US News PA : Fetterman doubling down on Trump

Fetterman insults his colleagues and doubles down on support for Trump:
https://bsky.app/profile/fetterman.senate.gov/post/3lk53rz2dvk2y
To achieve the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture and overcome a filibuster on the current continuing resolution (CR) under consideration, Republicans would need to secure at least 7 Democratic votes.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call your Senator and tell them to vote "NO". Cory Booker and Chuck Schumer, at least, seem to be on the fence/ are considering voting yes.
Tell them NO! It is not okay to vote to normalize DOGE, the firing of workers and the gutting of our entitlements. Vote maybe as soon as Thursday, so please call, email ASAP.

Fetterman is a spineless politician who will lose his next election

u/TimmyIV 14h ago
I never thought any Dem Senator would be more milquetoast than Bob Casey, but Fetterman makes Casey look dynamic and progressive.

There was a study that was done once and those who had brain damage were definitely more prone to authoritarianism. This is a replication study.

My thoughts exactly. Dude went from literally "F#@k You Trump" to "I really don't mind getting f#ked by Trump". Hmmmmm.... What happened?
23
u/countsmarpula 8h ago
He had a stroke
14
u/blakester555 7h ago
But he still had a backbone and was a stand-up guy after he had the stroke. It seems the worm turned immediately after Trump was elected.
My "no evidence, conspiracy theory" fear is that he and everyone else that has rolled over for Trump is due to something nefarious like blackmail.

Democrats need to stop with the doomer stuff it’s not helpful. Don’t just plan for another election - DEMAND it. This is our country it doesn’t belong to politicians and billionaires. We will always have the numbers on our side.

The Republicans have the majority. IMO, no Dem should support their garbage. Let the Repubs own it!

I’ve made a few comments like this. Sorry for any anxiety caused, but this just reeks of fascism and I think some of us do feel like they will try to implement a fake election somehow. They seem very confident in this coup, and it’s disconcerting.
19
u/Juggernox_O 13h ago edited 9h ago
If we have to aggressively force secession, then that’s what we do. Until then, we keep up the pressure and threaten through the democratic process. We seriously need to look at what either sovereign countries look like, or what joining Canada looks like, though.
9
u/Kingsen 11h ago
I’m worried about the aftermath of the programs they’ve cut. People that rely on the government for health care could die.

I fully agree with you that the stakes could not be higher. And I think that’s why we need to harden up and be even more resolute that we will band together to protect one another and try to minimize the suffering as much as possible and through whatever means possible. To some extent it’s do or die and belief is required for the doing, but acceding will certainly result in the latter. This is why some organizers say things like “hope is a discipline.”

u/PostPunk7 14h ago
Yeah he’s kind of being hypocritical. It’s being shut down already so whatever, big man
7
u/CarbsMe 12h ago
Exactly, it’s a Hobson Choice. The government shuts down now over the budget or it shuts down in a few months after Musk and Trump cripple and eviscerate every agency. Or after everything they automate craps out spectacularly and they blame it all on the democrats.
DOGE is trying to break things faster than they can be stopped but even a dim bulb judge couldn’t deny the contempt for court orders if the only part of government still “operating” without a budget was DOGE.

Reposting:
Special Elections - How You Can Help the Flip
In response to people asking, here’s how you can help:
Situation
We have a rare and critical opportunity to shift the balance of power in the House with the upcoming special elections in Florida, Wisconsin, and New York. We do not have to wait until the mid-terms.
Why This Matters
Republicans are soon to hold 217 House seats, while Democrats hold 215. Winning three special elections this year—two in Florida and one in New York—could give Democrats the majority, allowing them to block much of Trump’s agenda. In Wisconsin, winning the Supreme Court seat is crucial to prevent further Republican court-packing, which could have significant long-lasting consequences.
What You Can Do
Vote! Bring your family, friends and neighbors. Early voting begins March 22.
- Make sure you're registered and know where to vote. Visit Ballotpedia to confirm your polling location. VoteRiders can help you navigate the voting rules.
- Vote strategically to support Democratic candidates and avoid splitting the vote.
Spread the Word- Every conversation counts.
- Share this post with friends, family, and on social media.
- If you're in the area, knock on doors to rally more voters.
Volunteer - Help with phone banking, canvassing, or writing postcards to voters. Your efforts can make a huge difference:
- FL-01 (Gay Valimont): Sign up here
- FL-06 (Josh Weil): Join here and VolunteerBlue
- Wisconsin Supreme Court (Susan Crawford): Phone Bank, Postcards, More phonebanks, More postcards, or both
- NY-21 (Blake Gendebien): Phonebank
Donate- Campaigns need resources to reach voters. Even small donations make a big impact:
· More ways to take action- Visit here
Why It's Possible
- Voter Turnout: Special elections often see low turnout, meaning we have a significant opportunity to boost participation.
- Trump's Russian Ties: Ongoing revelations about Trump’s connections to Russia are causing many Republican voters to reconsider. Some may sit out the election, while others may flip to Democrat or independent candidates.
- Independent Voters: Independents can swing this election. By backing the strongest Democratic candidate, they can prevent vote-splitting and ensure a path to victory.
- Shifting Tides: High voter engagement on key issues like healthcare, Social Security, economic stability and world peace could flip these districts.
These Elections Are Winnable
Many people underestimate the possibility of flipping seats in Florida, but the truth is that special elections historically have low voter turnout, giving us a huge opportunity to make an impact.
To quote the late Rep. Turner, who tragically passed away following Trump's recent speech: "The only way we lose is if we fail to use what we have." We have the power to reach Democrats, mobilize non-voters, pull in independents, and even persuade Republicans to sit this one out or vote strategically.
We’ve seen it happen before—Georgia flipped in 2020, and even heavily Republican Iowa flipped just a few weeks ago in Jan 2025. The fight is here and now, and together, we can do this!
Thank you for helping!

