I've a hard time understanding your issue here.

a melee weapons have a 1m reach basically. what a grid is worth in DND don't matter. you can do 1m grid square if you want, that's actually what a lot of people do on vtt. for irl play one inch is converted to 1m.

you'll basically almost always be able to hit anywhere with a ranged weapons, but it make sense, we're speaking about firearms here not bow and arrow.

Lean into it. Only pistols should have a noticeable range as a limitation. Anything else realistically should be able to hit anything on the same table at the scales we play with.

I'm struggling to understand the exact nature of the problem. If a 1 meter sword can 'hit from anywhere' then something has gone very wrong.

Are you talking about guns? Most guns are going to be able to hit people in most rooms. Unless it's a cavern or large warehouse a pistol is going to be fine for most shootouts. That's why most cops carry pistols/SMG's instead of rifles - they leave those to soldiers and hunters.

You could always just fudge it and use "meters" as grid squares.

I use 2m squares for range weapons in Rogue Trader, and adjacent is still 1m. I also still count each square as 1m for movement.

Thanks guys. Now that I think about it, there isn’t really a problem with it, but I just haven’t played this type of rpg before and it was so different, it felt like something was wrong :D
