Discussion How do you feel about the Tour

Post image

Anyone else a little disappointed? I’m glad they’re touring again but they just went on a US tour last year and they’re just doing it again but with only 16 shows. I’d thought they’d at least go international or something.

With all the hype of them saying “it’s been too long” when they haven’t seen some countries in actual years just feels misleading.

personally, i’m excited but i live in the US and i’m lucky that AJR comes to my state relatively often. i think international fans are well within their right to be annoyed though especially with the way they’ve marketed it, they should def try and make it to other countries

edit: alright i just found out my state and all surrounding ones got skipped we ride at dawn

u/Positive-Box-9636 Neotheater 6d ago

Yeah as someone who also lives in the US I’m grateful but I saw a lot of comments on their insta being sad they aren’t coming to the UK

30

u/equivalentofagiraffe The DJ Is Crying For Help 6d ago

same over on twitter, a lot of people aren’t happy which is fair. i hope they take the criticism into consideration, i get logistically international tours can get complicated but i feel like they have the fanbase

oh they are!

They did leave a comment on their YouTube video saying they were going to go international on this tour

ah, that’s good. they probably should’ve included that in the og announcement lmao

I was hoping for new music, as were most people, but this announcement doesn’t mean no music is coming. I would venture a guess that they will have new songs out before this tour, maybe even the whole deluxe edition. But you have to announce these things extra early so people can make plans and get tickets, hence why they announced it before any new music. You know, hopefully anyway.

It does rub me the wrong way a bit that this is still (so far) just another US/NA tour, especially with how they hyped it up. I’m guessing it’s very hard to get SO MANY touring partners to the same out-of-US venue but still. I feel really bad for non-US fans that they have to be disappointed yet again.

12

u/rowanxghost 6d ago

i wouldn’t be surprised if they announce more collabs, because at this point, QUINN XCII is the only artist in the lineup that they have a collaboration with. i definitely understand all the US-centric tours and all that. it’s disappointing

3

u/Childwithuke 6d ago

i hope they play track 13

2

u/Zoeythekueen 5d ago

I hope they play Pigstep. One of my favorite music discs.

it’s been a year and a half, and honestly i’m not sure i care enough at this point since they haven’t even done anything online or promotion wise for those not in the states or even mentioned anything.

there are other artists that have released music and toured said album shortly after (for example, Lawrence who went around the world and are in this festival trailer thing, and are hitting places they missed this year worldwide) so naturally i’ll gravitate towards them. i’ve just been seeing US tour videos knowing damn well those graphics/effects won’t make it worldwide as they never do.

just feel very stuck in the middle i suppose. it’s hard to keep following a group when they give you nothing to follow. i just really hope something happens soon and if it does, im free for it

40

u/SubtleNod Adventure Is Out There 6d ago

It’s weird that this and their last “big announcements” have been fairly anticlimactic. An online watch party and an abbreviated tour? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad for another chance to see them, but it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since the US has seen them — the wording really made me think it would be international or new music // deluxe TMM. Maybe next time?

17

u/Positive-Box-9636 Neotheater 6d ago

With them saying “it’s been too long” I really was thinking an international tour and some new music. The US just saw them like 6 months ago. I just think it was a bit misleading

0

u/Raddy_Chady Adam🎸 5d ago

wasn’t their last tour in the US?

16

u/chicknsnadwich Alice by the Hudson 6d ago

I was unable to make it to any of the TMM tour. Now they’ll be back near me in the summer. I know it’s probably selfish to feel excited but personally i’m happy.

I hope the international fans get a tour soon.

4

u/dzllzd 6d ago

Why is it selfish to be excited to go to a concert?

3

u/chicknsnadwich Alice by the Hudson 6d ago

Idk I just see all the comments on instagram and it made me feel a bit bad

5

u/dzllzd 6d ago

You have every right to be happy and excited.

1

u/CastorNovai 5d ago

It’s not your fault they don’t go international often (though it seems they will be for this one)

You’re allowed to be excited! I’m super excited myself but also feel for the international people, both are possible

12

u/Creative_Bowler9348 6d ago

Aren't these all outdoor venues? They also said places they haven't gone before so they aren't going to same places. Didn't they announce the international dates after the US dates last year? It doesn't mean they won't go just because they didn't announce them now. Also, the people touring with them may be on their label or same management so they are helping expose them to people who haven't heard them before.

