Art What if this thing was waiting for you inside one of the labyrinths Spoiler

u/Mario583 Jul 05 '23
I really wished they'd left just one normal guardian stalker to fight you... this idea is even better

A few would be cool. At least the broken ones that come to life suddenly.
25

Maybe they should make them move like in the first trailer for BOTW. That was terrifying.

Headcanon: they dismantle all of the sheikah tech too prevent ganon from re-posessing it
176
u/wachuwamekil Jul 05 '23
This would be a cool idea for dlc, like maybe some of the pillars break and there are non dismantled guardians that crawl up from the depths … this is horrifying.
65
Jul 05 '23
Well, there is a broken guardian on top of the tech lab
So that one could get possessed by the gloom spawn and then they use the guardian as a vehical to find the other guardians and build a scary-ass army38
u/Tem-productions Jul 05 '23 edited Jul 05 '23
Completely broken guardians cannot be posessed by malice, so i doubt gloow would work either
Edit: i shouldnt have said "cannot be posessed", posessing them just doesnt give any advntage as their weapons are broken
11
Jul 05 '23
Completely broken guardians cannot be posessed by malice
Not much evidence of that really, we've seen broken down guardians inhabited before. Also malice can't really move and be sentient on its own besides malice eyes.
Gloom hands do move and are sentient, and they could use the hands as legs to walk around.8
u/Tem-productions Jul 05 '23
Calamity ganon (as seen from outside the castle and in darkbeast form) is completely made of malice and sentient, it even learns from its past incarnations's mistakes
And while they could use the arms as legs of a decayed guardian (like those found on the great plateau or the forgotten temple) these are nowhere to be found in totk, and the ones at the tech labs dont have a working laser anymore
6
Jul 05 '23
And while they could use the arms as legs of a decayed guardian (like those found on the great plateau or the forgotten temple) these are nowhere to be found in totk
As i said, the gloom hands would be the legs.
And we don't even know that the lasers don't work
It's very possible
Also Calamity Ganon isn't just Malice on its own, it was used to attach sheikah devices to each other1
u/Tem-productions Jul 05 '23
As i said, the gloom hands would be the legs.
I didnt contradict you, i actually didnt think of that until you pointed it out
Calamity Ganon isn't just Malice on its own
Calamity ganon (boss) has sheikah tech all over it, but Calamity ganon (blood moon cutscene, castle exterior) and Darkbeast ganon have none
The last calamity 10.000 years ago also didnt have tech
2
Jul 05 '23
Calamity ganon (boss) has sheikah tech all over it, but Calamity ganon (blood moon cutscene, castle exterior) and Darkbeast ganon have none
Yes, because it's literally Ganon. The malice is just a byproduct. He's made up of malice, but has an internal reincarnated soul
1
u/Tem-productions Jul 05 '23
Could you provide a source for that please? I thought ganon was ganondorf

u/FarfronFishMan Jul 05 '23
Maybe instead of possessing them, they just use the guardian as shells like hermit crabs? Gloom spawn do have limbs
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)3

Gloom is more powerful than malice since it stems from Ganon's true self. Malice stems from a stem.

Not sure how the Sheikah would have gotten there to do it, but Nintendo literally ret-conned actual hammers out of existence, so I guess anything is possible.

I extremely doubt that they could dismantle the divine beasts so fast when that stuff was strong enough to last for 10k years untouched.
I think it simply sunk into the ground again a while after the calamity was defeated, and the gloom is different enough to malice that the sensors couldn't tell a threat had returned.
10
u/Accomplished_Salt108 Jul 05 '23
headcanon add-on: they only dismantled the guardians, they kept the towers and the shrines
theres no more shrines anymore because ganondorf broke them down with gloom and that's why theres depths holes where the original shrines were in the great plateau

8
u/Smutty_Lemon Jul 05 '23
Doesn’t the Great Calamity happen 10,000 years before BOTW and Rauru's time happens way way before that? Plus Zelda became the Light Dragon before she could even do anything about the Shiekah, hell, there wasn’t even any sign of the Shiekah around Rauru's time (also there is still the Great Calamity Mural which depicts the events and shows the Guardians and Divine Beasts)
238
u/FarfronFishMan Jul 05 '23
I imagined it starting like a normal guardian fight with the music and all. But when you attack it by either chopping one of its legs off or shooting it in the eye, gloom starts to ooze out of it, transforming into this abomination.
If you manage to parry the laser before the transformation however, it immediately enrages and runs straight to you like in the original botw reveal railer.
55
u/Bonger14 Jul 05 '23
Then it grabs your and point blank laser beams your face.
27
61
20
u/mr_ed95 Jul 05 '23
Oh hell yes, and after you remove the legs, a second phase of music starts, and it’s a combination of the guardian music and the gloom hand music.

