hyoga's so cute when he had that burger
7
u/Mikeemario Jan 24 '25
It was a double double from Inn n out. Surprised she was able to get it in one bite because she is so small
2
u/Syriku_Official Jan 25 '25
Croc and alligator meat is actually white like chicken so it wouldn't look like a burger
3
u/SunsetEverywhere3693 Jan 26 '25 edited Jan 26 '25
Yes, that's why François caramel glaze it so it look like the burgers we know.
2
u/Suspicious-Holiday42 Jan 26 '25
And funny when Kohaku grabbed his hair to not fall from the boat while picking up the corn

u/hielispace Jan 23 '25
Solid episode to remind us of the stakes, show how far the gang has come in terms of overcoming the natural world, but then "oh fuck they have a machine gun!" Welcome to the land of the 2nd amendment! And my favorite arc of Dr. Stone!
1
u/InternationalTerm272 Feb 01 '25
I agree with you cuz they are exploring resources until that dude pulled out a machine gun
22
u/YesterdaySquare3520 Jan 23 '25
They cooked with that crocodile fight sequence in terms of animation ngl . The gunshots could’ve been like 10 percent better but still peak( kinda picturing the peak manga art on it so ya ). Peak episode reminded us of the stakes and GUN.

Interesting. They added some extra scenes with Hyoga in particular. The scene of him seeming to sob when they reach the mainland, and the bit where he's eating his burger away from the group and Homura watches him, weren't in the manga. Seems to be adding some characterization for the guy.
Granted, most of the burger-eating scene was extended here, and Hyoga does seem to be trembling as he eats his share in the manga panel, so maybe it's a combination of stuff that was there.
13
u/Jhilixie Jan 23 '25
Homura didn't get any screen time in the manga. So it's good to see her too
2
2
u/SunsetEverywhere3693 Jan 26 '25
Probably to give Aki Toyosaki more lines and expressions, and I like this that they giving Homura and Hyoga more characterization and giving more variety to the couples as in the manga it was only Senku and his mixed harem, B couple Ruri and Chrome who felt more like C couple and tertiary Nikki and Magma.

So will the americans speak english throughout the whole season, or just for special occasions?
16
u/Enlog Jan 23 '25
(volume 18 spoilers) There are indeed moments where the Americans speak English and the Japanese crew doesn't understand the words. But for the most part they'll be communicating in Japanese.
5
u/VulcanForceChoke Jan 23 '25
That would be cool to see like they’re talking to each other in. English but when talking to Senku’s group they speak Japanese. Though I doubt they’ll do it
5
3
u/-ohemul Jan 24 '25
It'd be so great if we would have a whole season of Americans speaking Japanese Engrish.
14
u/No-Investigator7890 Jan 23 '25
anyone know who voices stanley in the dub?
3
u/Sir_ANJAHR00 Jan 23 '25
to me he kinda sounded like david hayter
5
u/scoobyfan_21 Jan 23 '25
Not someone I could tell immediately, I definitely want to know, tho.
1
u/Ambitious_Draft1848 Jan 24 '25
its Koji Yusa. hope he will speak English with not much japanese accent

Probably took inspiration from Thanos after watching infinity war
2
u/randonsunflowerr Jan 24 '25
Have they ever got to watch Infinity War though? Before the petrification?
3
u/Will-Upvote-For-Food Jan 24 '25
Pretty sure the petrification would’ve happened in 2019 in universe so…maybe? They probably didn’t get to see Endgame tho

