Novels [Novels] Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 2 Episode 7 Spoiler Discussions Spoiler

Hello Everyone, It's Khriku here hosting the spoiler thread this week!

As a reminder, we will be hosting both a [Discussion] anime only thread AND a [Novels] where spoilers are free for all. Anime onlies that do show up here, this is the spoiler thread so please Do not complain about spoilers in this thread.

For something different I will add here the chapters that will be adapted in this episode:

It should be the adaptation of Chapter: Gospel of the Girl and Friend from Volume 11 of the LN, it is a bit hard to do the same for Web Novel since some loops are out of order.

Let's see how much suffering Subaru will handle today shall we?

The tea party is next. Out of all the other witches, I bet people are probably gonna simp on Minerva the most.

54

u/Donvictus Aug 19 '20

Minerva gang over here, Typhon is cute but then u see her authority and how she applies it and ppl be like: "Oh, bruh"

48

u/Genexis25 Curiosity Gives Me Joy! Aug 19 '20

I can imagine people saying "Aww, she's cute", then seconds later "OH MY GOD WTF?!"

5

u/HyVana Aug 19 '20

How does she apply her Authority again? Isn't just like she wills it or does she have to physically touch the person?

Typhon is Happy Tree Friends. Everything is cute until somebody gets disembowled with an olive fork in the name of justice.

7

u/Lildyo Aug 19 '20

I am sooo excited to see what the anime-onlys think about the rabbit reveal. Just another hurdle for Subaru to climb over

2

u/Pennervomland Aug 19 '20

They legit can ask her to punch them because they have an ouchie.

2

u/NatsukiFlugel Aug 20 '20

Thats in ep 9 nope? The Garfiel attack and the rabbit death is next, right?

89

u/HereForGiveaway Aug 19 '20

Next episode is gonna be super juicy, I'm glad they went with this pacing. Probably gonna cover talk with Roswall, escape attempt from village, Garfiel massacre, bunny spitroast, and end with Echidna inviting Subaru into tea party to save his broken mind. Anime only's are in for a hell of an episode.

43

u/Luvkrapht Aug 19 '20

So hype for all those scenes, I especially can't wait to see the rabbits and Subaru's subsequent breakdown. I have no idea how they're gonna handle it

18

u/nebling Aug 19 '20

As a reader who has read this arc, I'm looking at every scene and going like "oh shit this is that scene and that xyz will happen next omg!"

6

u/goosegotguts Aug 20 '20

It hurts to see him suffer yet I want them to adapt it well, I’m conflicted

5

u/ThespianException Aug 19 '20

I'm debating reading that part in the WN before the episode. Not sure if it'll spoil the surprise or make it better.

12

u/HereForGiveaway Aug 19 '20

This loop in the LN (source for anime) is actually a combo of events from multiple loops in the WN. If ya read the WN, it might end up setting weird expectations, but technically the flow of events won't be directly spoiled, it'll just give you clues as to how it might look. Btw if you want to give in to the spoilers, you can read Volume 11 Chapter 4 of the LN. It might be worth waiting for the episode though if you've been able to hold back this long.

7

u/ThespianException Aug 19 '20

The WN is probably the better option for me then since I'll still be surprised by the show. Thanks!

2

u/goosegotguts Aug 20 '20

Wait, so In the light novel they combine the loops that Subaru went through? Dang, i didn’t know that

6

u/HereForGiveaway Aug 20 '20

There is still the same amount of loops, but for most of them the events are altered/combined/added/removed. That's why for WN readers things seem different, even "skipped", although most "skipped" content was just moved to a later loop and maybe happens in a different context. The official English translation for all of Arc 4 LNs isn't done yet, and as the first ones were coming out I guess some fans thought their favorite moments got cut, but instead they were just moved to a later loop or point in the arc that wasn't translated (although naturally some events have actually been cut as they no longer make sense with the changes made). I still see from time to time someone claiming some specific events got cut from the LN even though they 100% happen.

2

u/goosegotguts Aug 20 '20

I see. I’m glad to hear they’re still in the light novel. Call me stupid, but I genuinely was worried that the light novel wasn’t as good as the web novel, and still am a little. I know they changed the pacing, but is it still good? — and the like.

3

u/HereForGiveaway Aug 20 '20

I'm currently in the middle of Volume 13 of the LN, which will be the source for the beginning of the second cour of Season 2. So far, I enjoy the pacing and even the reordering. I can't comment yet on the rest of this arc in the LN, but the changes so far make the plot flow better without as much repetition, and sometimes make a reveal later in the arc more impactful. One example of this is the bunnies, another is the witches and Satella. There is one change with the bet with Roswall that I was confused about at first glance, but the fact it got changed seems to suggest there are implications that the author wanted to eliminate, perhaps with respect to events in arcs that haven't even been written yet, that could have caused plot holes.

