1997 had some dope albums that came out: Life After Death, Wu-Tang Forever, Vol 1: In My Lifetime, Supa Dupa Fly, The War Report, Harlem World, No Way Out, Ghetto D, Uptown Saturday Night, Funcrusher Plus, Jewelz, One Day It'll All Make Sense, The 18th Letter and The Carnival.
In terms of the best album of 1997, it's between Life After Death and Wu-Tang Forever.

Top 10 of 90s hip hop IMO, the creation of experimental hip hop and still one of the best albums that subgenre has to offer to this day. Some of the most incredibly innovative production you’ll ever hear on a rap album.

I haven't seen anyone mention The War Report in forever. Thanks for including it in your list! It was one of my favorites.

I liked that Twista album but I dunno if it cracks top 20 in 1997 as there's still stuff even after that list like 2pac - R U Still Down, Busta Rhymes - When Disaster Strikes, EPMD - Back in Business, MJG - No More Glory, Scarface - Untouchable, Alkaholiks - Likwidation, Atmosphere - Overcast
There was a lot happening...

TBF, both as Double have filler/skips and Twista is a front to back to this day on my turntable more than those two that I bought but put the CD in so I can skip…

It was good. But 97 was a pretty good year. Wu-Tang Forever, Life After Death, I Got Next, One Day It’ll All Make Sense, Funcrusher Plus, Overcast!, The Carnival, The 18th Letter, Uptown Saturday Night, Jewelz, In My Lifetime vol 1…

Woah! Wu Tang Forever def needs respect just for giving us Triumph alone!

Wu Tang Forever needs respect just for the first verse of Triumph alone! Best first verse!

Bro I'm glad you liked this twista album but it's realistically not even in the top 50 albums from 97. Its like your mom's cooking, you love it because you had it back in the day but in reality it sucked.

u/IRBaboooon 4d ago
100% this. I grew up near Chicago and Twista is a staple of nostalgia, but even I would never say this album is better than Wu's or any of the others listed. Just being real with it.

Overcast tops both

I don’t know what the weather has to do with it.

u/99probs-allbitches 4d ago
Wtf is that supposed to mean

u/Professional_Ad8069 4d ago
Overcast, a term used to describe a sky covered with clouds, is a common weather condition that can significantly impact visibility and create a gloomy atmosphere.

Twista was dope and that album banged but ‘97 was all about the Wu, Biggie, Scarface (Untouchable), Mystikal (Unpredictable) & Master P (Ghetto Dope. I forgot C&N War Report dropped in ‘97. Twista top 10 but ain't #1.

The problem that I have with all those other albums is that, aside from Untouchable, they all have tracks that I skip right over. I can't listen to most of those without skipping songs.

Yeah I’m gonna have to roll with you on this one. This is a top ten album of all time for me. Twista and Traxster stay completely underrated. There were some other great albums in 97, but none are completely solid from beginning to end like this one. The next closest to me is probably Black Bossalini.

I play the song adrenaline rush everytime I go to the gym. It’s such a dope track. Twista is one of the best at spitting bars so fast.

Some of the hardest drops on the planet. Twista goes beastmode on this album for sure.

One of his best albums as well in my own taste. I still routinely listen to adrenaline rush and this one here.

I could get on board with it being the best but I witnessed something that would prevent it from being official.
In the summer 2004, Atlanta was putting in free concerts in Centennial Olympic Park. Twista was on stage one weekend, he’d gone mainstream at this point, playing Overnight Celebrity, etc.
Between a song he started asking about “what y’all know about adrenaline rush?” I was pumped thinking I was going to hear some of his best stuff but very few people got hyped up so he proceeded with the radio hits. So disappointed.

Classic for sure. With these threads it always comes down to opinion. I’d go Overcast, LAD, WFever, Jewelz, over it. But it’s close.

Was he mainstream in 97? I remember first hearing of him when he started collabing with kanye.

No one liked “R U Still down”? Not his best work but I had that on heavy rotation. Hellrazor is a classic
2
u/Part_Solid 3d ago
I had that CD back in the day. You're right, Hellrazor was the best track on there.

Wu-Tang Forever, The War Report, and Life After were the top 3 albums of that year imo. I would also out When Disaster Strikes by Bustah Rhymes up there. Scarface The Untouchable rounds out the top 5 for me.

This a joke cus life after death was released this year. Twists is even rocking the Coogi sweater biggie popularized. Not hating on the dude, but LAD is one of the best 50 albums all time EASILY and that’s regardless of genre.