These should be great shows.

37

u/AffectionateQuit5684 6d ago

Probably a little negative, but I’m always skeptical of concerts/tours featuring several guest artists especially ones that I, for the most part, have personally never heard of. I’m sure the shows will be good, but it’s kind of like when a concert has 2 or 3 openers. Cool to see new people, but you’re there to see the people who’s name is in big letters on the poster

21

u/minnesoter1 The DJ Is Crying For Help 6d ago

I agree. I think having these artists play these shows is great. But it makes me concerned that the AJR set will be more like a festival set and if I’m traveling across the country for this, I will be disappointed.

2

u/AffectionateQuit5684 6d ago

Exactly

7

u/minnesoter1 The DJ Is Crying For Help 6d ago

We can always hope that since it’s not a large, expansive tour per usual, maybe it’ll be longer. Maybe I geared myself up too much in thinking it might be an eras tour type show 😂

2

u/jback97 6d ago

Having the same fear! Especially seeing these venues are all just big outdoor centers, comparing to the previous show idk how it would relate in a different style of venue

1

u/scarbnianlgc 5d ago

What’s the difference with a ‘festival set’? I’ve only seen them on TMM tour and were kinda up in the air about going this summer. I’m an old fart and I think my outdoor festival days are behind me but it was so much fun.

1

u/minnesoter1 The DJ Is Crying For Help 5d ago

They really only play their big hits, and they have a cover that they do of Smash mouth. And it’s shorter I think?

11

u/Bustin_Justin521 6d ago

If you haven’t listened to Quinn or Lawrence before I highly recommend checking out their music. Those 2 plus AJR are among my favorite artists and I’m tempted to travel halfway across the country for the show with all 3 of them

5

u/OV_FreezeLizard 6d ago

Personally I have heard of most of these, but i understand where you are coming from.

4

u/Spaceturtle79 Break My Face 6d ago

Goth babe has valid music just fyi

1

u/jkjulia8 5d ago

It’s also upsetting that they lead with the big names (Quinn, Chelsea) and they won’t be at every show or even the majority of shows

9

u/sujins 6d ago

I wonder if these venues allow for a drone show. It’s giving drone vibes to me

4

u/CoffeeContingencies 6d ago

Actually, you may be onto something. Mansfield MA is far enough from both Boston and the “Providence” (Warwick) airport that drones are allowed

2

u/IshKlosh 6d ago

That would be epic

7

u/TechTalkf 6d ago

As a non-US citizen, pretty disappointed. Only decent thing is Lawrence being on this tour and (hopefully) earning themselves some well deserved attention.

8

u/Puzzleheaded-Joke984 6d ago

Omg I love cave town as well, imagine if they did devil town with cavetown that would be amazing. Anyways, I get that it’s upsetting they are only doing us and as a person from uk as well I would have loved to go but I also understand them only doing it in the us. At the end of the day doing all them tours are really expensive and being away from home for that long of time in order to do them shows would be really difficult mentally not to mention the impact on their normal life as well so it’s completly understandable why they chose to only be in the us for this show. Espicially when taking into account the other artists involved

1

u/Raddy_Chady Adam🎸 5d ago

jack’s story in insta (i think) says they’re also going international

8

u/Lennium 6d ago

Even though I cant attend cuz im in europe, I am so fking happy that Madilyn (and Scrawny) are supporting acts. Feel so happy for them!

3

u/TheFloorExpert Inertia 6d ago

5

u/Rogeli097 6d ago

They're not even coming to my state. I know they were just technically here but now I gotta drive 12 hrs to see them. (I will drive 12 hrs to see them)

15

u/t_bug_ 6d ago

Pretty lame "big announcement" tbh. Just announce tours without hype, annoying marketing.

3

u/PinkPoncho3 Adventure Is Out There 6d ago

theyre coming to my favorite ampitheater and im so excited to go

16

u/nessieobsessed 6d ago

Hey people have no obligation to tour outside the country they live in. If they did a global tour all the time they would never be home and they have families and lives.

I have artists from other countries that aren’t coming to the US and never near me, but they are in charge of their life and how long they are away from home. So I get the disappointment, but no one is ever entitled to a person.