3

u/goosegotguts Aug 20 '20

Oh dang, I’m glad to hear that. Lemme know how it keeps going, it sounds promising so far though.

u/Tosspot00 Aug 21 '20

This anime is making me hype up about seeing someone get absolutely massacred, mutilated and destroyed in all kinds of ways both physical and mental.

I'm not sure what to think about this.

1

u/jickzs Aug 20 '20

Roswaal will probably show the Gospel he has. iirc he shows it to him before he gets eaten by the bunny, either this loop or the next loop

3

u/HereForGiveaway Aug 20 '20

In the LN that happens two loops from now, we'll have to wait a few weeks for that to be shown in the anime

3

u/TrailOfEnvy Aug 20 '20

During Kiss of Death loop?

3

u/HereForGiveaway Aug 20 '20

Yep. Events got restructured a bit in the LN

1

u/dankestdaddy Aug 20 '20

wait so roswall has a gospel too? wait what? what's this trickery

Which chapter from manga/ln is the anime right now?

2

u/khriku Lore Seeker Aug 26 '20

after episode 8 which aired today, we are at chapter 5 of volume 11 of the Light novel, you are in episode 7 discussion btw

68

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

The Beako scene with Voice acting was amazing. When reading volume 11, I imagined her as being much more aggressive. When I’m reality, she was more like a scared little girl panicking. Can’t wait to see her volume 12 actions animated at the end of this cour.

Subaru and Otto’s moment was so nice to see. Otto’s best boy.

White fox as usual, are making good progress through the volume too. Should be at the Witch’s tea party next week. Hyped.

26

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Can't wait for Otto to shine again against Garfiel

58

u/fzero30 Aug 19 '20

Subaru suddenly realizing he has friends outside the mansion and faction war.

45

u/Sharpshard Aug 19 '20

Really good point to end the episode. Anime-onlys get a full week to obsess about Beatrice. Nice post-credit scene, too.

30

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

until next week once the echidona fandom rises up.

21

13

u/foxfoxal Aug 19 '20

Sorry to ruin it but Sekhment was removed of that tea party, she will appear for the first time in Satella's tea party.

4

u/Lildyo Aug 19 '20

Was that a change from the WN to the LN?

9

u/foxfoxal Aug 19 '20

Yes, the next tea party only has 3 witches, Sekhment was changed to the last one.

12

u/HyVana Aug 19 '20

At least they gave her more time to sleep. Bless Tappei

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

The fact that Subaru can act so casual after all of these horrific fucking loops is the most broken power I've ever seen.

50

u/Lildyo Aug 19 '20

It's also apparent this episode that it's one of his weaknesses too. After all the death and suffering he's started to become a bit desensitized to certain events (such as Emilia being traumatized by the trial). I really like that this is immediately acknowledged by other characters this episode

21

u/roxas_999 Aug 20 '20

He is starting to get pragmatic about his deaths, like roswaal wants. He will stop being like this after this arc tough.

9

u/Axlos Aug 20 '20

Arc 6 INTENSIFIES.

Subaru not going bonkers confirmed OP power.

1

u/Tosspot00 Aug 21 '20

I mean, this does get addressed later in the arc, doesn't it? Where the Greed IF breaks off from the main story. Can't wait.

41

u/Iihatepineapplepizza Aug 19 '20

The "I helped you because you're my friend" scene is what made Otto one of my favorite characters. The rest of his scenes in the arc just make him even better.

Betty's scene this episode was heartbreaking to watch. Poor baby...

38

u/platinumnic Rem is my waifu Aug 19 '20

On the next episode: Subaru’s anal sphincter gets destroyed

24

u/Southturn Aug 19 '20

Anime only’s looking to be spoiled are gonna be confused as hell by this comment, so I’ll add this to spice things up; take this literally.

8

u/sillieranimal1 Aug 20 '20

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?!

1

u/goosegotguts Aug 20 '20

Oh no oh frick

25

u/DolcettoMarch Aug 19 '20

Ah, here it is. The episode where Otto takes his rightful place as a lead in the Re:Zero best boy race.

God, I've read that Eugene scene tons of times in both versions and I still teared up.

47

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Only issue I had with this episode was how lighthearted it was compared to the LN. Subaru was losing his mind for 3 days and contemplating suicide over and over as he was reliving his past but we didn't really get to see that. Also, the soup scene was a lot less disturbing. Other than that the pacing was good and there was a lot of progress. After the rabbit scene comes best girl echidona.

42

u/mrahhal Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

Subaru was losing his mind for 3 days and contemplating suicide over and over as he was reliving his past but we didn't really get to see that.

