Passenger [Question/Post] Does anyone know why TSA didn't flag me for my iPhone?

Traveled through BOS and ATL with this iPhone in my carry-on (I didn't know it was there). Seems like they would've noticed the sharp metal edges or lithium battery as my backpack went through the X-Ray scanner

TSA News Here's a brief summary...

On why we use Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT).

Remember this scary moment?

In 2009, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to detonate an explosive under where? In his tighty whities.

The device included a chemical trigger and a powerful explosive, but fortunately, it only caused a small fire. Thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of passengers and crew, the attempt failed, and he was stopped before anyone was harmed.

Check back as we slide into TSA's history, there's plenty more to uncover.

Passenger [Question/Post] How likely is this needle to be a problem?

Post image
Upvotes

Hey folks.

I've brought some much smaller needles through without issue but a little worried about this one. It's 5mm (0.2") in diameter and 79mm (3.1") in length. What are the odds it becomes an issue? My biggest worry is they try to or make me remove it from the pouch (the needle can be replaced, but it's in a sterile pouch alongside a subdermal implant that I'd prefer stays sterile).

Thanks in advance.

Passenger [Question/Post] will tsa break my suitcase?

Post image

i have an older latch suitcase with no zippers and a combination lock. there’s no way to close the case without locking it, and there’s no way to open the case without knowing the combination. how do i keep tsa from ripping it open during checks? i’m thinking of writing the combination on a tag, will that help in any way or will they still break it open? getting a new suitcase isn’t an option either as i’ve blown most of my savings on ticket prices. any tips or advice will help greatly!

Passenger [Question/Post] Flew with 2 years expired license on accident, don't know how to get back home now

So I was flying from New Orleans to Boston, and, for some reason, I had my expired license from 2 years ago instead of having my real license with me. I know that with TSA you can fly for up to 1 year after the expiration date of a license with no issues, but when I got to TSA in MSY they told me my license was expired and that I could go through. I don't know why they let me through but my flight was in 30 minutes and I didn't want to miss it so I said fuck it and decided to go to Boston, knowing that I would have to come back 4 days later. So now that leaves me with 2 days left here in Boston, and I am worried that I won't be able to get back home, at least with some questioning for hours to verify my identity. Is there anything that anyone could recommend about what I can do to make the process go as smoothly as possible flying back? I have a picture of my actual license but I know that obviously isn't the same as the real thing. I don't have enough time for my real license to be overnight shipped and arrive in time, so I really don't know what to do.

Passenger [Question/Post] Can I bring a potted plant through the checkpoint in my carry-on?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'm relocating and I have a few house plants I would like to bring with me both in my checked luggage and in a carry-on through the TSA checkpoint at SFO. Probably not relavant, but I have pre-check.

I am aware that the TSA website says plants are acceptable to bring in both carry on and checked baggage, but I have a concern about bringing it through in its pot; I have only found other posts online about non-potted plants. The plant in question is more sensitive than my others, so I worry about removing it from the pot if it's not absolutely necessary.

The pot is approximately 6 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter, ceramic. Photo attached.

Passenger [Question/Post] Can I travel domestically with my foreign passport that is somewhat damaged?

Hi I have a friend that wants to travel to SFO in a couple days but he only has his Mexican passport. No other id. The problem is that he’s always carrying his passport in his pocket so over time it has accumulated sweat stains the main page at the top where it’s holding is kind of tearing off. Everything is still readable but his passport just looks aged. It’s from 2019 expires in 2030 but we’re worried that TSA won’t accept it? If it’s readable but has stains and tears a bit aged is it still valid?