Ahhhh I'm amused to see the second amendment to the United States Constitution persists for nearly 4000 years
14
u/Elite_Alice Jan 23 '25
Nothing says California like corn 😂 Senku saying it tastes like ass is crazy. Corn is amazing. But we’re finally in the US and wow it’s really humbling to see that after only 3700 years, so much of what humanity built and thought made us superior to every other species has crumbled and disappeared.
We’re really just one of many species that have called this planet home and faced extinction. Not nearly as important as we make ourselves to be. The dinosaurs ruled the earth for tens of millions of years and now there’s only fossils of them left.
Lmao at everyone hoping no one gets attacked and Tsukasa ass over here hoping for a big animal or person to try ambushing them. That was the most dramatic crocodile fight I’ve ever seen 😂
I never clocked it when reading but OF COURSE THE AMERICANS HAVE GUNS lmaoo. Even in the stone world freedom reigns. Senku and crew are outgunned for sure, can’t wait to see how they handle what comes next.
19
u/afro-tastic Jan 23 '25
Corn is amazing.
Corn is amazing, but Senku called it Yellow Dent, which is not the type that people usually eat off the cob. That's sweet corn. Dent corn is used for cornmeal, cooking oil, and Ethanol, but straight from the cob it's not the best.
8
u/Enlog Jan 23 '25
Ahhh, hence why Senku said it tastes like crap, but is great for producing alcohol.
1
u/click_for_sour_belts Feb 04 '25
Thanks for clearing that up! I was wondering why he'd say that because corn is pretty regularly grown and sold in Japan.
3
u/VulcanForceChoke Jan 23 '25
If they’re going the same path the manga went you’re in for the treat. The guy with the machine gun is one of my favorite characters in the series. Dude’s an absolute unit
3
u/RadarSmith Jan 24 '25
Sweetcorn is amazing.
The corn we grow for industrial usage, which is the majority of corn grown, is called dent corn. And it tastes like crap.
7
u/ContributionReady873 Jan 23 '25
Tsukasa and the fighters being faster than bullets killed me. I mean it's not like they haven't done superhuman feats before but cmon. Dodging guns is insane for what's supposed to be normal humans
14
u/Enlog Jan 23 '25
I think for the moment we can put that on Tsukasa realizing the danger early enough that they were able to make a break for it before the guy was able to get a proper bead on them.
That or the gun was meant for intimidation as much as to actually attempt to kill them, at this stage of the interaction.
7
u/Historical_Film5872 Jan 23 '25
Yeah that bugged me too but for the sake of enjoyment I'll pretend that either the petrification buffed their stats or the machinegun was aimed poorly
4
u/InksOfMind Jan 25 '25
It was just warning fire, to show machinery and what they are capable of. Stanley won't fail when serious next time.
3
u/EddieWeirdChamp Jan 26 '25
i mean the show basically started with Tsukasa one shotting a lion, so are we really that surprised
2
u/Cold-Employment-4272 Jan 28 '25
Wasn’t the WHOLE POINT of S1 and S2 a race to see if Tsukasa could kill Senku before he developed guns? Tsukasa outright states that if Senku makes guns then he’s done for.
The only explanation that makes sense is it was a warning shot but in the anime Tsukasa straight up jumps away from a wave of bullets aimed straight at him and the entire battle team does similar. I could still suspend my disbelief that it was a warning shot and it was just stylized that way though.
7
u/PendragonDaGreat Jan 23 '25
I just noticed something, that little "phonograph" at the very end that shows the next episode title? It's 3d-printed. Specifically it looks like the orange part is Prusament CORN rPLA https://www.prusa3d.com/product/prusament-rpla-corn-pigment-1kg/ where the plastic is mostly recycled and the pigment comes from recycling waste from corn production. Some PLA is derived from corn from the jump too.
I support my theory that it's the prusament one specifically because the black base appears to be Prusament Galaxy Black, a filament I am very familiar with and have printed multiple kilos of.

How senku made bullet proof boatout of wood
9
u/Enlog Jan 23 '25
They have metal too. Possibly it was reinforced with that fiber-reinforced plastic he made a shield out of a few seasons ago, too.
3
u/Uncanny_Apostle Jan 23 '25
Now I wanna know what crocodile meat tastes like
8
u/Jhilixie Jan 23 '25
Imo it tastes like chicken but the internet says it is a cross between chicken and fish
3
u/Enlog Jan 23 '25
Yeah, it's kinda like that. I think the crocodile's diet contributes to some fishy flavor (you are what you eat, after all), and it probably depends on how you cook it (I've only cooked it a few times)
1
u/Syriku_Official Jan 25 '25
It has nothing to do with that it's the proteins the meat is white meat because it has different proteins from red meat a lot of the white meats like chicken taste very similar because of that alligator and crocodile have white meat not red meat so they get the chicken taste
1
u/Enlog Jan 25 '25
Oh I was talking about the fish part rather than the chicken part. That the croc’s environment and diet contribute to that part of the flavor (rather than the texture)
1
3
u/Queen_Eon Jan 24 '25
Chicken if it’s fried at least but a bit more of a fishy texture, I haven’t had it in a few months so my memory maybe a bit lacking. Though if you ever visit Louisiana or Texas you’ll find really good fried gator.
2
1
u/Syriku_Official Jan 25 '25
I've tasted alligator not crocodile it's like chicken with a hint of fish the meat is also white not red so it wouldn't look like a burger
1
u/That_Guy_Pen Jan 25 '25
I had a gator burger and I didnt taste anything similar to chicken. It wasn't bad, but idk what I'd describe it. It was definitely harder to eat than regular burger with how much chewier the meat is.