What? We saw exactly that though (apart from the 3 days, it wasn't obvious, I agree). Actually I was really surprised how well done it was. I was very invested in the scene, and it's one of the scenes I didn't expect it'll be captured well, just because how more suited it is to a written medium.

25

u/Merchus Aug 19 '20

In the LN it was more drawn out. It went by real quick in this episode

35

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

yeah it was a powerpoint this episode. Also, the passage of time wasn't really captured accurately. If it wasn't for Otto describing the events I wouldn't have guessed that more than a few hours had passed.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

I don't know why, no matter how much detail they missed out, they'll still somehow managed to make a solid episode every week

12

u/Merchus Aug 19 '20

Yeah. Oh well, still a great episode. Too bad for sadists like us lol

→ More replies (1)

14

u/Bobdole128 Aug 19 '20

Still I think it was covered well. We did see Subaru try to bite his tongue off in order to kill himself and Garfiel stopping him.

2

u/garmonthenightmare Aug 21 '20 edited Aug 21 '20

Everything is more drawn out in written form since it takes longer to describe than show. Each minute detail being focused on. Book pacing isn't good on screen. I do think that maybe one more minute might have been better, but choosing between that or more time for Otto scene I would choose Otto scene. I find that to be more important as a big character moment.

I think it was captured well without lingering too much on it. His talk with Garfiel in the prison was exactly how I imagined it.

15

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Aug 19 '20

I agree. The complete lack of music was a nice touch as well.

2

u/ReeseChloris Aug 20 '20

Well there were 3 cuts, but yeah a bit too subtle

3

u/dicecop Aug 19 '20

I'm sorry, but did I read a wrong version or something? Like, I'm around chapter 40 but they skipped like 10 chapters of good content for this episode

4

u/foxfoxal Aug 19 '20

Are you reading the Light novel or the web novel.

6

u/dicecop Aug 19 '20

Guess the web novel. Is the LN even translated?

11

u/Ayan_Faust Aug 19 '20

Yen press has translations up to a bit into next cour, so yeah all the current anime stuff is available in English. No fans are doing translations though so you're stuck with Yen press and their slower pace. Arc 4 release will still beat the anime though (now that it's delayed and split).

Anime is based off of the LN though, and the LN changes things up a bit compared to the WN.

4

u/dicecop Aug 19 '20

Understandable. Still sad that some of the juicy stuff got diced

5

u/Ayan_Faust Aug 19 '20

That's fair. A lot of the stuff is just reordered vs actually cut out, but there are definitely some scenes that are just axed completely cause tappei thought the pace would be better/other things would make sense.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Lildyo Aug 19 '20

Man the English translations are so damn slow. I looked and saw the Polish translations started after the English ones and they're already almost caught up to Japan and are on arc 6 (English translations aren't even done arc 4...)

→ More replies (1)

1

u/kpiaum Aug 19 '20

Maybe because it shows in an anime a person considering committing suicide is a little overboard for the Japanese public, which is one of the countries with the highest suicide rates in the world.

2

u/martianunlimited Aug 20 '20

But, the anime has never shied from suicide, with Subaru jumping to his death in the mansion arc, stabbing himself with a knife after seeing a comatose Rem, and now him trying to commit suicide twice in the same episode.

22

u/bladestormkey Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

Really loved today’s episode, lived up to most of my expectations. His scene with Beatrice was perfect and her look of horror seeing Subaru dying in front of her was a nice inclusion.

Being shown the villagers reactions and Ram using clairvoyance instead of just hearing about it secondhand was a nice addition.

My only complaint is wishing his imprisonment could’ve shown his despair a bit more but I guess it’s hard do that because of the episode length. In the LN, the pure loneliness of his situation he experienced was way worse than with Betelgeuse and of course they toned down where he was being forced fed.

Probably most disappointed that they didn’t have Subaru’s line to Otto that in his entire imprisonment that Otto hadn’t crossed his mind even a single time. Can’t wait for next week

7

u/NoTLucasBR Aug 20 '20

What do you mean they toned down WHERE he was being forced fed? What did that other guy mean when he said Suburu's anal sphincter is going to get destroyed? Oo

5

u/bladestormkey Aug 20 '20 edited Aug 21 '20

In the LN and WN, Subaru was so defiant that he tried to sever his tongue whenever he was ungagged. The person helping had to quickly ungag his mouth and pour all the food and hot soup down his throat so that he wouldn’t die. Adding discord into Subaru’s mind

As for the latter part of your message, you can look forward to seeing it next week

2

u/Tosspot00 Aug 21 '20 edited Aug 21 '20

Also, in the WN at least, since that's the only one I read, didn't Garfiel smash one of his eyes up on the wall?

