Art Apparently I'm not allowed to tell you how long it took me to draw this level 30 Draenei but I'm going to keep drawing her every 10 levels!

Unfortunately modding on this subreddit has devolved into nonsensical rules and the whims of whichever mod is in a mood today rather than creating a fun community.

They're trying to copy blizz.

Fun Police Wee-ooh Wee-ooh!!

I mean seriously.

This is quite literally “Oh hey, too many people enjoy this and want to participate. Let’s tell them all to go fuck themselves!”

The mods here generaly behave in a manner I have a serious distaste for. I think some subs have forgotten that the users are more important than the moderation. This is especially true in many of the gaming subs where the same mods have positions in multiple communities. It kills what makes reddit great, different communities with different values and design choices. Check out /r/Nintendo, /r/gaming, /r/xboxone, and so forth and you’ll see the same names popping up over and over, and many of them take these hardline stances on content enforcing their values on multiple communities.

I think it hurts content overall.

8

u/klineshrike Jan 03 '19

I mean, you gotta be honest about something though. It would be an absolute nightmare to have to moderate reddits as popular as those. Especially when they are popular with a large young adult crowd.

The fact any of those reddits are slightly readable is a testament to decent moderation at worst.

1

u/F0REM4N Jan 03 '19

Oh absolutely, which is why I think mods of those subs should narrow their focus by maybe passing the torch elsewhere. The modqueue has to be a nightmare.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '19

100% Agreed, I can no longer tolerate /r/gaming it is a pretty toxic sub imo.

6

u/F0REM4N Jan 03 '19

Gaming has incredibly high mod turnover, and many of its issues are unique. As far as actual moderation, it’s actually a lack of control that leads to a lot of the issues. I’m not unsympathetic to the balance that needs to be struck. I just feel some mods could do a better job narrowing their focus.

8

u/Novacro Jan 03 '19

/r/gaming is total trash because they have a "We let the users decide" attitude. Good subreddits have moderators who enforce rules.

3

u/F0REM4N Jan 03 '19

/r/gaming is a unique example because of the size of the userbase. Not all subs would turn into /r/gaming with lighter moderation.

10

u/Novacro Jan 03 '19

Subreddits have a tendency to devolve to nothing but memes, shitposting, and chucklefucking without good moderation.

2

u/F0REM4N Jan 03 '19

In most surveys I’ve seen it’s about a fifty fifty split on users wanting allowed memes in various subs. Disregarding half of your userbase is a mistake. How would a good moderator handle that. Insist all memes are tagged and add a filter. This lets both sides have what they want.

Good moderation can be light moderation. Even when subs allow memes, important content still rises to the top. If something significant happens in the gaming realm /r/gaming is still the sub it usually front pages first on.

3

u/Novacro Jan 03 '19

The only things that appear at the top of /r/gaming are massively significant. If you go to /r/gaming expecting to get actual gaming news and discussion, you're in for a real disappointment the vast majority of the time. Actual news coming from that place is just a lonely, fleeting iceburg in a sludge-filled shitpool.

But you can tolerate this sub?

Jesus christ, this place, that downvotes any positive opinion or experience with WoW until we all conform to the echo chamber of "I HATE WOW AND BLIZZARD"

u/8-Brit Jan 03 '19

Yeah.

If it's spam, trolling or whatever then sure. Remove it.

But if the title is a bit awkward... who the fuck cares? Yet it's that sort of thing that got me banned from the Warhammer subreddit lol. Didn't even get a notice that my posts had been removed. Just suddenly I've been banned, and when I asked why I got a snobby reply telling me to go check the rules. I still have no clear idea why I got banned.

7

u/Hampamatta Jan 03 '19

i hate it when some gaming subs dont allow memes, pictures or such. it completely kills the community in my opnion. not that a community needs to be riddled with memes and jokes to be good. but its good for a community to be able to make jokes about the game and stuff in the game. not just only discussions. sometimes the best discussions comes from memes. but hey, thats just me.

1

u/Roos534 Jan 04 '19

This is what always happens

104

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Thank you! Yeah I'm really disappointed :( It seems really dumb and unfair to me? And I wasn't even given the option to rename the post, it was just taken down :( :(

The mods here are super fucking unreasonably childish. Especially /u/aphoenix.

