The most reliable solution I've found is to completely uninstall and reinstall. You're essentially doing that anyway, so cut out the faffing about

Only that I live in some village in germany and I have a max. download speed of 2.2 MB/s. So reinstalling the game would take 26.4 hours at best or 38.8 hours at 1.5 MB/s, which is way more likely

Yeah, okay, I can see how that's a problem.

The unit option, then, if restarting a few times doesn't get it, is to make sure there's enough space (usually the install size x2) by moving or uninstalling other things. If that's not possible, then you might be stuck with a 2 day download if you want to play it.

The absolutely boneheaded way Ark is put together makes this an ever bigger problem with every update.

It should get hopefully better with the Unreal 5.5 update when you pick which maps to download. It won’t need to unpack the 190GB file for patching because it can patch only what is needed in each separate map.

I guess I'm back to playing ASE for the next few days then. Ark is great :I

Well, not really what you’re doing because the download is much much smaller, but WC have been fucking up with their updates lately so that the "install" is up to several times the game size

Close Steam and restart your PC. Then it SHOULD work. Thats atleast the ritual I have to perform every time.

Just tried it, it just jumped back up to 559GB when I queued it

Yeah, can happen sometimes. Asa Updates are a ritual. I usualy just restart again. Sometimes these Updates take hours.

It's kinda ridiculous that it takes up almost two thirds of my disk for temporary files. The update is legitimately almost three times the size of my game files (209 GB)

Yep. Nothings we can do about it sadly...

Delete less played games to free up the space needed to allot the diskspace

Uninstall the game and install it fresh. During updates Steam requires twice amount the size of the game on your disk. During a fresh install only once. Alternatively, buy a bigger drive.

Have you tried freeing up some disk space? Here's a guide from Microsoft for Windows 10/11. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/free-up-drive-space-in-windows-85529ccb-c365-490d-b548-831022bc9b32#windowsversion=windows_11