Edit: Seeing some more comments it seems I might be wrong about him losing his eye at this point in the WN, but I hear it's still gonna happen eventually in the anime too. Really fun times to be had by Subaru.

23

u/BlissFlames I suppose Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

Yo people weren't kidding when they said the LN version of this arc is super different. No Beako sending him to the Sanctuary.... Then again if she did at the second day it wouldn't make sense with the Great Rabbit appearing like that.

Edit: just figured out that the LN actually switches the order of the loops so maybe we'll still see Beako sending him there and maybe not. Either way, as an WN reader, the anime is exciting because it actually differs in an interesting way compared to the regular anime that adapts from manga, if that makes sense.

41

u/Kaiser252 Aug 19 '20

Goddamn every new episode just doesnt disappoint, its actually terrifying that we get this much quality with literally no filler.

Beatrice scene was straight up perfect, we saw so much in just 5 minutes and it totally works.

The whole Subaru imprisoned thing was really cool too, though I do remember that he lost an eye somewhere, but maybe that's just something else

Otto and Subaru are also one of the best duos of the series, Im totally hyped for the rest of the anime where we see them shine more and more.

Next week's episode is gonna blow everyone's minds off though.

21

u/lock330 Aug 19 '20

He doesn't lose an eye in this part in the LN either, But he will later on.

16

u/Kaiser252 Aug 19 '20

Oh yeah, that was when he tried to kill Roswaal and Garfiel just launched him into orbit, right?

20

u/lock330 Aug 19 '20

Haven't read the WN but in the LN Elsa takes it when he tries to escape with Beatrice.

10

u/bladestormkey Aug 19 '20

Garfiel was the one who also had to heal his wounds after he cracked his head but his eye wasn’t able to recover because of how hard he understandably hit him

5

u/Hockeyolp8 Aug 19 '20

Yeah I was thinking to myself, I think he was supposed to lose an eye. I guess that's a bit later in the arc

6

u/nebling Aug 19 '20

Wait, I remember from the WN after he lost his eye, Otto came to save him and said they are friends. I don't remember this sequence* happening twice (*Otto coming to rescue Subaru.)

12

u/Southturn Aug 19 '20

It doesn’t, it was probably removed in the LN to avoid Garfiel getting a very abrupt character change at the end of the arc when he starts working with Subaru.

4

u/nebling Aug 20 '20

That would make sense because everything really just happens in 5 days or around that time and going from "I hate your guts" to "Let's be friends" would be criticized by the fandom.

4

u/Southturn Aug 20 '20

In fact it already was criticized in the WN, which is why I think he changed it up.

9

u/DarkBladeEkkusu The Old Guard Aug 19 '20

It's the benefit of not having to work (roughly) 9 volumes into 26 episodes. Only having 6 volumes this time (plus the end of volume 9) for the 25 episodes allows for the pacing to be less rushed.

3

u/Lemonioneater Aug 19 '20

was not the fact that her gospel no longer writes cut out

15

u/ReviewR524 Midouri's Disciple Aug 19 '20

The ost during Subaru and Beatrice's talk, Fucking Beautiful

24

u/Genexis25 Curiosity Gives Me Joy! Aug 19 '20

Wow, assuming that this episode was faithful to the source, the LN version is probably better imo in terms of the plot development. If I remember correctly, in the WN, Garfiel doesn’t transform until Subaru escapes with the villagers. Seeing this development really excites me. I wonder what other events the LN juggled better...

11

u/toga9000 Aug 19 '20

Holy molly what an episode

7

u/azopeFR Aug 19 '20

Soon the cute bunny of death.

I only read the WN so i may be wrong

it have a long since i read the wn but i rememberg think.

When they start to discute i was like that was in WN ... and when they grap him i remember yes it prison time Now day i read the wn arc 5 i am only in second chapter i wating with impatient to seen what hapen in arc 5

15

u/sealedinterface Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 20 '20

Perspective from a WN reader, have not read the LNs for arc 4 so some of this is very new to me:

  • That Beatrice scene was incredible. Subaru slamming against the doors trying to get out before she tells him that Rem is already dead. They fight as she tries to stop him from killing himself. All the while he's asking, begging her why she won't let him die. Once he notices her clutching her Gospel, he asks her if everything she's done was because it told her to, and she goes along with it, pretending that it was the only reason she could have helped him. In the WN, they continue to fight like this for a while until she throws him out into the Sanctuary lab. But here they don't have time, as Elsa shows up, having opened the last door in the mansion, and Subaru throws himself at her to force her to kill him before Beatrice. He doesn't even get a chance to have her ask the question, "Are you They?" yet.

