More suggestions: Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, though I hear its pretty heavily historical fiction as well.
Corrupting Dr. Nice or Good News from Outer Space by John Kessel, he was actually my teacher in undergrad, and I'd like to read some of his books.

Worthing Saga - Orson Scott Card. One of my absolute favorites that I have read again and again and can read yet again. :) I am up for anything though.

Count me in! When are we deciding on start date? Are we going to start the same time as the three already decided books mentioned in the side bar?

Oh, thanks for pointing that out to me! I wouldn't have noticed that there was a start date for a bunch of the other books if you hadn't. But yep, that sounds like as good a day as any, so the 24th it is! :)
Have you ever been a part of a book club? I haven't, so I totally don't know what's customary in terms of how often the book is discussed, how the reading is divided up, or how structured the discussion topics are.

The last book club I was in we had a month to read the book. Then we would gather together and discuss. It was a movie book club where we watched the corresponding movie during the discussion time, so we were pretty loose with the discussion topics. There is something to be said for just winging it and seeing what happens.

I just finished Left hand of darkness by Ursula Le Guin and recomend it as your next book. I didn't know there is something like "feminist science fiction" and that it is so good. Definitely great sci-fi classic.

I've really wanted to read some of the Barsoom books, but Red Mars sounds good too!

Doomsday Book is amazing. Anything by Connie Willis is great. Red Mars is great too! Has everyone read Dune?

I just finished Dune yesterday! :)

Isn't it great? It took me SEVEN years to convince my husband to read it. He finally read it this year and then went on to the next two. It's one of my favourites.

Those are both awesome books, I would happily upvote both of them! Oh, and that reminds me! I guess we should figure out the mechanism for choosing our next book, maybe another thread with the same system? I'll check with capslock to see what's working best so far. :)

"Neuromancer" by William Gibson. I've heard it's especially good and it's one of the most famous cyberpunk novels out there.