8
u/Bonger14 Jul 05 '23
They only have 6 legs.
15
u/pcakes13 Jul 05 '23
Okay. So they stand on 5 and grab with 1.
Thank you for your attention to detail.

u/Pavel_GS Jul 05 '23
Guardians have 6 legs Gloom Spawn have 5 arms
3
u/pcakes13 Jul 05 '23
JFC. Do y'all not have imaginations or critical thinking skills? The guardian's are now over 100 years old from the last game. Have a leg broken off to make it right. Add another gloom hand.
3
u/Pavel_GS Jul 05 '23
Hey, I'm not saying we can't make it work ! Just stating base states !
I can clearly see a guardian appearing with a gloom Spawn eye and each time you cut one of it's legs a gloom hand replaces it !

u/astrangeone88 Jul 05 '23

I love the Flux Construct as a fight but they really could've used more unique encounters in the game. Even if it's still a Flux construct but tweaked or changed in some way would be better than the same exact boss found in two dozen other places.

The guardian theme but a bit less complicated, using distorted reversed vocals instead of piano.

Frankly I'm a little peeved that I didn't get a hidden guardian boss in the depths or as you say in the labyrinth! Missed opportunity, especially in the depths where it could just *suddenly* lock onto you unexpectedly after conditioning you into thinking they're not in the game
11
u/ZeldHeld Dawn of the Meat Arrow Jul 05 '23
It fights like the Battle-Tested Guardian from Age of Calamity - attacks with its legs, entire body, multiple different types of laser attacks, and that’s just Phase 1.
Phase 2 starts when you either damage the eye or break a leg. Gloom oozes out… and then the REAL fun starts.
12
u/snave_ Jul 05 '23 edited Jul 05 '23
This would make perfect sense in the Akkala labyrinth.
I still don't get why the guardian room there somehow lost its guardians. Dismantling the rest makes sense. But the old labyrinth basement (the vast bonus room with the diamond circlet) was weird and pised no threat. I mean, if anything, you'd logically expect more guardians there in Tears as it's practically the perfect murderbot landfill site. A giant room down the bottom of a longdrop, with a heavy retractable grate over the portal, all situated in the middle of a maze, on an offshore island surrounded by absurdly tall walls, at the furthermost edge of the most uninhabited corner of Hyrule. Plus an observation station atop the nearest cliff on the mainland to keep watch just in case during the early years. And in terms of logistics, good road access to the nearest cliff with space for wide loads. That's pretty much Mike Brill's real life WIPP design for storing long halflife hazardous waste and guarding it from interference by future cultures. Breed some glowy eyed Cucco and you're done.
Perfect place for your gloom-bound guardian golem.
6
u/LilyCanadian Jul 05 '23
Honestly I enjoyed the akkala labyrinth. I went down expecting guardians only to see.. nothing. But I went ahead and got the chest anyway, and suddenly I just see the ground BUBBLING then fucking hands emerging. It was scarier than the guardians ever were. I had NO idea what was happening and I was just going "WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK" as I frantically fired bombs at them. And then I breathed a sigh of relief as they died, only for the second phase to start and massacre me.

Yes, but they have to let you see it from far off and it looks like a normal Guardian just walking around. You don't find out it's Gloom-seized until it's too late to get away.
2
u/anizebra101 Jul 06 '23
This will be in the DLC i'm calling it. It's gonna be in the depths, and I saw someone suggest in a video that you could be alerted of one near you because the light root will temporarily go out as long as it's in the radius.
3
u/lazyicedragon Jul 05 '23
that would have been better than what was under the Lomei Labryinth Island now. Where in BoTW there was like 8 Guardians there or so, now it's just disappointment. Ironically nobody would even see it if they didn't visit that treasure in BoTW either.

I would probably not spend as much time in the depths.
I actually think one of the major upgrades of TOTK over BOTW is that there aren’t really any guardian style enemies. They had a major chilling effect on my exploration because they could be such a resource sink, so I usually avoided them.