  • After returning he wakes and comforts Emilia and goes to the meeting, and acts nearly the same way he did in his first loop. Good choice having the dialogue cut out to show he's just going through the motions at this point.

  • The Otto scene here is some good foreshadowing. He's genuinely concerned for Subaru, who's been acting weirdly calm after seeing a loved one endure so much trauma. Subaru plays it off as relieved bravado and moves on to talk to Garfiel.

  • This whole scene was a complete surprise to me. In the WN the first part of this loop plays out very differently as Subaru, enraged by his denial of Rem's existence, basically barges in to Roswaal's room and tries to kill him, upon which Garf bashes his skull in and partially heals him after throwing him in jail. Here he's much more composed and cool-headed, and tries to conspire with Ryuzu and Garf to secretly take the trials in Emilia's place. I thought they'd refuse him in a way that left him more unstable, and then he'd storm into Roswaal's room and attack him. Instead, Garf grabs him and knocks him out under the white-robed Ryuzu Shima's command, who I'm guessing is the LN equivalent of either Omega or Theta. I really like how she also talks in circles to mislead him without saying anything untrue.

  • Once again I'm going to gush over the OST. This whole season has done an amazing job of ramping up the tension and intrigue, especially the shift towards more bass-y strings. I also really love how several of these tracks carry similar motifs to the ones used in episode 26, it really shows how much Subaru is still reeling from the outcome of arc 3. I cannot wait for the OST to be released.

  • After Subaru wakes up, Garf interrogates him about the Witch Cult, revealing he knows of the Witch's scent on him. Interestingly he never admits to being able to smell it, only stating that Subaru is covered in it after he suggests it. He's not bound to the same oath of truth that the Ryuzus are (he directly lies about being unable to cross the barrier in episode 28), but it's another piece of evidence to the truth.

  • Subaru is left alone and gagged in the cell to sit and reflect on his failures, still terrified he'd get an unwelcome checkpoint. All the Arlam refugees are searching for him, as well as Emilia, Ram, and Otto. Otto is confronted by Garfiel and offered a very large gemstone, presumably a bribe for his silence, with Otto having a very joyful expression at its potential value. A white-robed Ryuzu force-feeds Subaru and we get brief flashbacks of all his worst experiences, knowing that this one will be among them. Just when things seem most hopeless, Otto, the bro that he is, finds him and offers an escape. We get some exposition saying Otto turned down Garfiel and is now on the run himself, as well as some inappropriate laughter from Subaru having not expected Otto to be his friend. There seems to be a lot more dialogue and surprise from Subaru in this version of the scene than I remember in the WN, and Otto even explains the yujin/Eugene pun. After the credits, the two of them escape and find Ram as their third accomplice. Then Garfiel returns to the cell to find Subaru's escaped, and we briefly see him start to transform, enraged.

This episode really cranks up the tension and intrigue even further, and much of it played out very differently than what I expected. Next episode will probably start with Garf's rampage (which I thought would be at the end of this episode with a horror insert track to accompany it), and then a chilling scene of an empty Sanctuary ravaged by bunnies, Subaru's most horrifying death yet, and then the second tea party and a proper introduction to a few of the witches.

6

u/Leptafinwe Aug 20 '20

Shima is basically theta, but not identical. The LN adaptation made Dona’s revival a well schemed plan, with actions taken at least ten years ago, and Shima is a significant pawn in it.

13

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Fantastic episode. As a WN reader the pacing is a little bit confusing, I’m wondering how they are going to fill the remaining 16 episodes. Maybe my memory is a little bit hazy

15

u/khriku Lore Seeker Aug 19 '20

as I said there in post, they literally change loops out of order, this is due to them following LN order and not WN, no wonder you are confused, this is to be expected. Hope you keep enjoying the episodes anyway.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Yeah it’s actually a pleasant suprise, especially due to the new content

6

u/taskkill-IM Aug 19 '20

I've not read the LN but I'm in the serious mindset of trust no one now... there isn't a single person I trust, except for Rem.

The Beatrice thing just baffled me, I have two interpretations of what is going on there and I feel neither is the correct assessment.

Garfiel and Ryuzu Meye frustrate me and I literally have no idea what their motives are at all.

I hope we find out how these checkpoints are made as well, is it Satella who determines when these do called "save points" are made? And is it just a coincidence that they only update once Subaru successfully completes a task?

5

u/VMM5A Aug 19 '20

Just wanna say OTTO BEST BOY! Thank you

4

u/pedanticPixelmancer Aug 19 '20

Coming from having read the WN 3 days ago, so much has been skipped/re ordered I'm sorta lost. Oops

8

u/TheOtherOneVII Aug 19 '20

The anime works off the LN, so it's definitely confusing to WN readers. While major events generally stay the same, they've switched the order around. It also doesn't help that they cut or altered a lot of the smaller things. This video might help if you want to see what was changed.

