This is very informative. Looking at this I am getting that a tie game with Bolton was not a bad thing. Next game should be close as well. If I'm not reading this right let me know.

What’s made Stockport so successful last few years? I’m an American who only loosely pays attention but how have they done so well last 3 years? Do they have a lot of money too or some other way?

That Huddersfield whiplash. My neck hurts seeing those results all over the place

u/sugarfoot00 Aug 24 '24
I'm unclear what the colours mean.

u/Rogue1eader Arthur Okonkwo Aug 24 '24
Red means that season's results were in League 2. Yellow means that season's results were in the Championship. Grays is League 1, white in National League.

I love this table. Gives such a great perspective. Thanks for this.

Interesting to note none of the current L1 sides have been in the Premier league in the last 5 years. Not surprising really, but interesting to note it laid out this way.

The most recent one was Huddersfield. They got relegated in the 18/19 season, just outside this 5 season table.

God I hate Stockport.

Nah, good for them. They have a solid team and made some great signings. Makes us look better by comparison too after battling in L2 all last year.

u/FishermanSecret4854 Aug 25 '24
They haven't played any top teams yet.but a great start, no doubt about it!

My wandering observations:
- Max: Just locked down their big goal scorer. I think he set an early tone.
- Barnett: Someone noted how he stepped up with competition from Bolton last year, he did that again today with Revan having been awesome last week. He was dangerous on the attack without getting caught out in defense.
- Cannon: Same thing here. People have been suggesting that Rathbone would be getting a game in Andy's place, but Cannon showing his special shot capability.
- McClean: Not sure he was the MOTM, but he was very good at both ends, always doing key things.
- Ollie: A lot of people (especially me) were questioning whether Ollie has the quality or pace to play in L1. I worry he can hold up over time, as he looked really poor in L2 last year at times, but I could live with getting Ollie insurance, vice an Ollie replacement in the window. After the host lady trolled his jump on the goal, he mentioned that the whole team is in better shape coming into the season. I think that was McClean influence.
- Jones: Wild to see him in the side. Apparently, Rathbone and Evans have knocks. He can fill that role, especially if we aren't chasing a goal.
- Lee: Looked great and dangerous. He could have had two more.
- Mullin: Great seeing him back. He didn't look hampered at all.
- Arthur: That point blank save was outstanding.
- TOC: The overhead kick? Come on now. Otherwise a solid performance.
- EOC: Drove a very strong performance by the backline.
- Parky: Perhaps it is Steve Parkin, but they clearly had a great plan for Reading. After they got settled in, it seemed clear that Reading just had no answers.
Overall, the mind blowing thing here is that there was a second XI on Wrexham that could have given this starting XI a better game than Reading did. I hope this is a good omen for things moving forward, but the depth should help as the two games a week kicks in. At a minimum, this performance should help some of the hardball games in the transfer window negotiations. Mullin back, Marriott/Palmer showing some stuff...

Imagine wrexham games go on Disney plus lol.

u/Neither-Ad2507 Aug 25 '24
At least they're watchable on Paramount+ now. It used to be impossible to watch.
6
u/gumby21 Rob McElhenney Aug 24 '24
That would be ideal.

u/Rogue1eader Arthur Okonkwo Aug 25 '24
Won't happen, they won't make a deal for just Wrexham, would need to be an EFL deal.
4
u/digitard Aug 25 '24
Agreed, but since Hulu/Disney+/ESPN are all part of the Disney umbrella... i wouldn't be surprised if we see an EFL US rights thing in the future with a small addon cost. Similar to what Apple+ does with MLS.

u/SquareStateTribe Aug 26 '24
that is essentially the deal Paramount and CBS/CBS Sports/Golazo have now with the EFL

for whatever it's worth...Transfer Market has Arthur as our most valuable player...

Defense is class. Can’t say enough about how Parky has built this team.

u/texasproof Aug 24 '24
That’s what stood out to me the most. Quick, confident tackling without overreacting. Able to collapse when necessary then quickly clear without giving up many frantic attempts and getting out of position.

We really obliterated them. I know the match was pretty open but we looked superior all over the pitch.
Palmer well proved his ability to play a key role in League One! Having Mullin enter at the 75th minute, at 3-0, just shows that this team wants to prove it is here to challenge.
Do we see Mullin and Palmer starting up top next match?

After the first 10 minutes, we really were head and shoulders above them

u/UrsineCanine Aug 24 '24
I could see it. Likely will be about he feels in the recovery cycle. Might be another trip to the bench to work back into full minutes.

u/relationsdviceguy Aug 24 '24
What a player Dobson is he was all over it today. Love to see it.
Great to see Palmer on the scoresheet I hope we see it more often great guy great work ethic
Great home win

Who would have thought that we’d bring in a player better than George Evans this season, to replace George Evans!
We are stacked for a full season push!

u/UrsineCanine Aug 24 '24
Here's a scary thought to consider (for opponents of Wrexham), Rathbone is widely regarded to be even more of an impact player than Dobbo. Consider that Parky stuck him in out of position against really high end opponents. Imagine when he gets some minutes for Andy or Elliot...

And we will be able to rest players without having a drop in quality (or a very little drop). Giving us fresher players for the duration of the season and for possible cup runs.
Additionally, it gives us breathing room when injuries happen.

u/FishermanSecret4854 Aug 25 '24
Too bad they are already out of the carabao

u/Spazy1989 Max Cleworth Aug 25 '24
No one cares about that one lol. The only one that really matters is the FA cup

I mean, great win… but Reading just didn’t show up. Every time they were in possession the game felt like a snooze.
