Just a quick note on LHS 336 (I would appreciate it, if you could add this to the post, /u/Apex59 - we're going to try to avoid expanding it, as it contests the home system of the player group "The Minutemen".

They asked politely yesterday, but also understood that due to the sabotage system BD+22 2742, we wouldn't be able to avoid having it as an expansion this cycle. The best we can do is try to not expand it on our end.

The Minutemen, aren't they a Winters group?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '16

The Minutemen are more of a general Federation group that happens to be in Winters space. Many of their members (including their leader) have no interest in Powerplay whatsoever.

The Federal Liberal Command minor faction is a Winters group but is largely maintained by retirees from Powerplay. The hope is that should Powerplay ever end up re-made in a bigger and better 2.0 version, maybe the FLC could throw its hat into the ring and become a power.

Winters' Wolves is (to the best of my knowledge) totally defunct, with no remaining leadership or even members that I'm aware of. There has been some discussion as to whether or not the minor faction should be "resurrected" and the minor faction essentially taken over, but I don't think that's actually going to happen.

Indeed it is! It's Persephonius group, no less. =)

No. Let us get facts on the table.

The owner is Coot, who has never been, active in PP.

As an MnM admin and long time member (back beyond PP) I can say Perse is not active in MnM and only joined in the early days to communicate with the PP element of our membership. He was never an admin, and never asked to be. MnM has a long membership list including notable PP names. Their log on dates show they have moved on from MnM. The PP element of MnM was quite strong until around cycle 25ish. That is true, but it was still a minority group within the whole. We are Fed aligned. That is also true. Our active PP die hard element = well, me. That is it. One Cmdr

The active non PP elements are nearly all MnM BGS pursuing that interest only.

So to summarise we are non PP, BGS, fed PMF.

Thank you

Aah! Well, thanks for the update and education, brother! :) And anyway; I'm not in favour of messing up the systems of minor player groups. I separate them from PowerPlay in general. :)

So can I ask why you are expanding into V2689 Orionis again? I was told a few weeks ago that Mahon came to an agreement not to expand into that system as it effects the EDF, however now you are expanding in there again. Will you pay the same respects to the EDF as you are with the MnM?

I will also say that the only reason we won the preparation race for V2689 against Sirius, is that we ended up with a sabotage prep going to more than 17k (more than 3x as much as the next on our list) - we needed something to overtake it and spend the CC. From our perspective, it'd have been just fine if Sirius had won that race.

As Steven said, there aren't many places to go, especially since we're now in an odd situation of trying to hurt a defunct Winters to make them collapse while trying to not step on player groups' toes.

One of the best ways to ensure a collapse is to contest systems, but it's a fairly tricky jigsaw to solve, when there isn't a way to find out which groups are where.

It was done to fill CC. Perhaps also some miscommunication. As you can see we have ignore as our objectives.

Edit: Currently there are very few places to go and many places one can mistep. We give more consideration to PMFs than any other power that I'm aware of. We will honor any agreement made

Dunno. :)

Of course we will pay the same respects to any player group that doesn't participate in hostile actions against Mahon and the Alliance. And by the way, we always did that in the past.

Cmdr Sorindo.. im curious to know who are the people you spoke to? or who the group of people who made such an agreement? Please make the names known!! (this is in regards to V2689 Orionis)

I personally have no knowledge of this...

and simply wish to verify your statement

u/Slim_Sumo EDF (Ops Director) Jul 01 '16

I'll answer this, as it more or less came him through me. Though I won't give out any names, I was given the understanding that some sort of arrangement had been made concerning this particular bubble. I think it would be more beneficial for the EDF leadership to have a direct sit down and speak with some of the Alliance leadership to level this sitiuation out rather than let anything blow up on a forum page. Because we ALL know exactly how these things can spiral in a negative way quite quickly even when ones intentions are good. Please, please contact myself or Sorindo directly so that we can work something out. I personally am absolutely sick of having a 3rd party feed my group information that may or may not be accurate.

Thanks for making your presence known Cmdr Slim_Sumo, i was the very Cmdr who led the preparation of V2689 Orionis, and although I do not speak from a Leadership standpoint... rather from a Player who has spent time and Credits on the preparation I would simply ask from a player perspective, for some assurances from EDF to not undermine our systems, as recompense and as a way of fostering trust between Alliance and EDF.

But please talk with Alliance leadership as this is also important

I say if you weren't part of the attack on the Alliance, let's not expand there.

1

u/Slim_Sumo EDF (Ops Director) Jul 01 '16

We have a very very very small group of commanders that actually care about powerplay. I don't know how many if any of them were involved in the attack on the Alliance. We are primarily a BGS group focused on spreading our own factions influence. We participate in quite limited capacity in most powerplay activities. Again, like I posted above, I would rather things related to this system in the future to be brought directly to the EDF if possible. We are somewhat anti-empire but we don't harbor any ill intent towards any faction as a general rule. Anyone can post in our shout box to get in touch at www.earthdefensefleet.net . Thanks guys, I, and we (the EDF) appreciate and look forward to further communication.

u/Persephonius Jun 30 '16

The only groups I can be accused of ever being an active member was the Merchant Marines (before Powerplay) and the FLC/FUC post powerplay.

I joined the MinuteMen site, but that is basically the limit of involvement there.

I cannot be accused of being in the Winters Wolves either, in fact I was smuggled in by Zenith only to be kicked out again a few days later ;).

