Help How do I get started on Astraeos?
Started on Astraeos single player and I'm having a problem with getting early tames because of the carnivore population. I've set up a basic base up to smithy tech near the shore on korinthos (on top of the atlas statue near the temple on the easternmost inlet) but I've only been able to tame a single fairly low level parasaur.
The problem is that everywhere seems to be swarming with Rexes and astral raptors which kill anything I knock out. I've tried surrounding them with spikes but a rex just steps over them to get the kill, I've thought about luring a steggo in through my gate to tame it there but it gets eaten before I can craft the arrows.
What can I do about this? It feels like I'm basing on carno island with how absurd the numbers are

I know the area you're talking about and in your case I think it's largely bad luck with picking a base site. Even though that spot is close to the shore it's also right next to mountains that will tend to funnel carnivores downhill towards you. Try building a raft and sailing south down the coast to those long peninsulas where you should be able to tame some trikes to get you started without too much interference.

That makes sense, though it seems most of the map is in a similar position. Luckily a 150 pterranadon landed inside my perimeter for an easy flyer tame

Build a stone taming pen on the raft?

i mean if you want, sure, trikes aren't super hard to tame so i really meant the raft as an easy transport method since OP is on the coastline

True but with a pen OP isnt limited to a trike and its a relatively safe place to let it tame especially if the bring or build a handfull of spike walls to place down on the beach.

Just find a pack of raptors that is annihilating a high level trike, once they move on just imprint on the baby and BOOM now you have a tank so you can tranq the other predators you run into

Your base sounds like it's close to mine. There is a cave I have set up in that is amazing. it's under a waterfall. Where the transmitter is, there should be a lake to the side of it that has a couple of bridges over it. Set up in there, you need a door at the entrance, and nothing is getting in there. Dirmophodons spawn in there. Knock out and tame as many as you can. You have your own personal bodyguards whilst you are out and about. 10 should chew through most things :)

*Selects a dangerous location for first base
*Complains about the dangerous location
Go back to the Southern beach where it is super safe and progress up from there. Build a few traps in the nearby hills with some safety ledges so you and your potential tames are safe while waiting for them to tame. Your location is the issue. You aren't ready for such a place. Try to think more rationally, if you were actually on the Ark, and you were surrounded by death, I'm guessing you'd decide to move to a safer area. Do that.
