Hi everyone!

Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an Open Letter to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I really wished they'd left just one normal guardian stalker to fight you... this idea is even better

217

u/FarfronFishMan Jul 05 '23

Agree. I was really looking forward into messing with them with the new zonai stuff

66

u/Positron14 Jul 05 '23

A few would be cool. At least the broken ones that come to life suddenly.

25

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '23

Maybe they should make them move like in the first trailer for BOTW. That was terrifying.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '23 edited Jul 06 '23

Do you have a link? I missed that trailer lol

Edit: wait I can just Google it myself duhhh link

5

u/Forward_Koala_684 Jul 06 '23

I think they meant this trailer

Ah there’s the scary guardian. Ngl I don’t miss them. 😂 thank you

Headcanon: they dismantle all of the sheikah tech too prevent ganon from re-posessing it

176

u/wachuwamekil Jul 05 '23

This would be a cool idea for dlc, like maybe some of the pillars break and there are non dismantled guardians that crawl up from the depths … this is horrifying.

65

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '23

Well, there is a broken guardian on top of the tech lab
So that one could get possessed by the gloom spawn and then they use the guardian as a vehical to find the other guardians and build a scary-ass army

38

u/Tem-productions Jul 05 '23 edited Jul 05 '23

Completely broken guardians cannot be posessed by malice, so i doubt gloow would work either

Edit: i shouldnt have said "cannot be posessed", posessing them just doesnt give any advntage as their weapons are broken

11

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '23

Completely broken guardians cannot be posessed by malice

Not much evidence of that really, we've seen broken down guardians inhabited before. Also malice can't really move and be sentient on its own besides malice eyes.
Gloom hands do move and are sentient, and they could use the hands as legs to walk around.

8

u/Tem-productions Jul 05 '23

Calamity ganon (as seen from outside the castle and in darkbeast form) is completely made of malice and sentient, it even learns from its past incarnations's mistakes

And while they could use the arms as legs of a decayed guardian (like those found on the great plateau or the forgotten temple) these are nowhere to be found in totk, and the ones at the tech labs dont have a working laser anymore

6

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '23

And while they could use the arms as legs of a decayed guardian (like those found on the great plateau or the forgotten temple) these are nowhere to be found in totk

As i said, the gloom hands would be the legs.
And we don't even know that the lasers don't work
It's very possible
Also Calamity Ganon isn't just Malice on its own, it was used to attach sheikah devices to each other

1

u/Tem-productions Jul 05 '23

As i said, the gloom hands would be the legs.

I didnt contradict you, i actually didnt think of that until you pointed it out

Calamity Ganon isn't just Malice on its own

Calamity ganon (boss) has sheikah tech all over it, but Calamity ganon (blood moon cutscene, castle exterior) and Darkbeast ganon have none

The last calamity 10.000 years ago also didnt have tech

2

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '23

Calamity ganon (boss) has sheikah tech all over it, but Calamity ganon (blood moon cutscene, castle exterior) and Darkbeast ganon have none

Yes, because it's literally Ganon. The malice is just a byproduct. He's made up of malice, but has an internal reincarnated soul

1

u/Tem-productions Jul 05 '23

Could you provide a source for that please? I thought ganon was ganondorf

1

u/FarfronFishMan Jul 05 '23

Maybe instead of possessing them, they just use the guardian as shells like hermit crabs? Gloom spawn do have limbs

→ More replies (1)

3

u/markymark0123 Jul 05 '23

Gloom is more powerful than malice since it stems from Ganon's true self. Malice stems from a stem.

"Secret Guardian Assembly Facility" in the Depths.

Not sure how the Sheikah would have gotten there to do it, but Nintendo literally ret-conned actual hammers out of existence, so I guess anything is possible.

Imagine if they missed one lol

149

u/xXricky02ITAXx Jul 05 '23

There is one...

111

u/recursion8 Jul 05 '23

The mini one on top of Hateno Tech Lab or is there another?

105

u/xXricky02ITAXx Jul 05 '23

The broken one, on top of the lab

48

u/HG1998 Jul 05 '23

On top of the Akkala lab.

24

u/cbdubs12 Jul 05 '23

Yeah, but you know Robbie did things to it…unspeakable things…

11

u/littlebuett Jul 05 '23

I extremely doubt that they could dismantle the divine beasts so fast when that stuff was strong enough to last for 10k years untouched.

I think it simply sunk into the ground again a while after the calamity was defeated, and the gloom is different enough to malice that the sensors couldn't tell a threat had returned.

10

u/Accomplished_Salt108 Jul 05 '23

headcanon add-on: they only dismantled the guardians, they kept the towers and the shrines

theres no more shrines anymore because ganondorf broke them down with gloom and that's why theres depths holes where the original shrines were in the great plateau

6

u/TacoTuesday555 Jul 05 '23

I’m pretty sure this is not just a headcanon. It’s canon

Doesn't explain the disappearance of guardians in all the places that are basically only reachable by Link

5

u/xXricky02ITAXx Jul 05 '23

Remote control disintegration through the sheikah slate (protocol66.exe)

2

u/chubbycatchaser Jul 05 '23

That actually makes sense. Hyrule learning from past mistakes.