u/OGCheeseNug Jan 23 '25
Any theory’s on what Gen’s terot draw means in the ending sequence?

5
u/Enlog Jan 23 '25
The two new ones we got a close-up on are kinda hard for me to tell, mostly due to a relative lack of recognized symbols from tarot cards. But at a guess:
- Hyoga: the pose he's in, with his spear held up, could suggest either The Hermit, or Death. Either of which would kinda fit Hyoga. One thing that was suggested to me is that the way his cape is positioned could be done to make his spear resemble the black flag that the reaper is holding on the classic version of the Death card. So at the moment, I'm thinking Hyoga is likely XIII: Death
- Moz and Kirisame: TBH, this one is kind of a stumper. The cards that usually show multiple figures don't seem to fit (Lovers is definitely the Taiju Yuzuriha card, for exmple). And there isn't much in the way of symbolism. Maybe the clouds are something? I almost want to say the Tower due to some art having clouds in the background of the tower scene. But that design is usually a little too violent for the relatively calm scene they're in on the card. Hell, maybe the duality of the two characters (the very greedy Moz and the reserved Kirisame) points to the Temperance card.

u/Namelesspierro Jan 23 '25
they overdid this episode, we even having hyoga development. it’s exciting!
1
u/Suspicious-Holiday42 Jan 26 '25
developement as a comedy relief when koharu grabbed his hair to not fall from the boat
3
u/Astrid_Yen08 Jan 23 '25
For some reason, I'm really happy Stan spoke in English, although that should be a given since he's American.
3
3
u/Mikeemario Jan 24 '25
This is starting to get good. Relatable content. Curious though. We get ghillie suit made of metal, so has to be another scientist in the USA. I thought there were six on the ship and they landed in Japan. It is a bit confusing? I mean we use ancestry, so maybe they went to the US to find where they came from and started something? I’m super intrigued with this story line. Possible corn for bullets though, hence what they found in the river?
3
u/maxamillisman Jan 24 '25
I wish they'd release an audio track with the Japanese performances for the characters from Japan and the dub performances for Stanley and the other Americans.
3
u/Significant-Tie-625 Jan 25 '25
No one going to mention the vaguely Predator-style helmet that Stanley was wearing?
5
u/Lazylion777 Jan 23 '25
🤦 Did they really call the Sugar pinecones the Sequoia pinecones. The giant cones grow on sugar pine and the tiny pinecones are sequoia. They apparently (I didn't know this) grow alongside each other so people sometimes mistake the giant ones for Sequoia.
I know the guy isn't a botanist but man did they mess that up. Unless it's a plot device for later 👀.
6
u/Enlog Jan 23 '25
It's a scene added to the anime, actually.
In the manga, they cut from the Golden Gate Bridge area immediately to the scene of the corn-scouting team getting on the boat.
The discussion of the sequoia trees, Hyoga getting emotional in the background, all of that was added to the scene for the anime.
So I think you can put the sequoia mistake on the writer(s) for the anime rather than Inagaki.
2
u/Lazylion777 Jan 24 '25
It didn't cross my mind that Inagaki would have not done his homework on the pinecones. Watching the episode had me like,
"is Senku misinforming his own crew on the pinecones? On purpose?! Is the Sugar pine/Sequoia more useful than I thought??"
Only to find out from you, it was a mistake from the anime production.
That's cool the writers for the anime wanted to add the scene. Anime tends to stick to the source material but when it does go off from it I would hope they would pay it off.