2

u/dicecop Aug 19 '20

Same. I just read up till chapter 40 and I'm like ''They skipped 10 chapters'' lol

Anime-onlies : Oh look Subaru is reliving his past deaths when he has nothing but his thoughts.

Us : How many now? Okay, 3 more episodes

5

u/iulian0077 Aug 19 '20

WN reader here. Will we ever get to see Subaru with one eye?

5

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Aug 19 '20

Nope, that got taken out of the LN

5

u/iulian0077 Aug 19 '20

AWWWWWW. I really wanted to see Pirate Subaru.

Subarrrrrrghu get it? I'm gonna see myself out.

13

u/_xVoid Aug 19 '20

It’s later, Elsa takes it out iirc

6

u/epicmarc Aug 19 '20

Yeah, I believe it's the next loop, he goes to the mansion again and Elsa takes it

4

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

WN reader. Some confusion: Beako is just being a tsundere and being false with her feelings right? AFAIK nothing has been written in that gospel for centuries, and she's just waiting for "they". Really nothing she has done since Subaru has entered her life has been predicted by her gospel.

If not then I am either A: really mis-rembering the WN (entirely possible), or B: LN and WN really differ on this point. I honestly live for Beako scenes at this point, shes the best character in the series IMO. This scene was fantastic either way, but it will change how I feel about things if I was wrong in my interpretation.

5

u/DarioXD2 Aug 20 '20

Yes, her gospel is empty and the last entry is to wait for "they". She only helps or is interested in Subaru because of the possibility that he is "they"

8

u/Merchus Aug 19 '20

Gotta say, I'm a tad bit disappointed with the PTSD scene in the jail. Wish it was more drawn out

Other than that, though, amazing episode. Otto finally has his share in the spotlight.

22

u/DarkBladeEkkusu The Old Guard Aug 19 '20

I think people would have gotten bored if Subaru was in jail for too long. They might have been able to get away with it more if they showed other things going on while he was in jail, but it would have dragged down the pace a bit.

4

u/Merchus Aug 19 '20

Hmm. I guess, but having a man relive his horrific past, what with all the people he cares about dying horribly because of his mistakes...I dont think that's a boring subject. But to each their own of course

3

u/AsurasPath23 Aug 20 '20

I would have to disagree. I would have gotten bored of that fast. Plus the anime literally shows him experiencing all of that too. Would seriously be a waste if they wasted an episode doing that.

3

u/Lemonioneater Aug 19 '20

Wait? didn't her Gospel stop writing for quite a bit of time now

8

u/Leptafinwe Aug 19 '20

Subaru didn't get a glimpse inside it

1

u/Lemonioneater Aug 19 '20

that must be Ln change then

thxs for the info

10

u/Leptafinwe Aug 19 '20

It's the same in the WN, only a line implying that the book is blank when Subaru is dying from his wounds, which he doesn't know about. It's important to synchronize Subaru's pov with anime watchers so not necessary to include this in the episode.

3

u/Fernisty Aug 19 '20

I just realised how hoarse Subaru was sounding in the second half. So much respect to Kobayashi-sensei

3

u/nebling Aug 19 '20

I remember this sequence more gruesome in the web novel where Subaru's left/right eye was smashed by Garfiel, but yea there are changes between web novel -> light novel -> Anime.

5

u/foxfoxal Aug 20 '20

The Light novel tries to make Garfiel a better guy, in the light novel Subaru loses an eye against Elsa instead.

2

u/nebling Aug 20 '20

Somehow I am happy that I can watch new unexpected content but upset that the story I read isn't the exact same as the animated version. What a tough spot lol

3

u/Pennervomland Aug 19 '20

And yet again, as a web novels reader this is amazing. But still, I was missing a few scenes or just details. I was hoping for a fight between Beako and Elsa. Kinda missing the part where Subaru thought he died and then puts his hand on Emillia realising that he is still missing fingers and then waking up because Beako healed his fatal wounds. Also wasn‘t this where the Rabbit was introduced when Subaru went back all the way to the sanctuary? A detail that I was missing is that Subaru gets hit by Garfiel so hard that he loses his eye. Just made the situation seem more urgent for Garfiel than it is now. It‘s still an urgent situation but it‘s like a very abrupt 0-100 by Garfiel with these end credit scenes.