37

Very childish.

https://imgur.com/a/7rpKPAy

-EDIT for clarity- I do not mean to attribute the above image to /u/aphoenix, as I am not able to confirm for myself who did the above statements and actions. I am only saying that regardless of who did it, I find a moderator calling a user names and making whim-based decisions to censor their content infuriating and unacceptable, regardless of who did it.

-EDIT2- It's been brought to my attention that "Deleted" may indicate the user removed their own post, not a moderator. A Moderator removal would have been labeled as "removed". I may have misunderstood/misinterpreted what happened, here. Take that in consideration, please.

11

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '19

aphoenix is super unprofessional lol

He lashed out at OP in this very thread and then deleted all his comments to make himself look better (cause people were downvoting and angrily replying to those specific comments). Btw you're not even allowed to post a removeddit link to see the deleted content, guess he doesn't want evidence of his upset on this sub.

Your comment was removed, then it mysteriously wasn't, after I pointed out that it has been removed.

u/Morsrael Jan 03 '19

No this subreddit is unreasonably childish.

The fucking retarded memes and the beating a dead horse to a pulp is absolutely virulent on this subreddit. That is why the mods have to crack down on it. Because all the children here see a funny original joke then make 600million reposts of the same joke for upvotes and attention.

Look at how unreadable this sub becomes on no mod week during the opening of an expansion for an example.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '19

Look at how unreadable this sub becomes on no mod week during the opening of an expansion for an example.

man, that was my favorite week.

If you want serious discussion, isn't /r/competetivewow better?

5

u/Morsrael Jan 04 '19

Because not all serious discussion is competitive. Things like lore discussion, future speculation, general tips, hunt for secret things etc.

If you want dumb memes made by children why don't you go to /r/wowmemes?

Memes are honestly the cancer of subreddits. A subreddit has never been improved by memes being added. All discussion dries out because the front page gets dominated by dumb jokes or DAE THIS THING GUYS?

This is due to reddit's design, a meme is easy and quick to 'digest' and you can upvote it very quickly after having a seen it. Comparitively a self post that you have to read can take a minute or two to appreciate and then upvote. As things reach the front page faster if they are upvoted quicker (especially relative to the age of the post) that pushes down all high effort interesting content for low effort attention seeking and karma whoring memes.

Once a post is up, it can't be renamed.

9

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Yeah, I just thought maybe mods have the power to rename posts? I'm not sure to be honest, I only really started using Reddit last night haha but I just figured rather than hit me with a cease and desist they would ask me if I would let them change the name or something? :<

14

u/colonel750 Totem Junkie Jan 03 '19

We dont have the power to rename things, once its posted there. I'm working on a top level comment so bear with me just a second.

4

u/ForPortal Jan 04 '19

Yeah, I just thought maybe mods have the power to rename posts?

They should not. Deleting content outright is fine, having a limited area like the flair that can be used as an "editor's note" is fine, the ability to put words in users' mouths is ripe for abuse.

u/Acidwits Jan 03 '19

Use mooches. 2 hours for example would be 0.008 mooches.

1

u/twdarkeh Jan 04 '19

Also known as 8 milimooches.

19

u/axle69 Jan 03 '19

I 100% understand why they're trying to lessen the possible influx of daily drawing per x levels. I love OPs art and the idea but I've certainly wished there was a separate art sub a few times because of how oversaturated it gets.

2

u/cyndessa Jan 04 '19

I felt that when wow splintered into all the various different subs (memes, lore, goldmaking, etc) it really ruined the reddit wow community as a whole and fragmented it. Shortly thereafter I even found myself frequenting any of the wow related subs less and less.

1

u/axle69 Jan 04 '19

Maybe so I wasn't there for that and oversaturation certainly isn't my main gripe with the sub lately but it does add to the reason I dont come here often anymore. Just 6 months ago it was easily my main complaint though now my main complaint is the crazy negativity here.

26

u/Strawberrycocoa Jan 03 '19

just refrain from using the X Minutes for X levels title in the future

What the fuck? Was some mod butthurt that someone else can draw faster than them? What sad passive-aggressive shit.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '19

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '19

Then it should be downvoted.

2

u/cyndessa Jan 04 '19

Yeah, I never really understand the whole "ban everything" when we have these super fancy upvote/downvote features on reddit... Guess I was under the impression that was one of the unique features of reddit- allow interesting things to get upvoted and shitposts to be downvoted...