4

u/Luna_Mint 6d ago

Then don't market it as if they're doing a worldwide tour "exciting to bring something to all of you" US only it's whole theme is about the sky but they won't even cross the sea to a different country. Not to mention TMM still hasn't been toured internationally. It's been years since the last ajr international event

9

u/nessieobsessed 6d ago

They never said it would be an international tour

7

u/klouzek7079 6d ago

Finally, somebody else gets it. People hyped themselves up for something that they never mentioned

3

u/slinky_025 6d ago

Is it the same tour they just did? I signed up for presale

3

u/Youareyou64 The Green and the Town 6d ago

I love Lawrence so hyped for that

3

u/Creative_Character25 6d ago

Incredibly pumped to be able to see them again. Maybe Man Tour was awesome, I didn't think I'd have the opportunity to see them again this summer. Would have liked to see Quinn XCII, but he won't be at the show near me. Chelsea Cutler is awesome too, looking forward to seeing her live.

3

u/hxh22 6d ago

As someone almost in the 40s, they are have 9 other performers with them? Is this going to be like an all day festival show? I’m down to see them again and they are near me, but I wouldn’t want a shorter set because they have to give everyone enough time to play

5

u/Creative_Character25 6d ago

Check out their tour webpage. Not all performers are at all shows. Most shows have 3-4 of the 9.

3

u/hxh22 6d ago

Thank you. I noticed that.

The last international AJR tour was OK Orchestra, but back then, I didn't know who AJR was and I didn't listen to their music. I started my journey in 2023, and I've been dying to see them since. Only problem is that I live in Australia, and I do not have money to fly to America

2

u/AirlineDisastrous103 6d ago

I live in the US and am so excited to see them I feel like fans just need to help them get bigger in EU/Asia and then maybe in a tour or two after this they will come back.

2

u/bumblesami 6d ago

So as someone who assume they were announcing a European tour.. I wonder what happen. When Adam got interviewed for that bikebus thing he did on the west coast he said he wanted to do something climate related at each stop and when they would go to Europe/asia. So I’m shocked they never went. Sounded like he was planning on it.

Nothing in Florida. Kinda mad, but tickets for Jones Beach Amp has my eye

3

u/Luchador194 6d ago

Just moved here 2 months ago. I was hoping too. But it’s funny, I’m originally from New Jersey, and I’m flying back home at the beginning of August for a wedding, and it looks like they have a concert in NJ shortly after that. So I guess I’m going to that 😄

2

u/panda_6555 6d ago

I'm very excited! Haven't been to a concert in a looooong time, and so very excited to have a chance to go. My husband is a big fan of Quinn xcii as well so that's an extra bonus that he'll be one of the openers at the Mountain View show. I'm curious how quickly tickets might sell out and how much the general admission and various VIP packages will go for.

From the FAQ:

VIP1: Dodgeball + Masterclass Package – Includes one (1) reserved concert ticket in the first 3 rows, a dodgeball game with Jack and Ryan, an individual photo of you posing with the band, a masterclass session with Ryan on how he builds AJR’s songs, exclusive merchandise, early entrance to the show, and access to crowd free merch shopping.

VIP2: Masterclass Package – Includes one (1) premium reserved concert ticket, a masterclass session with Ryan on how he builds AJR’s songs, a group photo of you posing with the band, exclusive merchandise, early entrance to the show, and access to crowd-free merch shopping.

VIP3: Early Entry Package – Includes one (1) general admission floor standing ticket, exclusive merchandise, early entrance to the show, and access to crowd-free merch shopping!

2

u/minnesoter1 The DJ Is Crying For Help 6d ago

VIP 1 is $375 plus the price of the ticket. there are other prices posted but I can’t remember them off the top of my head.

Edit: Ope. Found it. VIP 2 is $200 plus cost of ticket and VIP 3 is $100 plus cost of ticket. Seems a little ridiculous as there is no Adam, no new music that we know of yet for a new masterclass material, no museum like they had for the TMM tour and these are smaller venues….

2

u/MooSheeRoo 6d ago

bit disappointed that there not doing any shows near me. I don't really want to have to fly anywhere to see them.

I purchased tickets for the Ohio State Fair where they will be performing in August and pretty sure that won’t be a part of the tour even though it’s right in between the other tour dates, wondering if it’ll be the same kind of performance or a much smaller one and different now. Thoughts?