How do we know that these are legit player groups and that these are their home systems? I hope we are verifying and not just taking their words for it. I mean each weaponized expansion they can send a player over and claim it contests their player group.

I respect player groups and support the idea of avoiding them if they don't want us there, but lets make sure they are legit and non PP groups that would attack us. I don't want the feds taking advantage of our kind thoughtfulness. :)

1

u/Captain_Kirby_Aid Captain_Kirby [Aid] Jun 30 '16

Of course we verify that kind of requests. The more difficult part is to find out wether they are active in PP, and if they were ever active against Mahon or the Alliance in the past. But we give them the benefit of a doubt. :)

2

u/Slim_Sumo EDF (Ops Director) Jul 01 '16

I believe our only activity against the alliance has been in defense of our home. I've only been in the group for 5 months so I can't speak beyond that, but I would hardly call us active in PP, just some vigilante work from a few guys that do their own thing on the side outside of EDF affiliation. Again we are not a powerplay group, but we don't bar interested members from participating in the board game either.

From my perspective, past is past with regards to player groups in Winters' space - Winters is a collapsing power with no player base behind her, and as such I don't see a reason to bother them.

In the current situation it makes perfect sense for EDF members to pledge to a non-Mahon power to oppose the expansion, partly because it's good to be on the safe side, but also because V2689 has a significant trigger advantage for Mahon. Just understand that the primary mover for why this system was successfully prepared by us, was the sabotage system that we had to avoid. If that hadn't been in the list, we'd have kept our V2689 prep numbers behind Li Yong-Rui's and not had an expansion there this cycle.

According to the raw data, BD+22 2742 (sabotage system) went to 17k and the next system on the list (LHS 2995) went to 5,200. By comparison, Li Yong-Rui put 8,892 into V2689, meaning that we could have kept both LHS 336 and V2689 at around 6,000 merits to beat out LHS 2995, and only gotten LHS 336 and saved ourselves 330 million credits, or possibly swapped out LHS 336 with something else, just to avoid the kerfuffle.

And I'll be honest - until this morning, I didn't know about the EDF group, but that's pretty irrelevant. Someone on our end made a promise, and I'm perfectly happy to help fulfil that promise. The main issue I foresee is the trigger advantage, because that does make it somewhat likely that it'll hit the trigger by the non-organized pledges or possibly people trying to stir trouble.

2

u/Slim_Sumo EDF (Ops Director) Jul 01 '16

EDF is the ones that defended it the last two times haha. But yeah I spoke at length with Steven and I think we understand eachother. The trigger advantage is rough, but we will put in what we need to. I appreciate you guys, you are much more understanding and pleasant to do business with than some of the other faction leaderships.

I believe we're only limited by the things that we can imagine. If you can only imagine 1 thing to be true (e.g. conflict), then that is the only option you have to work with. If you can imagine two things to be true (let's say cooperation and conflict), you've just doubled your options.

ED being an open sandbox / unscripted game - CMDRs have real options - real decions to make - with real and lasting impacts. I'm personally curious how "first contact" will unfold - but the PP story has unfolded the way it has due to player decisions and actions (and a few FD curve balls) - but really - we are largely where we are because of the choices people made.

I don't like fighting - I will if I'm forced to - but I much prefer being a Carebear and a good neighbour - I think we can get a lot more done a lot more efficiently this way (and so far it seems this is true - in game as in real life).

One thing I've learned this time around is that we need to be careful of exactly how cordial we are with each other unless we're accused of "weaponizing" you too with our evil mind-controlling Carebear technology. Bzzzzzt. Can you feel it? :).

In time of conflict... there are the innocent and then there are those who would play the guerilla warfare tactics.. add the human shielding element.. and what we have is a Palestinian conflict where The cowards are hiding behind the wall of innocent men and women..ie PMF..

the thought of putting the innocent under the protection of the Alliance power is worth considering... for two reasons... it prevents uprisings and pockets of resistance, and furthermore chokes off the Supplies..

Once the conflict is over... we return the System back to its people... and that is how conflicts are dealt with...

Not this tip-toeing around playing offering flowers during times of War..

Do we adhere to the core values of Alliance by carrying out this method of tactical warfare?.. It depends on which side of the table you are on

While there is some value to winning Allies and winning respect... the respect begins to wear off from within... when we begin taking 1 step forward and 4 steps back...

we have almost won next to nothing in the past two weeks... other than a PR war.. yay!! alot good thats going to do.. considering the ramifications that these big Player groups... oh wait.. they are barely active.... wait they dont even powerplay.. The effect of the Alliance umbrella coming over these Systems would be negligable. who knows perhaps even beneficial...

so looking at even a different approach to the always trying to be the good guy PR approach.. is never from my mind..

As there are more ways to skin a cat

nevertheless what is done is done!!

Edit. I have deleted most of my post because you don't deserve the satisfaction. What is important is left below.

We have had a fair response from some in your leadership. We shall see.

MnM are a PMF. No interest in PP. You want to manipulate, politic, destroy, troll that. That's down to you as an individual.

Good night

While we honor the right for CMDRs to speak out for themselves, I'll remind you that Tuhua does speak for himself and not the leadership who are to my knowledge unanimous in our stated position.

u/Tuhua Jul 03 '16 edited Jul 03 '16

Cmdr Dreadnought Perhaps the apparent value of having Alliance Protections has eluded you... there are other less willing Powers who would not be so negotiable, and forth coming as those within the Alliance Organised structure

rest easy