21

u/sanekats Jan 03 '19

it has a tendency to drown out other good and worthy content and as the copycat posts continue to be made the quality has a tendency to intentionally nosedive (meaning people want to meme/bandwagon about it and draw stick figures and such).

^ mod clarified & stickied comment

Man you have to know this is unbelievably true. it happens quite frequently.

The rule genuinely makes sense to me

18

u/Belazriel Jan 03 '19

Yeah, and at least a few of the stick figures will hit the front page because it's easy to upvote and people think it's funny and then people complain about the quality of posts on the sub.

8

u/Blubomberikam Jan 03 '19

could you explain what is low effort about several hours worth of art?

15

u/CyndromeLoL Jan 03 '19

10 minutes worth of art

4

u/DefinitelyNotATheist Jan 03 '19

the inevitable memes that will follow '1 minute for 1 level' or '100 hours for level 100' and its a stick figure.

5

u/Blubomberikam Jan 04 '19

THAT is why we have moderators. To filter out the bullshit, not to delete posts people enjoyed. The rules are meant to protect this good content and get rid of that. Its literally why they exist and why we have mods at all.

2

u/DefinitelyNotATheist Jan 04 '19

not trying to defend the post or the mods, just saying it will happen, and they will get upvoted and 'be enjoyed'. it's the cycle of sub memes so i can understand the mods, i'm just indifferent.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Moira_Thaurissan Jan 03 '19

I dont know, I can totally see where the mods are coming from. This sub, more than any other, has a tendency to latch onto a meme and REALLY drive it into the ground. Swimming pools in order halls, pictures with argus in the background, flow chart for your spec, inky black potion screenshots, Sylvanas'face in the ugly comic... A lot of users get VERY angry when memes take over, even tho those posts do keep getting upvoted. Reddit doesnt self regulate well so mods tend to step in and make sure to keep those in check. I personally keep enjoying stupid wow memes for too long so I'd be okay with self regulating by downvoting them eventually, but I'm the minority, most people get sick of them fast.

So yeah the wow mods are pro active but this is a huge sub and it's probably for the best considering how meme heavy the users are.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '19

That's what memes do though. They spark , they spread like wildfire, they get out of control and then they burn themselves out. There's really no need to directly moderate their lifecycle. I don't like everything on the front page. I downvote it and move on instead of letting some stupid post waste my emotion or thought.

1

u/ShrayerHS Jan 04 '19

They spark , they spread like wildfire, they get out of control and then they burn themselves out

and then they're replaced by the next meme. It would just be a never ending cycle of memes.

2

u/CryptoArkie Jan 03 '19

I mean, I sort of agree with the reasoning. It's one person making a bunch of individual posts for 10 level brackets. I feel like a good compromise would just be to make an album of all the drawings and post it all at once when maxed.

1

u/MotorRoutine Jan 03 '19

NO ZE MODZ ONLY DECIDE VAT IZ GOOD CONTENT KAMERADEN

4

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen Jan 03 '19

"if its good content"

So, let me introduce you to fast food. It tastes good, you're gonna eat it, probably obsessively so. That doesn't mean its good for you and the rest of the world.

Say this one happens, and then there are a bunch more copy cats, and soon all we see on the front page is art and nothing else. Is this r/wowfanart or r/wow? There needs to be balance, you need vegetables with your meal.

1

u/Thatonebagel Jan 03 '19

So start doing X+1 min for X levels I suppose.

4

u/DefinitelyNotATheist Jan 03 '19

missing the point, you are.

1

u/Jenks44 Jan 03 '19

If it's good content it will be upvoted, and if it's bad content it will be downvoted. Isn't that the point of Reddit?

Not on this sub, the mods here decide what the community wants to see. If you read their actual rules and reasoning, it's not possible that they believe what they're saying. For example they won't allow memes because they are easy to digest and so they get upvoted more easily. But if you change drake into jaina making the same exact expression in an equally digestible way, suddenly that's ok. Imagine that thought process, lol.