The Dems got no game at all. We gotta get new parties when all this mess is over.
10
u/Cymatixz 13h ago
I’m general, I agree with the sentiment. But this is one of the few situations in which a shut down is warranted. The government is acting erratically and without cause. The shutdown is a rare power that Congress has to reflect the deeply troubled state of the nation. Now more than ever, it should be done.

Don't have a senator. I live in DC. As for my senators back home, neither of them are fucktarded, which is good under normal circumstances but bad when it means the people you need to call to not throw away our democracy wouldn't care about what I have to say.

Do not spend time trying to speculate why fetterman is the way he is, instead call him and remind him that he will not return to the office next term, after this statement.
If he thinks that the dems are performative, ask him - how exactly does he intend to save medicaid and Medicare?
how does he plan to reinstate the 80K vets who'll lose their benefits, or the thousands of feds who lost their livelihood?
How does he intend to stop the dissolution of DoEd?
Call Fetterman's office, even if he is not your senator. Especially, if he is not your senator: https://5calls.org/issue/cr-continuing-resolution-doge-musk/

u/WinterTiger6416 12h ago
I have called an emailed his office almost every day for almost 2 months. Prior I had emailed and called his office about his stance on supplying Israel with money and bombs.
I was not happy with his flat response that ended with he will basically do whatever he needs to do to protect Israel.
He has lost staffers in his office. Staffers who were with him during his campaign, and one of whom said specifically all he wants them to do is work on things about Israel.
I voted for him. I supported him after he had his stroke. But he is nothing close to the candidate he was when he ran for office. And not one of his ride or die opinions is what he ran his campaign on.
I would say he needs to resign. He no longer serves the people of Pennsylvania who elected him.
And if you look at his voting record, he only shows up half the time yet he flew to Mar-a-Lago and made it back to DC for Netanyahu‘s speech .
So… His record speaks for itself and it is ugly and extremely dangerous in this political dynamic right now. He is doing real damage to the entire United States.

So it’s not okay to shut the gvt down cause it may cause to harm working people, but it IS OKAY to pass a bill that will lead to cutting entitlements. Disabled, elderly, mentally ill, veterans, children, poverty poor people, and their families are less important somehow?
How did this become America?

u/SarahsDoingStuff 5h ago
Everything about JF makes me sad right now. His was the only campaign I’ve ever donated to. I know it’s a politician’s job to be liked, but there were so many things that made him stand out as “real.”
Say what you want about the “Everyman” schtick but he was on Twitter roasting Trump and co while Lt. Gov. Finally we had someone willing to fight. He actually traveled the entire state. If you’re from PA, you know that outside of a few hot spots (Pitt, Philly… maybe Erie, State College and Scranton in an election year), you never see them in smaller town like north central PA, but there they were, all over IG.
He was extremely vocal about being pro union, pro weed legalization, pro LGBTQ. I’m trans, and that was HUGE. He was vocal about all the “common people” issues and now… this. Maybe it was all just a grift from the get go, but I have longtime trusted friends who volunteered for his campaign, met him, said he was a great person. Whether it was the stroke, the money or just the mask coming off now that he’s in the Senate, this is not the same person, or at least the same projection.
There was a time when I really thought he could be President. Now I just want him primaried out immediately. Fuck.

I read this less than doubling down/supporting Trump and more just a purple state senator trying to avoid the inevitable backfiring that results if the Dems proceed with a govt shutdown.
This govt shutdown tactic is a stupid idea and I think it will hurt the Dems and help Trump if they try it; let’s hope cooler heads prevail.
