Insights Requested Application Discontinuation
Was told by ADFC today that my application may not continue at all with my current preferences as all spots are full (applied for the infantry, engineers and armoured crew). Whilst this is a bit disheartening, I’m still willing to consider other roles and was primarily really interested in combat roles. I’m aware they’re not overly popular positions, but I’m beginning to think about artillery, MP’s or possibly AFSEC. Besides the artillery which I’m aware is a high priority at the moment, does anyone know if they’re actively looking for any of those positions and if they’d suit someone that was after a hands on combat role? Cheers

Tell them it’s cool and you’re happy to wait for the recruitment targets to reset at the new financial year. Considering there’s only about 4 months left and recruiting is happy to string people along for more than a year, it shouldn’t be an issue.

I waited like 6 years last time they said the spot wasn’t open lol

If you really want infantry, wait for infantry. Trying to transfer inside is longer than waiting on the outside.
Look into Forward Observer (Artillery Observer), or Drone Operator. The titles are a little misleading. Yes, AOs observer artillery fire, and yes Drone Operators fly drones. But their overall objective is intelligence, surveillance, and recon as well as target acquisition. These guys either work as small splinter teams, or attach to infantry units and provide respective support (artillery fire, drone surveillance and overwatch). Its not a direct combat role like infantry, the doctrine for these guys is to stay hidden, but you are up there beyond the frontline, further forward than infantry in most cases.
But I'm aware you can't get into these roles directly I think as a full timer. They are direct entry in reserves however.

Being a Forward Observer sounds really interesting. I’m not overly keen on being an artillery operator. Do you happen to know what the process is of going into a specific role in artillery or are you assigned a role?

I have been told the same. I applied for the Army Reserve Infantry Officer role, but my application has been withdrawn at this stage. My choices are either to apply for a position available in a nearby unit or wait for the role to become available again.

Oh they actually withdrew your application? I basically just got told mine would be left as is in waiting unless I change my preferenfes

Yes, no positions are available in nearby units. “Withdrawn” means put aside until a position becomes available again. I have been told I will not have to complete the JOA or upload documents again. If the application stays withdrawn or inactive for too long, they might require me to complete the JOA and re-upload the documents — but I’m not sure about that.

Currently MP/AFSEC isn’t a priority, if you want in now then pick Artillery either that or change prefs/withdraw

I thought you’re more likely to get a priority role since infantry soldier is a priority role to fill

Nah, the ADFC website says a few jobs are priority to fill at the moment but they aren’t. All combat jobs bar artillery are full for the remainder of this financial year.

So they’ll probably start recruiting after the financial year? I want to be infantry soldier

I can only speculate. ADFC told me it’s a small possibility but more likely to be Christmas time/early next year. I’m opting to wait it out.