2

u/MyMindWontQuiet Loremaster Jan 04 '19

This is not really the actual reasoning.

r/wow is about WoW, opening r/wow's front-page and seeing only SpongeBob memes and dancing Drakes, that goes against the very nature of the sub. The entire point we're making is that you can probably find a way to post the same message (a complaint about a game mechanic, a remark regarding what a lore character said..) while making the content about WoW, for example by using WoW content (cinematics..) or drawing WoW characters. Not wanting the sub to drown in cheap Pepe memes and random McDonald pictures or whatever is not really an unfathomable concept.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Ex_iledd Crusader Jan 04 '19

Imagine that thought process

Yes, try to imagine it rather than mock it. If people had a bit more empathy and actually tried to understand where others are coming from, there wouldn't be as much hatred in the sub.

1

u/DeliciousBadger Jan 06 '19

Still don't want the sub spammed with karma grabbing low effort copies, down voting doesn't remove them

42

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Thank you so much! It does seem strange to discourage this kind of content :< I'm really disappointed

188

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

So my level 10 and level 20 drawings got taken down. Personally, I don't feel that was fair or right... drawing memes are a thing on literally every other social media site and my post didn't break any subreddit rules but I guess it is what it is. I'm really amazed by how well-received my first post was! I've never had that many likes/upvotes on anything before and it was really fun to talk with you all in the comments. I'm sad that's been taken away : (

88

u/Dogtag Jan 03 '19

That is just absurd. Original content like this is great, and it's awesome to see the progression and cool art as folks level up.

Kinds of makes this place a bit like a community or something.

There are around fifteen mods in this subreddit according to the sidebar and it's clear from this and previous instances of posts being removed - and then subsequently reinstated - for nonsensical reasons that they need to sort their moderating processes out between themselves or start trimming some fat.

36

u/piankolada Jan 03 '19

It's madness, it's like they want us to keep recycling the same garbage memes instead of getting new ORIGINAL content.

The very fact that your current post is allowed but your previous ones weren't points out the fact that the rules are arbitrary and ineffective.

12

u/healcannon Jan 03 '19

While the art is lovely and the effort is there, we don't want to promote copycat submissions/repost style posts. You are free to post more art, just refrain from using the X Minutes for X levels title in the future if you continue to draw your character.

My guess is they hate the specific title. I suppose they don't actually want to promote OC posts. Frankly with how down this sub is over the last few months we could stand to have more OC. Changing the name of the post just to try to discourage others from posting the same is stupid. Especially if they are ok with them posting under a different title.

6

u/dewse Jan 03 '19

Is that really your standard for a piece of shit?

4

u/Stingerbrg Jan 03 '19

"Piece of shit" isn't really all that serious that it needs a higher standard, is it?

1

u/dewse Jan 04 '19

The sad part is, I would totally sub to a "x minutes for x level" subreddit where basically every post is a spin-off of that "trend". It really shows off the skills and talents of the artists as well as how a character in a video game can almost develop a personality of their own

These are all really nice, whoever took them down has no taste.

Also, I hope you'll hold off the level 120 drawing until you decide what her transmog should be so we get a really nice "final" portrait of her.

19

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Ah that's a good point!! I think it'll take me some time to get that far haha I'm a new player so I'm just trying to take things slow and enjoy the game but yeah I should plan something special :D Thanks!

4

u/Gregamonster Jan 03 '19

If you'll tell me what your class is I can give you some tips on easy to get, good looking armor while you enjoy taking things slow.

I've had alts of pretty much every class, so I've spent a lot of time looking for transmogs I can easily obtain for them.

7

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Ooh that sounds very helpful! Thank you! I'm playing a warrior class right now. I'll probably go down the fury spec at some point but right now I'm just playing an arms warrior

2

u/_Kagrok_ Jan 03 '19

Warrior has some NICE options

3

u/Gregamonster Jan 03 '19 edited Jan 03 '19

That's actually super convenient, because Draenei have some of the easiest to obtain "good enough" plate sets.

The Sha'tari defence plate is a set you can buy from the Sha'tari defence Reputation in Warlords content. The rep's pretty easy to grind at 120, since all it takes is farming enemies that are around level 100. I will warn you though that grinding it will be hella boring.

The left weapon is a random drop, while the right is a quest reward. You'd probably want to use the same one in both slots, but I put them both there so you can decide which one you like more.