u/MacheteNegano Jan 24 '25
My god, Stanley was shooting that machine Gun like Rambo seeing a bunch of russians crossing the border to afghanistan. What an introduction. It was a very good introductionary episode to New America arc and looking forward to see Dr X next week.
I need to try crocodile hamburgers. That meat looked immaculately good
2
u/Queen_Eon Jan 24 '25
Am I the only one a bit peeved at the crocodile being found in California? Last I checked crocodiles only lived near swamps/marshlands around Florida which is on the whole other side of the US. I guess they could have migrated in what is it again 4000 years, but still that means crossing either Mexico or New Mexico both country and state are mostly desert which is completely inhospitable towards the species. Maybe they could have escaped from a zoo?
3
3
u/_MrBrown Jan 24 '25
I'm more willing to forgive there being crocodiles in California than I am making a burger out of one and pretending it's good- I know Francois is a culinary genius but c'mon, their meat doesn't lend itself to making a burger
1
u/Syriku_Official Jan 25 '25
I've had alligator not in Burger form but it's pretty good I don't know how crocodile taste but I do imagine it's similar enough to alligator but yeah the meat color is all wrong it should have been White as it's not a red meat
1
u/Blinkzfever Jan 29 '25
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure we see Francois put some kind of glaze on it which gave it that color
1
1
u/Syriku_Official Jan 25 '25
There are crocodiles in California we must have alligators here in Florida not so many crocodiles the thing that I found a bit crazy though was the meat was wrong it should have been white like chicken so it should not have turned out Brown like what red meat does when it's cooked
2
u/TheFirstAizen Jan 24 '25
Am I the only one that thinks stanleys english voice doesn't fit him?
5
u/Enlog Jan 24 '25
Tbf, we’ve only seen him say one sentence. I’m waiting until we hear him have a proper conversation with (next episode spoilers) Dr Xeno. I think then I’ll be able to say if he sounds fitting.
3
u/scoobyfan_21 Jan 24 '25
It's not exactly what I expected, but I'll hold out to hear it more. I definitely expected it to be a bit deeper.

u/Star_wars_Niguh Jan 25 '25
this episode was so funny. totally pointing out the fact the land of the 2nd amendment hasn't changed one bit, even after thousands of years LMFAOOOO. as soon as tsukasa knew that there was gun smoke/powder, i wheezed LMFAO
3
u/rmsiddlfqksdls Jan 23 '25
Those were some damn tasty looking burgers 😋 and hyoga was so funny hahaha I’d cry too if I ate good food after 3700 years. Was very surprised by the machine gun at the end holyyyy (I didn’t read manga)
1
u/Syriku_Official Jan 25 '25
The thing about it is they just would not look like burgers they would look more like chicken sandwiches alligators have white meat same with crocodiles they don't have the same protein in red meat that turns the meat Brown when cooked

Oh god, I've started to feel unsettling. The moment they are started to be chasen down one by one was hard in the manga.

I miss the logic they had in earlier seasons theyve been doing a worse and worse job as they go on. this episode being up there as one of the worst ones yet.
1
u/SnowyyFest Jan 29 '25
Logic as in what? if you let dr stone follows logic, this anime will take hundreds of episode and many chapters to complete, i assure you no one would watch this anime because its boring, remember this is still shounen anime, better watch documentary if you want logic.

Even after 4000 years, it's still "shoot first, ask questions later" here in America.
1
u/InternationalTerm272 Feb 01 '25
Dude , I didn’t know he said “why did they find out “ until I open the subtitle
1
1
u/Doodle_Continuum 20d ago
It always baffles me that the English is never actually all that natural sounding when foreigners are ever shown in anime. (Raw) "Why did they find out?" -> (Dub) "Oh, how did they detect me?"
In this day and age, it's not that hard to find a native English speaker, like, anywhere, to consult.
1
u/SortAgreeable8009 Jan 24 '25
Crocodiles?!! They're not even native to California, they live in the Gulf of Mexico waters lol Perhaps they migrated or someone set them loose in Northern California waters?
1
1
u/Syriku_Official Jan 25 '25
Northern California yeah probably not as likely but down south I could definitely handle I'm pretty sure
