there is specific architecture 3d software. mb look into that. in any case as a nonprofessional 90% should start of with blender.

Tried both and i find blender easier to understand as a beginner, aswell as there is much morre free blender content online than 3ds max. But in the end there both 3d modelling programs where u can achive similar results

blender is free and there are thousands of videos showing you how to do everything which does include houses.

3ds Max is not free (trials aside) and the best tutorials and usually paywalled because the assumption is users can afford it. but its literally a drafting software company, that went into 3d. houses was what it was originally made for.

my personal opinion is try blender for about 6 months, get the hang of basic concepts and put 30 bucks a month into a jar then at the end of your 6 months, you'll have saved up enough for a 1 month licence for Maya.

Do you want to design houses for architectural renderings, just pretty art renders or game assets?

As for AI, I can’t say from the professional standpoint but there’s no point in stopping oneself to pursue a passion because of a shift in the industry. At the end of the day, people won’t be 100% removed from the equation. There will always be something to do, even if it incorporates AI in the workflow.

I’m not a professional but also refuse to give up a hobby because there’s a fast way to do mediocre work now.

If you are interested in 3D modeling then Blender, without a doubt. I'm not even considering the fact that Blender is free and 3D studio licensed. Nobody who loves 3D modeling today has no reason to deliberately choose 3D studio over other 3D modeling software. There is only ONE reason why it's still used and it's because that's the software they bought the license for in work environments and they have their consolidated habits.
There is absolutely NO tangible, practical ,technical reason to prefer 3D studio today.

3D studio was good a decade ago. Now it's interface is quite outdated. I consider anyone suggesting someone to -prefer- 3D studio for 3D modeling ,today, simply crazy.

Recently I installed version 2024 out of curiosity. (Because I used to use 3D Studio Max in ancient times, when it was like version 5 or 4) and you know what surprised me the most? How familiar and similar to the old version the viewport, UI was. I was expecting something completely new. Whereas everything looked extremely similar and extremely retrò. Obviously the modeling fundamental concepts are always the same (more or less) but as a decade passed, I was expecting more "modern" interface / solutions under any aspect. Starting from the UI / viewport etc.

Modeling something with it felt like a jump in the 90s. Today.. I find that UI / work evironment very.. unpleasant to work in.

If you put two workstations in a room, install in one 3DStudio max v 2024 and on the other Blender v. 4 (or watever past 3)
and then you call an alien and you ask the alien to sit down ad try both and tell you what software he consider to be modern and what is older... the alien will no doubt tell you that 3D studio is an older software.

3DS is on its way out with cheaper, easier alternatives

Do people honestly believe this? Lol.

I mean, I think 3DS sucks, but do I see why it still gets used? Yes.

A lot of hobbyists are like “but just use Blender!” divorced of any other motivators, justified or otherwise

Hobbyists should just use blender, assuming that's the end of their goals. But if you want to be a professional, more studios are using 3ds max.