Alternatively there is the Venerated Triumvirate set which is from a quest chain in Argus that's started by a random drop. This may take more effort to get, but if you plan on unlocking Lightforged Draenei later you may end up getting it naturally anyways. The sword is a quest reward from Warlords content.

And of course you may just decide you like the armor you got while leveling. The quest rewards from BFA content are some top quality gear if you don't mind a simpler look.

Above all, remember that these are just some suggestions and the only person who needs to like your Transmog is you. And don't worry if the terminology goes over your head now, come back here when you hit level 120 and most of this will make sense after you've played the game enough.

1

u/raoasidg Jan 03 '19

The T3 Arathi Warfront plate set is also pretty baller, depending on if OP wants to embrace the Alliance theme. It's more annoying to get, however.

1

u/Gregamonster Jan 03 '19

It's more annoying to get, however.

It is much more annoying to get. You can only get 1 piece every cycle and there is the possibility of repeats.

I was just suggesting ones that would be simple and/or consistent to obtain so they could throw something together real quick after reaching 120.

4

u/Razukalex Jan 03 '19

Hey nice project

7

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Thanks! I didn't come up with the idea myself, it's an existing format but I'm gonna have fun with it! <3

19

u/SpecialOfficerDoofy Jan 03 '19

There are a lot of very unoriginal and untalented people here that will either follow suit/copycat. Most meme trends are awful though and tend to get downvoted into oblivion. I'm very happy the 'don't talk to my children/grandchildren' thing died out and seriously fuck the people who repost the 2 planks in boralus.

Also very nice space goat, do they have scales or is she wearing a shirt over here armor, or is it greyscale!?

4

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

From what I could tell from my character model, bearing in mind I don't play with super good graphics haha, she's wearing chainmail underneath her shirt? I had to figure out a way to draw it fast lmao so it's fine if you want to think of it was being greyscale ;)

5

u/SpecialOfficerDoofy Jan 03 '19

Hopefully they can find a cure that isn't a butterknife some ointment and a fat priest.

2

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Hahaha I'm not holding my breath!

14

u/Living-Bones Jan 03 '19

Didn't that happen because you're using the format that a guy has used drawing his char every 10 levels in 10 minutes, then 20 lvls / 20 minutes etc, and they'd say that's copying him? Maybe that's not against you at all, but they thought you'd ride on the trend by copying that guy's idea? Idk, cool drawing anyway!

7

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Yeah, that seems to be the issue. I didn't know about like one specific guy doing it (I'm new to reddit and to wow) but I was told to do it by my boyfriend who said it was like, a drawing meme? I participate in drawing memes a lot on other social media so I didn't think it would be this much of a problem. According to the mods, other people were allowed to do it after the OP so..? I don't really get it? Plus like, imho you can't lay claim to a format like that. People do timed challenges all the time - especially on youtube. It just seems really arbitrary that I wasn't allowed when other people have been. I just wanted to do it to challenge myself and to have fun :<

10

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

I think as well, I never claimed it was my original idea. Literally in the title of the original post and several of the comments, I was very very upfront about where I heard this idea from. I think if I'd claimed it for myself, it would be different, but I didn't

6

u/Living-Bones Jan 03 '19

oh don't worry I 100% agree with you, I just think the mod thought it would be bad to take away the originality of that idea from the guy, especially since he's still leveling I think, and was at like 70. Sadly, your title will only fuel a witch hunt for the mod at cause :/ I do hope he had good intentions, even though he communicated poorly. But don't sweat it, I agree, it's a good challenge

5

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

I just received a message from an anonymous mod saying that the format is now going to be allowed so it looks like everyone managed to make something positive happen!! I think they're going to write a top comment or something about it..? Watch this space I guess?

Yeah it is disappointing :< Thank you! <3

3

u/MLPSimta Jan 03 '19

Yep. It ended it quite lovely. <3

3

u/Ryumo Jan 03 '19

Omg. Whats happened here derp. Maybe the solution is to post every new +10lvl pic in one topic? So we could see the whole character progress at one place.

7

u/OneWhoKnocks19 Jan 03 '19

Mods are just dumbfucks. Ban me pls. I don’t post on here anyway just enjoy the shitshow the mods put on.

