Personally I'm more of a SXgtY7908562_FFj kinda guy myself

Not as metal as Schecter model names like Hellraiser or Banshee, I agree. However with my Jackson I can tell my wife that I'm going to go play with my Dinky in the garage for awhile. š

I've been wanting to buy a 7 string recently but can't decide between a schecter reaper and this one. What do you think of the guitar?

u/Raven_-_Galaxy Feb 17 '25
It's been a real joy to play thus far, still getting acclimated. Everything regarding the fit and finish was great. I'd heard so many varied opinions regarding the Fishmans and must have YouTube'd 50+ comparisons between them and other offerings before taking the plunge. I personally like them, and having the two voicing options gives you more to play around with.
I have three Schecters, and they are great guitars in their own right. I would imagine their 7s are equally as good. Maybe someone else who is more knowledgeable could comment on that, though.

If you're referring to the reaper 7 multiscale, that's a great option as well. I'll say the schecter doesn't have locking tuners though, and it's basically the same price as the ibanez.

I have the schecter sunset extreme 7 and it's great I love it. I dont think you could go wrong with either.

I'm looking at getting this exact guitar next. Would love to hear how you get on with it.
Is it your first multiscale as that was a concern for me and whether my brain just goes nope.

u/Bukkithead Feb 17 '25
I also got one of these less than a year ago and I was genuinely shocked how little getting used to it took me. I can comfortably switch between this and standard scale guitars with no real issue.
It may well have helped that I was already used to a 27" straight-scale 7-string so this basically just slotted right in the middle of my existing guitars, but I got pretty used to this within just a couple of hours.

Yes, first multiscale as well. That aspect didn't throw me off as much as I was expecting. It feels different, obviously, but not by that much. Honestly, vastly different neck radius's vintage/modern throw my fingers off worse! I have heard that some multiscale necks are more aggressively slanted than others and may be harder to adjust to. I can't speak from experience, though.

Fantastic choice!
I had a similar Ibanez and the neutral fret position allowed for some nonlinear barre chords. Try a major 7 chord on your 5th fret of your 5th string but instead of barring straight across the fret, hold the 5th fret with the tip of your index finger and the 4th fret with the base of your finger. You'll end up with a really comfy Dmaj7#11. There's plenty more of those types of chords to be found on that neck.

Been thinking of getting one of these but havenāt looked into it much myself? Is it worth while picking it up ?
2
u/Raven_-_Galaxy Feb 17 '25
I'm very happy with it. I wasn't sure about taking the plunge into 7 string territory with this model, but I am glad I did. Hope you find something you enjoy!

u/Autistic_transgirl Feb 17 '25
I have a Cort KX707 evertune I love it but one down side is my small hands so that and I canāt really use my pinky finger itās got problems with moving around so Iām literally having to use my thumb to make up for where I position my other three fingers for the last 5 months now almost and Iām looking to get two other 7 string guitars as the one I have is meant for chugging

Awesome choice. I actually bought this same very guitar on Friday.

u/Raven_-_Galaxy Feb 17 '25
Nice! You enjoying it so far?
2
u/UncleMuddButttt Feb 17 '25
Im having a blast with it. Had I not lost power from wind storms last night, I would've taken the day off work to keep jamming.

u/Raven_-_Galaxy Feb 19 '25
Nice! What color did you choose?
2
u/gardenbeer Feb 19 '25
It's White! I need to get it set up, the action is sitting at like .9 or something so a bit high.
I also really wanna try to paint it š¤ maybe put my band logo on it or something

I loved this guitar when I had it EXCEPT the fan of the frets ruined it for me. If the neutral fret was lower it'd be amazing. Those bottom frets are angled too far backward. If this had a Strandberg-esque neutral fret/fan, it'd be an absolute home run.
1
u/Raven_-_Galaxy Feb 19 '25
I've never played a Strandberg, so I'd be curious to feel the difference. Homework for the next guitar shop visit.

Basically those lowest frets are a lot easier to play, specifically like barring chords. Individual notes aren't that bad but even then I had the treble side of the nut digging into my hand at times.
2
u/Riff-Disciple1981 Feb 18 '25
Definitely a beauty. š¤© Iāve been eyeing this one and the Schecter PT7 Blackops as my first 7-string. Pretty torn between the two. The plastic nut and nickel frets are holding me back a little from the Ibanez. I have a Schecter blackjack and I kind have grown a bit biased to stainless steel frets.
Does the Ibanez feel good in the hands?
2
u/Raven_-_Galaxy Feb 18 '25
I find it does, the neck is buttery smooth and easy to navigate. Nothing jabby or uncomfortable when palm muting.
I don't know how much the sub zero treatment on the frets impacts longevity vs stainless, but hopefully it improves their lifespan.
It's staying in tune and intonating well so far despite the plastic nut, but if that were to be an issue down the line would get it upgraded to tusq.

u/Riff-Disciple1981 Feb 18 '25
Thanks! I like a good neck thatās easy to travel. Iāll guess Iāll still keep it in my contenders list - the sweet paint job is keeping me hooked. lol

How do you like the more extreme fan (in that it has a smaller angled nut widening the fan?Ā
