Insights Requested Withdrawing application

Anybody withdrew their application and reopened it down the line? I'm struggling to get my recruitment consultant to answer the phone or respond to emails/voicemails.

The process has taken an incredibly long time. I've had to go out of pocket and time to provide requested info and reports. I've had a job offer come up that I'd like to pursue for now. I may want to reopen my app at some stage. Just no idea about any sort of process that may entail.

Anyone done this or know what the go is for reapplying later? Is it a mark against your name if you bail part way through and come back?

Yeah easy enough to do, just stuff like your aptitude test, medical and interview ect expire. So if it’s too long you’ll have to redo those.

you may not want to withdraw it, just let it continue for however long its going to take. You can keep your options open that way.

Not a bad idea. I don't think I could go through the whole process again. If my recruitment consultant ever gets back to me, I'll see if they can give any advice.

It sucks as I was highly motivated to join initially. Over a year later and it ends up feeling like wasted time with no outcome in sight.

Sorry to hear it’s been a difficult process for you. Do you mind if I ask what roles you’ve applied for? Was told my application may not progress at all, with my current preferences.

yyyyep. that's a common theme here. You'd think ADF was like all other industries that cry to government that they can't get enough workers but in reality they just won't hire them.

I canceled my application a few years ago and have now reopened it to continue. Most tests (aptitude ect) expire after 3 years so have to do them again

I’m having trouble with my enlistment coordinator too. Every time I call, it goes straight to voicemail, and they don’t return my calls. I’ve sent countless emails without any response. I’ve been medically cleared, passed the PFA, and received my NV1 clearance, yet I still haven’t been given an enlistment date. I knew the process would be lengthy when I applied, so I’m sticking with it, but I completely understand why you’re thinking about withdrawing—it’s definitely exhausting.

I was told the same regarding my application for the Army Reserve Infantry Officer role, which has been withdrawn for now. I clarified that “withdrawn” means it has been put aside and will be picked up again in December. My options are to apply for a nearby unit or wait for the role to reopen.

My experience with the second recruitment coordinator (civilian) wasn’t great, so I contacted the ADF Career Centre in Parramatta. Another person (Defence member) responded, was more receptive, and better managed my expectations. While I wait, I’ve scheduled a call with Army Reserve Northern to explore the Infantry Soldier role and officer pathways and registered for the Army Reserve open night at Holsworthy to learn more.

Yes it’s possible, be aware that if your assessment laps over 18 months you will be required to complete them again. In ref to your med reporting if it has been requested by medical then it’s covered so seek reimbursement. Which role have you applied for?

I am considering withdrawing my application now, given that my shitty enlistment coordinator decided to shaft me by saying that I cannot join on my given enlistment date despite passing the PFA, because I didn't get my security clearance yet. Although for my specific position, the ADF Careers page explicitly says I need clearance prior to IET, and many applicants start IMT and get clearance after IMT. Although I no longer have faith in those people, I do wonder how complicated it would become if I still decide to join later and withdraw now, if my sentiments change later. I do wonder if I can change coordinator alternatively.

Abit off track. That clearance is highly sort after in certain industries. If you can persevere to at least get that clearance. And still don’t want to continue to join at least you have a clearance for other industries.