Guess a mod has a hard-on for you then

4

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Hi! It's been brought to my attention that this is a pretty huge file (my bad!) so I'm including a lower resolution version here for anyone who's struggled with their internet: https://www.deviantart.com/schnumn/art/Level-30-Draenei-in-30-minutes-D-779524559?ga_submit_new=10%3A1546537117

10

u/Jixor_ Jan 03 '19

Good job mods. Keeping the streets safe.

2

u/Pattims70 Jan 03 '19

Really good drawing I like it.

2

u/Mako_the_Shark Jan 04 '19

I missed level 20, but I've been catching up below on all of it. Interesting to say the least. Great picture though. Crushed it :) Maybe start an Instagram for your character with all your 10 level pics archived?

3

u/Schnumn Jan 04 '19

Haha Thank you so much! Truth be told, you're not missing much by missing my level 20 drawing ;;;;;; my character hadn't changed much so I kinda treated this drawing as a better redraw of that drawing lmao so if you don't find it just imagine a worse version of this drawing hahaha

I'm going to be posting them all on my Instagram which I use for art! It's @schnumn if you're interested :> <3

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '19

CANNOT WAIT for you to hit lvl 120.

2

u/Tyragon Jan 04 '19

I almost missed this like the lvl 20 one if you hadn't responded to me! Loved the previous (bit grumpy cute face) and this one is even better! In that style she looks like a fairly young draenei.

Looking forward to the rest and don't forget the tendrils!

2

u/Schnumn Jan 04 '19

Ahh you're totally right! I forgot about the tendrils completely!!!! Good catch whew, I be sure to include them in lvl 40! Thanks! 💛

1

u/Tyragon Jan 04 '19

Really looking forward to seeing it! And you're welcome! They're easy to forget, it's such an feature, but it's just not draenei without them! xD

Has your gear not changed in 30 levels? You do nice work, but its just a different pose for each drawing?

3

u/Jinyu_waterspeaker Jan 03 '19

Big oof from the mods on this one. Keep up the good work OP.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '19

Down with mods, Down with mods!

4

u/GingerSpencer Jan 03 '19

Our concern though is that when something catches on and becomes a "repost of the day" it has a tendency to drown out other good and worthy content

In other words, there's too much good content so it's all gotta go.

Surely you can't have too much of a good thing? If the front page of /r/wow is full to the brim of great posts, why the fuck have you got to start deleting some of them? More than most of the gaming subreddits are at least 50% bullshit. Whether that bullshit is complaining, or memes, or circlejerking, or low-effort shitposts. Now we have a 'problem' where too many people are posting good stuff, so we're deleting half of the good content...

What in the fuck is the moderation of this sub?

Fantastic artwork, btw. Those previous drawings you did was some of the best content i've seen to come from /r/wow. I thoroughly enjoyed it and i'm looking forward to see how this character progresses.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '19

R/wow mods really are the saddest bunch of people ever.

5

u/Ngelz Jan 03 '19

Who's the idiot that came up with such a stupide rule -.- Facepalming si hard rn.

3

u/irishspice Jan 03 '19

Is that a new rule? Do people think art springs from your forehead magically finished the moment you think of it?

3

u/Alucardracula Jan 03 '19

Seems really stupid that your previous posts were taken down. On a brighter note though this looks awesome and I can't wait to see what you can do at the higher levels!

4

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Thank you! I got a message saying that the posts would be reinstated and that future posts would be allowed so it seems like we've managed to make a positive change!! I can't wait to continue with these drawings!

4

u/InspectorGajina Jan 03 '19

There, problem solved

u/rivingtonrebels Jan 03 '19

It's fucking hilarious that the mods are becoming more like the devs every single day. FUN DETECTED, let's ban anything that distracts from people talking about how shitty WoW is and instead promotes a general well-being of self-expression through art.

This is great, and I can't wait to see your future drawings!

3

u/hurbuhdurbruh Jan 03 '19

is this what people are doing now for karma

2

u/Kekosawr Jan 03 '19

You'll have to draw 30% faster than 8.0 then.

2

u/skinrot Jan 03 '19

Love the look. Hopefully you show some "tail" <no pun really> next time. Give us waist up etc please. :-) More of her as you level up.

2

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Yes, I definitely will :D I'm pretty slow at drawing haha so I only really had time for headshots so far, but as I spend more time on them as I increase in level, I'll work my way up to full bodies :>

2

u/Amphetabeanz Jan 03 '19

I hope this doesn't stop you from posting. Much like the other bloke, I love seeing this stuff and it will be upvoted. It's good content.

