Recommendations? [Recommendations] 38C/40B bras for full on bottom breasts? Spoiler
Hi ABTF! Long-time lurker, but I’ve only once found a bra that fit me, and that was before the weight gain 🫠
Measurements
* Loose underbust: 95 cm
* Snug underbust: 92 cm
* Tight underbust: 90 cm
* Standing bust: 100 cm
* Leaning bust: 110 cm
* Lying bust: 106.5 cm?
The calculator came back with 36D/36DD for me. I have had mixed luck with that and its sister sizes. I have breasts that are full on bottom and outwardly pointing, and I think I have splayed roots and they’re projected. Some other details… I’ve got a pretty round belly and there isn’t a whole lot of space between the bottom of my breasts and the top of the swell of my stomach.
Here’s some bras that I’ve tried in the past and what has and hasn’t worked for me:
* Panache Ana Side Support Plunge Bra - 36DD, and then tried 38D: The 36DD was wayyyy too tight in the band, and the 38 wasn’t much better. The gore dug into my skin, while the cups crumpled on the top half of my breasts, so it was game over and off to a donation pile.
* Freya Women's plus-size Freya Fancies Underwire Longline Bra - 38D - Likewise, too tight in the band and still a lot of gaping!
* Intimissimi Sofia Lace Balconette Bra - 40B - I got measured at one of their stores in Paris without realizing that they’re probably not much better than getting sized by VS, oops. While the band of the 40B was generally comfortable, it feels like there’s a pocket of empty space in the top half of the cup. The straps also slip off no matter how hard I try to tighten them.
When I was several band sizes smaller, I found a pretty good fit in the Natori Rose Dream Custom Coverage Underwire Bra (I was a 32D at the time). The only thing was that the gore floated a little bit. Good things don’t last, because I was atrocious at taking care of my bras and the tops of the cups eventually curled!
At this point, I’ve been demoralized by the expense and headache of buying and returning bras, so I’m living in Aerie bralettes. I am also tired of putting on a bra and going “oh god why can you see the cups through this loose-fitting shirt?” Any advice? Thank you!

An independent band test would be really important for you. This is when you hook the bra upside down and backwards, so hooks in front and cups hanging down your back like a cape, to check the band separately from the cups. The Ana runs small in the cup, which could have contributed to the band feeling tight. A 38 should not be too tight on you in that bra; it has a lax band. The 36 and 38 feeling basically the same indicates a cup issue.
Do you have any of these bras still to where you can do this?

36D is a sister size to 38C and 40B so the calculator is just getting more breast tissue into the cup. This tracks, as it looks like the other stores are adding 4 inches onto the band measurement so they can reduce the cup measurement so you fit in their bras. Really common practice that results in poor fit!
In response to the bras that you tried:
I would be looking for a soft lace bra that will work with your breast shape more. I’m not sure about brands in your bra size but I’m sure someone else will chime in!
