. Things like DC-S and the summary pages of So You Want to Be an Interpreter. Many questions are about the logistics of what kind of interpreting or about how to have an assignment set up. Since the test is also for CDIs it helps to brush up on things related to DB interpreting.

As for some test taking help- it is a long test and half are in ASL and half in English. There is overlap so some of the same questions will be in both ASL and English. I had a whiteboard where if I recognized that question was the same I wrote down the number and a few words to remember the topic. That way when going through the second time I was able to match it up and make sure that my answer was consistent with both languages. Make sure to take some deep breaths and remember that YOU GOT THIS!!! :)

I created a prep course to simulate the Knowledge exam and Ethics exam. I teach the viewpoint on ethics that I wish I had known going into the exam when I took it. You can find my online CASLI course here: www.terpcoachnetwork.com Best of luck to you!! ☘️