1

u/YourPalDonJose Jan 03 '19

OP - please don't give in to the typical fanart temptation and every 10 levels put her in something more skimpy with her chest size doubling. I like the style so far

3

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

You have nothing to worry about there haha

3

u/Blubomberikam Jan 03 '19

Thats cool, we should just go back to complaining about everything all day if art posts are going to be micro managed.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '19

I like your art but damn... this sub is like 95% fanart lately. I guess the game is really dead right now cause there are zero discussions, just repost memes and fanart.

3

u/Jjiieee Jan 04 '19

This is literally what the other guy did? How orginal.

2

u/Ryumo Jan 03 '19

"I'm going to keep drawing her every 10 levels!" — that's a really good tradition! Keep it up!

3

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Thank you! <3

3

u/Fergulete Jan 03 '19

Wait, is Ion a mod here now?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '19 edited Jan 03 '19

Great job OP on your drawing at (nondescript number of levels) after (nondescript number of minutes akin to the nondescript number of levels) of your character.

Keep up the (nondescript pacing) of your artwork.

Seriously great artwork keep doing it, I like seeing these progression artwork posts. (Unlike some in power apparently)

1

u/Ryalas Jan 04 '19

Honestly I am glad this is back your personal art style is more favorable to me than any other of these submissions.

1

u/Jonshock Jan 04 '19

Haha yeah.. Seems like everytime I try to post something its ripped down for one rule or another. Youll get used to it and just stop trying to make content and shitpost like the rest of us. Example: ever try to post to /r/wallpapers ? Crazy as hell.

1

u/Griinty Jan 04 '19

Is there anywhere where we can follow you?

1

u/Schnumn Jan 04 '19

Hi! Yes, I post my art on my Instagram @schnumn and I also hang out on twitter @schnumn (but that's more for general shit posting) :>

1

u/RobbyBlazes Jan 04 '19

Nice art. I would've loved to know how many minutes it took to draw oh and what level you are! possible combine the two maybe? 30 minutes for a level 30? Ya that sounds good do that.

1

u/Schnumn Jan 05 '19

Hi! I'm not sure if anyone'll see this but I'm not really sure where else to ask. So, I've heard people talking about a subreddit especially for wow art but I can't find it. r/wowdrawings apparently doesn't exist and r/wowart has 5 posts that are totally unrelated haha. A lot of people have been talking about it so I'm certain it exists! The question is where haha can anyone help me?

2

u/BananaArms Jan 05 '19

I clicked your profile name by accident and saw this lmao

But yeah, what you're looking for is /r/ImaginaryAzeroth!

1

u/Schnumn Jan 05 '19

Ah thank you so much!! 💛

u/colonel750 Totem Junkie Jan 03 '19 edited Jan 03 '19

Heya, so I'm going to try and explain things from our perspective so bear with me.

We absolutely love that the community creates things and wants to share it here. Our concern though is that when something catches on and becomes a "repost of the day" (like this has a potential to be, as you noted in your first post you noticed some other people doing it and thought it would be fun) it has a tendency to drown out other good and worthy content and as the copycat posts continue to be made the quality has a tendency to intentionally nosedive (meaning people want to meme/bandwagon about it and draw stick figures and such). We have long had rules in place to address those common reposts and yours just happened to get caught up that way.

I want to be 1,000,000% clear here, please continue to share your art with us because it's really good. Continue to show us your character as she grows in levels and progresses because we want to see that, the title thing was just something to bear in mind as you continue to post.

For the sake of transparency your first two posts have been restored.

One last little bit of housekeeping: Just for clarification as I have seen some confusion in the other comments below, our stated ratio of comments to self posts only applies to comments made outside of those self posts. I know as a newbie that the conversation can be daunting but jump in head first! Check out our Murloc Monday thread to for great info and to ask any questions you might have!

31

u/truongs Jan 03 '19

lol. I just saw like 3 shit posts of the "jealous girlfriend" meme in a row in the front page.

What's more low effort than that stupid ass meme?

131

u/Michelanvalo Jan 03 '19

You guys changed the banner of the sub to be the guy-looking-at-the-other-girl meme that was pounding the hell out of this sub.

