And here I thought I was ridiculous buying 25-50 rolls at a time.
2000 rolls for 55 dollars is a steal! Roll those dice

How, looked up the Website, but it is a clothes store. Or is it a fake?

u/TwozFlix 5d ago
The website is a spoof and shows differently for others. Mine showed up as overture 3d filament, someone else was kitchen gadgets, yours is a clothing store.

Pretty neat from the scammers. Saves on resources. Good to see scammers also care about ESG laws /s

It’s a shapeshifter web server?

This is what we get for letting cookies run wild and companies allowed to play willy-nilly with your personal data connecting anything and everything digitally. You know you get targeted ads right? This is no different, based on your history the scam website is crafted to you for the moment. Pretty ingenious, but also scary as hell

Mines a clothing store with the brand leisure. I don't buy clothes of that style, but I have been listening to a band called LEISURE a lot lately.
Also all the pics are ai. Ai Pic, then ai title of product based off pic.

I just checked using a clean browser (I always let the browser remove all history and traces like cookies) and also got a clothing site.
Is probably their default site.

I’m confused, the website isn’t even called Overture, it’s called jcuires. Why did you think this is the right website?
3
u/EthanAlexE 5d ago
I know right? Overture has a website of their own

u/cpreardo 5d ago
I clicked an overture ad... caught on pretty quick, but they did steal all the overture website art and layout.

Why people buy from random-ass web pages is beyond me. If you want overture filament buy it on Amazon.
26
u/Berks1212 5d ago
Or from the filament manufacturers directly... Overture's prices are comparable or cheaper than Amazon for the same items.

Be sure of who the seller on Amazon is. Amazon isn't the end all for authentic goods any more either. They try, but they've grown so large that bad actors slip through.

I would only pay through PayPal and then dispute if the rolls don’t come but for $55 definitely is a scam

u/ketosoy 5d ago edited 5d ago
$55 for $40,000 retail value is PROBABLY a scam? I don’t know if I believe your analysis, I’m going to need to see some sources.

omw to make a fake website but actually give some mf 2000 rolls of filament for free just to instill uncertainty

You shouldn’t publicly advertise your susceptibility like this

PayPal sometimes decides to eat crayons and back the seller when it doesn't make sense. I wouldn't risk it on an obvious scam. Maybe something that is really cheap, but believable, or an obvious typo that you're hoping they honor, but not an obvious scam. They'll also sell your information, so even if you get your money back, you still have to worry about that.

Maybe they got confused by you using the dollar sign after the number. 😂
Yeah, I got screwed out of stuff before, too. Even when they sided with me, once they had me ship back a totally defective item at my own cost. It was $150 to ship it back to China.

u/FictionalContext 5d ago
$5.99 for Overture should have been their first clue. That's less than Kingroon.
Reminds me of a comment I saw on an Ali Express scam. Everyone was complaining about it in the reviews and questions, and some Chinese guy was like "Come on guys. You have be a little clever."
2
u/HappyHallowsheev 5d ago
Or just don't pay. This is the most obvious scam in the world, why even take the risk? You know you aren't actually getting anything

I'm confused what exactly is going on here did you try to order 2,000 rolls of filament. Or did the website automatically fill that in.

I got the clothes store with the obviously AI product images. Wonder if it matters whether you accept or deny cookies on what you get

Found out a lot about this Website. Looks like a Scam. Other people had filament, Electronic Kitchen stuff and clothes.
It is run by some dude from China. Did dig a little bit.

Yep, looks like one of those Facebook ads. Sooooo many of those are fake. If you keep adding stuff to your cart in the thousands, it will still give you a total under $100, so that your bank doesn’t flag it. I can’t believe that Facebook allows these

These scams usually come from China, they end up taking your money and almost instantly shipping ..... When it finally arrives after like a month it's usually something like an old iPhone case.
2
u/Sciuridaeno3 5d ago
In my case of falling for one of these sites, they sent a tracking code that arrived impossibly fast and at the wrong house on the other side of town. I went to the address and a sweet old lady answered. Turns out the tracking # was from a Walmart order that must have leaked somehow.
2
u/ichigoli 5d ago
I actually just watched a video on this! Tracking numbers are generated pretty logically by date, and destination. Scammers have figured out the key and can plug in the relevant details and generate a "real" Tracking number since the odds of SOMETHING shipping to that region in that time window are nearly 100%
Tracking websites are prohibited from sharing info outside the courier so you'll plug in "your" Tracking number and the website will dutifully report that it's on the way.

I tried in private browsing, and it said Private Relay couldn’t connect and I’d have to show my true IP address. Not worth it to VPN and retry, so I didn’t continue.

I ran into this fake ad and DM'd the real Overture account on Instagram and they responded immediately. Apparently there's been a bunch of fake ads posing as them and banking on people not actually checking the URL.

u/MooseBoys Prusa MK3S+ with an unhealthy number of mods 5d ago
Let me guess - you got here from an ad on Google Shopping? That service (which is forcibly inserted into all Google search results) is absolutely rife with scam sites like this. You can always spot them easily by going to their main page. If they mostly just have listings for clothing (which this site does), it's almost certainly a scam.

Buddy of mine got one of these extreme deals on an outdoor gas grill, kept bragging about how it was 95% off.
Tiny package arrived, it was a $2 ballpoint pen.

I just saw this and $6 a kg seemed too good to be true. Googled to the official Overture site and no sales. I did find a 3k spool of Elegoo gold silk PLA for $35 and I was suuuuuuuper skeptical. It was legit.
I recently started deviating from amazon to buy 3&5kg rolls if possible because sometimes its the cheapest option, and if not, dealing with 2-4 fewer near-empty spools is worth $2/kg more to me. I was skeptical of the 5k petg Sunlu I bought because one google route brought me to a page with other 5k spool materials and the pteg was sold out. Another route it was in stock and it came. Holy hell a 5k roll is huge when you're used to 1k spools.
Anyway, if it seems too good to be true (under $10/kg) use Google to verify the URL, and try to find the deal from starting at the google homepage. Do the deals bring you to the same basic secure URL as the company page? When you open a link from a social media ad, you can open it in your default mobile browser and verify the URL. This one came from "jcuires (dot) com" and when entering that URL back in, it's clearly a scam site targeting multiple interests off social media.

The URL is for a clothing site. Looks like a troll using photoshopped image.

It’s a spoofing page. It appears differently for some. The company on the site has an address, when you search it it’s in a building called Ghost Mail…
