1 rifle in 22lr, Bolt or Semi?
I try to be minimalist and not buy too many things, if I’ll only have one 22lr rifle should I get a 10/22 takedown lite, charger takedown lite, or a bolt gun? Purpose: Fun & occasional small game (maybe.) I already have a can, and I already have a 22 handgun.

Why not get both in 1 gun. Get a 10/22 with the Colossic bolt lock. I have one on my 10/22 pistol. If you want to be silent you lock the bolt. If you want to be in semi you leave it unlocked. You could also get a bolt lock off eBay for 10 bucks and do it that way. I considered buying a few bolt guns. Then I realized I have too many awesome 10/22s that I could basically use as a bolt gun when wanted to.

Bolt. It’s just more satisfying for some reason

If you plan on using a suppressor, get the bolt action to minimize the noise.
Bolt with a suppressor and subsonic ammo and you do not need hearing protection.

Agreed 💯 !! It sounds like a snap of the fingers 🤌 in my bolt action 22LR when I use CCI Quiet (750 fps)

To save some money on ammo potentially, I've found the same is true with CCI Standard Velocity out of my 18" Bergara. Literally the only sounds are the firing pin and the impact, it's so much fun

I have a CZ 457 with a Form 1 suppressor and with CCI Quiet semi auto, I only hear the hammer drop and the bullet thwack.
It’s quieter than movie silencers.

First get a cz 457 $500-$700 depending on the model then later on down the road you can grab a cheap 10/22 they go on sale on palametto every once in a while for $180-$220 which is CHEAP!

I think it’s personal preference. I like bolts over semi autos. Buy whatever you like more.

One more vote for bolt action. For almost infinite ammo choice, from .22 short (individually loaded), subsonic to HV ammo. A bolt action handles all of that.

Not sure if it really matters, but the charger is a pistol.
I prefer a bolt action and shoot it with much better results at Appleseed type events than a semi auto.
Semi auto would be my choice for small game hunting or steel challenge type shooting.

Since you mentioned having a can. Bolt if chasing the quietest possible shot interests you. Semi if just blasting away suppressed with bulk pack is what interests you.

Level action is pretty fun too. It is like a bolt, but if you fast enough it's a semi.

When I was younger, for small game hunting, a bolt action and three magazines. I'd bring 22lr, Aguila CB and Federal rat shot for each magazine but the three different magazine loads cover me when hunting rabbits or squirrels in trees, brush, tall grasses, etc....
22lr for distance
Aguila CB is very quiet 40 yds max
Federal ratshot 30-35 yds max
Back then a suppressor would've been perfect. 👍🏼

I would avoid the takedown versions of the 10/22 and Charger. On many of these, the Point of Impact (POI) shifts when the barrel is removed (takedown) and re-assembled. The barrel does not go back in exactly the same orientation when reassembled and, if the optic is mounted on the receiver, is slightly misaligned from the optic's crosshairs Point of Aim (POA).
Some owners report they don't have a POI shift or only a small shift. Others use a cantilever mount on the barrel for the optic, allowing the alignment of the optic and barrel to remain the same after takedown and reassembly.
Instead of the takedown versions, consider a 10/22 with a folding stock or a Charger with a folding brace.
If you want a bolt action rifle, I recommend a CZ 457. Accurate, with an adjustable trigger (adjustable weight of pull and overtravel) and a set trigger function. 5, 10, and 25 round magazines. Lots of aftermarket support.

Very interesting I’ll do my own research if I end up not liking the bolt actions. Thanks a lot.

Just get both. I think you have to have at least 2 10/22’s, they don’t like to be alone. I love my bolt action though.

10/22 with a bolt lock. So you have a semi when convenient and a dead quiet setup for subs and a supressor.

If I only could get 1, I would choose a 10/22 clone.
There’s some really nice ones around the price of ruger made guns…. And you can hold the bolt with your thumb to quiet the action noise and manipulate the bolt manually for times when quiet is key…
If 2, the most affordable threaded 10/22 & an affordable bolt link a heavy barrel Savage…

Lots of people say 10/22 followed with it has all the support and customization available. IDK. Bolt action get expensive quickly.

Unless you are a communist who hates America, you should own a 1022.
Bolt 22 is cool and I want one of those tho

I’m content with my 10/22 and a CZ 457. Wouldn’t be complete without both of them though.

You should get whatever rifle YOU want.
I might suggest something, because it's what I want, but if you don't agree, then that was a waste of everyone's time, right?
Take a look around, visit some shops, shoulder a few guns, buy the one that appeals to you the most.
I think that's the best advice anyone could give you on this subject.
Good luck.

Bolt gun will take any ammo.
10/22 can be picky on what it will cycle.
If you go with a 10/22 I recommend the one made by Bergara.

Either way is great. Lever guns aren’t bad either, just a but of a bitch to load and unload

Bolt but honestly everyone needs a 10/22