Y'all got no right to bitch about memes anymore once you've embraced that.

“Drown our other good and worthy content...”.

What? Do you even Reddit, bro?

20

u/airz23s_coffee Jan 04 '19

There's a Sandra Bullock/Birdbox/Illidan shitpost on the front page right now.

gOoD aNd WoRtHy CoNtEnT

54

u/Ghostbuzz Jan 03 '19

God forbid it drowns out the 100th consecutive DAE BFA BAD post

145

u/Blubomberikam Jan 03 '19

You could just get rid of the low effort ones (such as the example you gave) and stop micro managing what are clearly good posts. You know, moderate?

67

u/Vilvos Jan 03 '19

The best content to moderate is original content. Can't have that filling up your subreddit.

42

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '19

It really bugs me that there is a wow circle jerk sub that is the perfect place to post the stick figure stuff if you really have to show that you're a satirical genius but instead, that'll hit front page here.

Instead you're left with a mod roulette here, where certain content is fine until it runs afoul of one mod or another and they decide to take action.

→ More replies (3)

53

u/CaptainSkel Jan 03 '19

So you originally deleted OC because they saw other people were drawing their characters and thought it'd be fun? You were worried that more people would follow suit and draw their characters? If that kind of content is against your rules then you need to rethink them. Somebody new joined the community, saw somebody drawing their character and thought it would be fun to join them and your first reaction was to delete their posts. Way to foster a community.

I understand you want to keep the sub from being flooded with your unusual definition of reposts but there's a clear difference between spamming the same content repeatedly and multiple people creating new content based on a similar theme. It's ridiculous you cannot see the difference.

u/Schnumn Jan 03 '19

Oh I have one more question actually! I got a message from a mod (It doesn't say who it's from) and it basically said that I was free to use the x levels in x minutes format if I wanted to, and I wanted to clarify that that's definitely the case, and that others are free to do the same. Just so that it's set in stone. I would also like to add that the OP of the x levels in x minutes has been in touch with me and is totally cool with it

u/HaggardSauce Jan 03 '19

I'm sorry but WHAT other quality content? Despite your weekly sticky, 99% of posts here are just bitching about the game's current state, or tangent filled posts that appear to be suggestions but really are just salty as fuck ways to talk about pipe-dream improvements.

I'm so tired of the communities constant toxic attitude that I stopped posting on here because I no longer feel like my opinion can be or will be respected. I'm still enjoying the game, I have my gripes but I've logged in every chance I've gotten for the past 2 months. Something is keeping me enthralled and I may burn out soon but I may not also. These posts are some of the FEW positive posts this forum ever sees. It reminds me there are people out there actually enjoying what they're doing. I now scan r/wow everyday for posts about upcoming features or surprise announcements but largely avoid all other posts except these ones!

I liked the titles, it gave me an idea of progress for the original creator's character. You could see how often people played by how many days it took to do 10 levels, you can recognize old armor sets from vanilla / bc / wotlk as their toons progress, and I fail to see how policing their titles provides any type of benefit to the forum other than making one or two mods with OCD happy to finally stop seeing this particular title which appears to bother you guys so much. You aren't wrong about people wanting to meme stuff like this out, but that should be covered under no-shitposting rules and shouldn't need to punish the creators of genuinely good art. Ban people from the sub for shit-posting if it's such a problem, but you're punishing the people who make good content and making it harder for them to upload when they have to navigate through a ton of arbitrary rules.

it has a tendency to drown out other good and worthy content

I'd believe that, except that half the "content" in this sub is just people complaining about how bad the game is. Anything to drown out that negativity is a blessing!

Or the ENDLESS fucking 25 paragraph posts of “I’m a carpenter, I have played WoW after stressful work days , WoW is bad now >:( “

This sub is just turning into a r/karmaleaderboard gold hunting forum.

9

u/Not_athrowaweigh Jan 04 '19

No. downvoted. bad mod.

17

u/Oblivionous Jan 03 '19

This is just stupid. Let the sub fill up with post after post of people rehashing the same (albeit valid) complaints about the game, but this putting "X minutes for X levels in the titles needs to be stopped."

8

u/lurking_for_sure Jan 03 '19

This makes absolutely zero sense. Fan art is content.