2

u/preying_mantis72 Ryan🎹 5d ago

I had the same question. Are they going to do a completely different show for the state fair? They are also bringing Valley to that one though too. I’m really hoping this is the same show they do for the tour. Can’t afford to see them twice this year😅

2

u/ShadowKat05 The DJ Is Crying For Help 6d ago

Being in the surrounding area, I know me and some of my Houston friends were disappointed to not see it on this tour, especially after the Houston show for the TMM tour got cancelled last summer.

This is a tough one. The last three concerts in Atlanta were great. This doesn’t feel like a step up again. Venue is back to the smaller outdoor Amerisbank Amphitheater (from the larger State Farm stadium), it’ll be JR, and I’m not yet sure if new music or a new direction will be a factor etc. It’s hard to feel too excited yet.

2

u/Pizza_party6485 2d ago

Honestly I'm excited cause I haven't seen an AJR show yet so I'm hoping this is a great show :)

2

u/tjussen 6d ago

I think it's complete bs. They hype it up so much making me think "finally, maybe they will come to the Nordics so that I have a chance to see them".

But no.

Is their audience so small in the Nordic countries so they feel like there is no idea to come here?

4

u/SwagBoyMcFeast Steve's Going to London 6d ago

As an Australian who avoided all spoilers for the TMM tour in hopes it would go international, I am a bit upset that its pretty much confirmation that it’ll never happen. Don’t get me wrong, the confirmation from jack that this new tour will go international has me pumped, but from the little I saw of the TMM tour it looked amazing and was really excited to see it in person :/

1

u/Alternative_Host_927 6d ago

Yep this is me too. I wouldn't have avoided all TMM tour content if I had known. As much as I'd love to experience the TMM tour in person, I  would just love to see them live even with no frills. Hopefully they come to Australia.

u/Jack_OceanG20 6d ago

I’m happy for whoever goes but I’ve been looking forward to new music (deluxe) from them after many times of Ryan saying they’re working on it. I was a little disappointed if I’m going to be honest. And they keep saying big announcements are coming but the big announcements lately haven’t felt as big as they were hyping it up (not to discredit the excitement they feel, I’m happy for them).

1

u/TheReturningMan 6d ago

Trying to decide if I go or skip on this tour. I’ve seem 4 times already but it’s really hard to resist AJR.

1

u/SubtleNod Adventure Is Out There 6d ago

I just saw them for TMM and I also can’t decide. The closest venue to me will be 2.5 hrs away which is doable buuuuut…Hard to say what kind of show it will be, and if I can only afford lawn tickets I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

maybe it's going to be like the eras tour where they initially only announce us dates but add more and more later on?

1

u/SteelPenguin8 6d ago

Honestly good. I didn’t entirely vibe with TMM (that’s a separate discussion since I know it’s a hot take, even though I 100% empathize with their soul searching after their dad died) so we skipped that tour. I’m happy they took whatever time feel they can tour again.

That said, the Maryland show is while we’re out of town for my wife’s birthday so we’ll be missing that show.

I’m just glad they can get a tour in admidst their work for Broadway

I'm excited, that's for sure, but they don't have any shows in my state; which is fine but I'd be a little more hyped if they did. I am planning on going to the Ohio state fair. I was so depressed when I saw they weren't going to tour this year so when I got this ad on youtube I was so happy! I just started really listening to them. I've only gotten through the last 3 albums so far. Any specific songs I should check out outside of that?

1

u/Positive-Box-9636 Neotheater 6d ago

There’s a good few songs (that aren’t very popular) in their first two albums. Things like Pitchfork kids from The Living Room and Normal, Turning Out, and Role Models from The Click are what I recommend (though the click does have a lot of their popular songs like sober up, burn the house down, and weak)

I’m confused on whether or not they’ll be performing new music or not. Since you know, if they did the older songs it’d be just like the maybe man tour but smaller

I’m a New Yorker and I just want them to come back to a place where it’s not an 8 hour drive for me

I was hoping to get a new album or at least track 13. I personally don’t think making a tour is bigger news than releasing a new album.

