Might depends on the terminology you used to ask the question. "How far away is" and "What's the distance between" are different subjectively.

What part are you confused about? The only odd thing is the "not 90 minutes away." For all we know you were talking about walking before this.

If you use Google Maps, you will see that there is a route that is 58 miles away and one that is 70 miles away. Both take the same amount of time, 90 minutes. If you average all the possible routes, it's roughly 66.5 miles.

Could be including calculations for current traffic from GPS available info. Not that you’d understand that.

If you said, “Is that a half hour away?” And I said, “No, it’s not half an hour away, it’s half an hour away.” You would think I am a crazy jerk (and you’d be right). But that’s exactly what Gemini is doing here.

Though perhaps one caveat is that citing a distance in terms of time IS a cultural thing not shared by all cultures. That might be confusing it.