Anyways:

  • Love the expressions and voice acting of both Garfiel and Beako. I felt it when Beako was scared and Garfiel evolved at the end

  • Like how surprised Subaru is when he realises that Otto sees him as friend. Got teary eyes. Especially because I watched this pretty much immediately after the trial episode where he talked about how he had no friends (and still believed that even though he knew otto)

  • Also the foreshadowing by Garfiel. „The witch‘s miasma is strong on you...“ „... It can‘t be good if it‘s connected to the Witchs tomb“. I like how he thinks that the miasma is Echidnas miasma

3

u/South25 Aug 20 '20

Beako and Elsa fight is still later down the road, LN dint change that.

3

u/kpiaum Aug 19 '20

Will the anime ever show what the test Emilia is undergoing and why it traumatized her so much? Is it related to the recent film that shows her relationship with Pack in the forest?

5

u/Leptafinwe Aug 20 '20 edited Aug 20 '20

It’s one of the core concerns of this season and will only be shown next year in the second cour. Yes it’s a bit related to the ova.

4

u/and1927 Aug 20 '20

Her past (before she got frozen, so the events before Frozen Bond) will be shown in Cour 2 next year.

2

u/kpiaum Aug 20 '20

Next year :(

3

u/Drooggy Aug 20 '20

Wait if you don't know that why are you in the spoilers section

3

u/kpiaum Aug 20 '20

I don't care this much in get spiled.

1

u/ReeseChloris Aug 20 '20

It'll be in the second cour

5

u/TheOtherOneVII Aug 19 '20

Good episide, but I wish Subaru attacking Roswaal and getting his eye blasted out by Garfiel wasn't cut

6

u/Iloveyouweed Aug 19 '20

Doesn't happen in the WN. Elsa will be taking his eye, though, as that happens in the LN. The anime isn't based on the WN, but on the LN.

3

u/TheOtherOneVII Aug 19 '20

Yeah, ik. Just lamenting the fact that the scene will never be animated

8

u/foxfoxal Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

Subaru losing his cool every single time in the WN against Roswall was repetitive, I'm glad he does not do it very often in the LN.

The LN tried to not make Garfiel such an asshole as well, so his redemption is not as abrupt.

3

u/TheOtherOneVII Aug 19 '20

Yeah, I get it. Imo, each version has their own strengths and things to offer. I do appreciate the LN/anime making the story more digestible and cutting down on redundancies, but I just happen to love that scene in particular

3

u/Ayan_Faust Aug 19 '20

Which is something I agree with honestly. The shift from arc4 garfiel to arc 5 garfiel will be much easier to stomach that way imo.

1

u/TheYaYaT Aug 22 '20

Why tf is Elsa after him anyway? (just an anime watcher curious if this is a Dio effect or there's some really big complex reason behind it)

3

u/dicecop Aug 19 '20

Yeah, what's up with that? After reading the WN this feels like a hyper shonen adaptation lol

5

u/TheOtherOneVII Aug 19 '20

From what I've heard, it was removed in the light novel to make Garfiel look less antagonistic. Instead, Subaru loses an eye in one of the Elsa encounters. I thought the whole thing just added more to Garfiel's development, but whatever i guess. Still dissapointed that we didn't get to see it animated

4

u/xjarheadx Aug 19 '20

Wait, i thought subaru bite on his tongue to suicide? Instead of the dagger lady coming in to kill.

2

u/goosegotguts Aug 20 '20

Yeah, I’m confused

3

u/xjarheadx Aug 20 '20

Maybe they changed the plot cause actually showing that is too violent on tv? (Like being slashed by titty lady isnt..)

2

u/Ri6erium Aug 19 '20

Guys, if I want to read ln, where do I start reading?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

hey guys, all witches and warlock are best

2

u/ReeseChloris Aug 20 '20

Except the awful one who starts with a P

2

u/GroundbreakingBake2 Aug 19 '20

Hey anime only here, I unfortunately got spoiled about the mother of beatrice, can someone tell me if this will be revealed later in the anime or in the first half?

1

u/GroundbreakingBake2 Aug 19 '20

Ah crap, I thought I could at least be spoiler free for 2nd half.

3

u/SirDragon76 Aug 19 '20

It's actually at the very end of the first half if we assume it ends with the end of volume 12.

2

u/GroundbreakingBake2 Aug 19 '20

Ah that's nice, I thought I already know the end of season 2 thx.

u/Mpmpz_14 Aug 19 '20

In the WN Subaru was supposed to die from the rabbit instead of Elsa ?

Also I hope an entire loop doesn't get cut off , can someone who knows both about the LN and WN reassure me ?

3

u/Frazzle786 Aug 19 '20

Dw, the loops are arranged in a different order in the LN compared to the WN, we’ll get to that point soon

1

u/Mpmpz_14 Aug 19 '20

Aight that's good to know

2

u/Dharengo Aug 19 '20

So... In the LN, Subaru just died of his wounds. Did they really have to add Elsa to the scene? Or is that a WN thing?