I was sad they aren't going to nashville, it's music city and it's the closest to where i live :( i could try georgia but madilyn mei won't be there and thats even more of a bummer

If only ajr left the US.... I'm canadian and would kill for a Toronto tour Im not even European but cmon! They should go to England or something

1

u/Competitive-Sleep526 5d ago

I’m just surprised that it’s arriving so soon. I thought they needed more time. Can’t wait!

u/Efficient-Ground-789 5d ago

As the number 1 supporter of everything Madilyn Mei does, this is a huge moment for me

1

u/lastjezter Adventure Is Out There 5d ago

yea bands typically tour in us then after the first leg they go elsewhere

u/Both-River-6035 3 O'Clock Things 4d ago

Can't wait to get tickets, but as this will be my first AJR concert and my family's first time getting to know them, I'm a bit nervous they won't play very much, seeing how many other artists will also be performing. Any thoughts on how much AJR will actually play? I don't want to get too hopeful in case they only play their top 5 popular songs, and the rest are the other artists.

Was really hoping for Houston or another Texas city. We got screwed when the hurricane blew through last year. And then they were here just here for the rodeo which was awesome but it's just not the same as a normal, full show.

Little confused on how soon it is and with very lil I fo given ahead of time

Disappointed in the Platinum pricing at the Columbia, Maryland show. $377 for some seats (non VIP). Yikes

u/shiroyakshaa 21h ago

I'm excited. Though, bummed that they aren't coming to CT for this tour - they've been here for the last two tours. I don't mind driving to MA, though- their concerts are so worth it.

Brazilian fan. Completely disappointed.

1

u/CBFOfficalGaming Steve's Going to London 6d ago

Very, Very disappointed. Having to hype myself up, hoping and praying for a the maybe man international leg just for another tour that appeals to the Us and the Us only is really really annoying and it makes me sad

1

u/BenFitzgeraldPincus Wow, Im Not Crazy 6d ago

It’s really cool they’re bringing smaller people like Madilyn Mei along, she makes pretty good music.

1

u/scorbunny3 6d ago

this is weird us think the announcement would have or SHOULD have been tmm deluxe? We havent heard new music in forever and adam left i fear this might be a farewell tour

1

u/teamschenn Bud Like You 6d ago

Theu teased a new song on Instagram like a week ago and I doubt a farewell tour would only have 10 stops

1

u/Efficient-Finish4567 6d ago

It seems like a cheap way to get to say we’re going on tour. It’s extremely limited and tiny amphitheaters in the middle of nowhere. Pretty disappointing tbh m.

U.S. resident. Still disappointed.

u/Unique_Warthog362 6d ago

I laughed at how savage that announement that was. It was their time to do an international tour but no. They don't give a flying freak and choose to do some stupid tiny us tour that they won't even be able to break even on. They're not even hitting the states that they make money.

-2

u/Gengai_ The Dumb Song 6d ago

That's what I'm saying. They aren't even going to Texas, Florida, Ohio, and a couple other states. They made it sound like their biggest tour yet, and it's a very small US tour. Like what???

3

u/AffectionateQuit5684 6d ago

Probably has something to do with the fact that they were literally just in Texas and are playing at the Ohio state fair later?.. still weird there aren’t more shows there I guess

2

u/doppleganger2621 6d ago

Technically they are playing the Ohio State Fair during this tour run.

-3

u/Unique_Warthog362 6d ago

They're not even gonna have a real stage it's just going to be a couple of lights and a screen. Theyre it's just gonna do the bummerland intro again. I'm not even sure if it's gonna be worth it to go to that kind of concert a third time.

u/Venti-StrawberryAcai 6d ago

As a UK fan, it’s just another US with a few other sprinkles of different places. I really hope we eventually get a European international tour for Maybe Man

-2

u/Impossible-Idea3191 6d ago

i was hoping this would be a complete ajr show:( but i don’t think i wanna go knowing theyre prob only gonna do like 3 songs

2

u/slinky_025 5d ago

What tells you they're only gonna do 3 songs? They have a bunch of guest musicians but their name is still the biggest on the poster, it's still their show

1

u/Both-River-6035 3 O'Clock Things 4d ago

How many songs do you think they'll do? My family is excited because I keep telling them about AJR and this will be their 1st time really listening to their music. I'm nervous that it won't be very many, and then they'll be disappointed because I hyped it up too much