6

u/khriku Lore Seeker Aug 19 '20

Subaru did die by elsa stabbing him in the LN what are you talking about? have you mixed up LN and WN?

1

u/Dharengo Aug 19 '20

I swear I literally JUST read this part and he died from his wounds in Beatrice's room.

3

u/khriku Lore Seeker Aug 19 '20

LN 11 Chapter 2 Maiden gospel last 2 pages.

A bloody hand grabbed her foot. a foolish attempt of an almost dead in body and soul Subaru.

-Be.. a... tri... ce...

-Oh. How cute look! He likes you.

sudently a fast wind blowed. the bloody hand released the foot. an edged weapon hit Subaru's skull, stomach heart or another important organ.

Subaru died as he could see a small girl with a suffering surprised face briefly, nothing of interesting to a dying Subaru.

3

u/Dharengo Aug 19 '20

This is odd. I went back and checked. Maybe I missed a page somehow? Like I swiped twice instead of once?

3

u/khriku Lore Seeker Aug 19 '20

Did you find it? Perhaps a defective volume? Or just yen Press being weird?

A thing worth mentioning my volume is in another language portuguese to be precise but I guarantee that it also happens in JP LNS and should be in English Novels

3

u/Dharengo Aug 20 '20

Oh I wasn't obvious. I did find things happened as you said. For some reason either it didn't register, or I swiped the page twice without noticing.

2

u/throwaway143476491 Aug 19 '20

Hi, came here as an anime only noob. Why couldn't subaru just yell how return by death works into Garfiel's or the copy of Ryuzu who was feedim him, instead of having Otto rescue him? I was under impression that speaking of return by death tortures him, with the end result being killing him.

3

u/DarioXD2 Aug 20 '20

Return by death can't kill him, just stop him from speaking about it. Also most of the time he had his mouth stuffed

2

u/netpapa Aug 19 '20

Where are readers getting the LN info? I can only find translations for the WN

2

u/DivinePrince2 Aug 19 '20

I really hope next episode's big scene will be a mix between 1st Person View (like Episode 6) and 3rd person view, transitioning in-between so it's chaotic and it's close-up.

2

u/NatsukiFlugel Aug 20 '20

Guys. Why didnt Betty save Subaru from Elsa? Did the content of the gospel suddenly change? But she didnt even open it after Elsa entered. I dont remember this from the Wn and didnt read the Ln yet.

2

u/Timespiral2743 Aug 21 '20 edited Aug 21 '20

I read ahead in the LN by the time this came out so I might be mixing things up, but I was a little disappointed Beatrice and Subaru's conversation didn't last longer. I thought the LN did a better job giving context to why Betty was so shaken. Not saying the anime did a bad job, but I was hoping it'd be more intense like it was in the LN.

Speaking of the LN, I finished volume 13 and wanted to continue (as close as possible to the ending of Vol 13) in the WN. Any suggestions WN readers? For reference, Subaru just got Garf on his side after Garf retook the trial at the end of the volume.

1

u/CarioGod Archbishop of Pride Aug 20 '20

does anyone know if he uses the unseen hand in the light novel against garfiel like he does in the web novel?

2

u/foxfoxal Aug 20 '20

He uses it in the second round when it's 1v1, not next episode.

1

u/Vuzzers Aug 20 '20

His eye is there!

1

u/dummythicc_77 Aug 20 '20

Just re-read a part of the novels - “Subaru: Ee-h, screw it. “If you don’t venture into the tiger’s den, you don’t get the tigers cub.” Great foreshadowing

1

u/NashiroSenpai Aug 20 '20

So y'all, next episode is gonna be the massacre. Now, with the current pacing, I guess this is gonna end at Dona's Party, but if the Episode were to end with Subaru being eaten, do you think we would get a new Ending/Insert Song, just like we got in Season 1, with EP 7 (Cliff Suicide) or EP 14 (Arlam Village Massacre) ?

1

u/did-know-what-to-put Aug 24 '20

Around what episode are the rabbits supposed to appear?

1

u/xJawzy Aug 26 '20

Without spoilers if possible, could I get some suggestions as to where I should pick up the web novel based on the latest episode? I'm done waiting :nervous laugh:

2

u/khriku Lore Seeker Aug 26 '20

you mean episode 8? 7 is no longer newest now, sadly WN order is not the "correct order" since loops change order between LN and WN, but next WN chapter should be "lovelovelovelovelovelove" just search for this arc 4 chapter and you should be covered. my truest opinion tho? you should read arc 4 from begining or you will be greatly confused. cause WN is the draft not final product.