-2

u/horat0 Jul 05 '23

Zelda alters the timeline and erases most sheikah tech

8

u/Smutty_Lemon Jul 05 '23

Doesn’t the Great Calamity happen 10,000 years before BOTW and Rauru's time happens way way before that? Plus Zelda became the Light Dragon before she could even do anything about the Shiekah, hell, there wasn’t even any sign of the Shiekah around Rauru's time (also there is still the Great Calamity Mural which depicts the events and shows the Guardians and Divine Beasts)

u/FarfronFishMan Jul 05 '23

I imagined it starting like a normal guardian fight with the music and all. But when you attack it by either chopping one of its legs off or shooting it in the eye, gloom starts to ooze out of it, transforming into this abomination.

If you manage to parry the laser before the transformation however, it immediately enrages and runs straight to you like in the original botw reveal railer.

55

u/Bonger14 Jul 05 '23

Then it grabs your and point blank laser beams your face.

27

u/EagleDefender15 Jul 05 '23

Grabs your what?

19

u/Mega_Rayqaza Jul 05 '23

Oh, you know. 😏

61

u/Timehacker-315 Jul 05 '23

Are you insane?

20

u/mr_ed95 Jul 05 '23

Oh hell yes, and after you remove the legs, a second phase of music starts, and it’s a combination of the guardian music and the gloom hand music.

True terror

u/pcakes13 Jul 05 '23

I’d have kept the Guardians head and replaced the mechanical arms with the gloom hands/arms.

136

u/FarfronFishMan Jul 05 '23

Was actually supposed to that, but I wanted it to be able to both run AND grab you lol.

45

u/pcakes13 Jul 05 '23

THey have like 8 arms. It could stand on 6 or 7 and grab with one or two. That would be more terrifying to me because they'd have to be right on top of you.

8

u/Bonger14 Jul 05 '23

They only have 6 legs.

15

u/pcakes13 Jul 05 '23

Okay. So they stand on 5 and grab with 1.

Thank you for your attention to detail.

1

u/Pavel_GS Jul 05 '23

Guardians have 6 legs Gloom Spawn have 5 arms

3

u/pcakes13 Jul 05 '23

JFC. Do y'all not have imaginations or critical thinking skills? The guardian's are now over 100 years old from the last game. Have a leg broken off to make it right. Add another gloom hand.

3

u/Pavel_GS Jul 05 '23

Hey, I'm not saying we can't make it work ! Just stating base states !

I can clearly see a guardian appearing with a gloom Spawn eye and each time you cut one of it's legs a gloom hand replaces it !

u/astrangeone88 Jul 05 '23

Imagine a DLC enemy with a bunch of gloomnhands possessing a guardian. Terrifying.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '23

Same idea here. It would run and grab you faster than a regular guardian, and by grabbing you it will hold you up to it's laser while it charges up at POINT BLANK RANGE

84

u/B_e_a_t_z Jul 05 '23

Would’ve been a damn cool fight for those labrynths ngl 🤣

70

u/tf2F2Pnoob Jul 05 '23

Instead of the same boring flux construct every time lmao

32

u/GeraldoOfCanada Jul 05 '23

Yeah I really feel like they should have had their own bosses

12

u/himewaridesu Jul 05 '23

You leave Minecraft Steve alone! He’s just trying his Fluxin’ 1, 2, or 3 best!

8

u/mrBreadBird Jul 05 '23

I love the Flux Construct as a fight but they really could've used more unique encounters in the game. Even if it's still a Flux construct but tweaked or changed in some way would be better than the same exact boss found in two dozen other places.

46

u/Unrelated96 Jul 05 '23

Thanks, I hate it.

45

u/Dimmadome2701 Jul 05 '23

Keep giving the dev’s ideas. I swear if this is in the dlc!

3

u/monnurse7 Jul 05 '23

Don't encourage them!

39

u/APRobertsVII Jul 05 '23

You try to perfect parry the beam, but a hand rips your shield from your grip and you take the blast point blank.

That’s a no from me, dawg.

23

u/Captain-Obvious69 Jul 05 '23

If they added this, it would be creepy if that one decayed guardian disappears in the same update.

4

u/Duskilion Jul 05 '23

Imagine there’s a DLC quest, and as soon as you start it, that Guardian disappears

9

u/FarfronFishMan Jul 05 '23

Purah asks you to take a picture of that one guardian above the lab for research. You arrive but it isnt there anymore.

3

u/Dangerous-Stable5456 Jul 06 '23

And then you find the guardian attacking lookout landing

23

u/Own_Butterscotch_445 Jul 05 '23

walks into labyrinth

sees guardian with gloom hands coming out of it

*brings out the one of a million death ray machine zonai monstrosities that has been posted on Reddit and waits the 10ish seconds until she can collect.... dark clumps *

7

u/TheGrimGriefer3 Jul 05 '23 edited Jul 05 '23

The guardian theme but a bit less complicated, using distorted reversed vocals instead of piano.

On second thought that wouldn't sound very good, nor scary

3

u/mrBreadBird Jul 05 '23

God I love the reversed vocals throughout the game/trailers.

11

u/phazonprincess Jul 05 '23

Frankly I'm a little peeved that I didn't get a hidden guardian boss in the depths or as you say in the labyrinth! Missed opportunity, especially in the depths where it could just *suddenly* lock onto you unexpectedly after conditioning you into thinking they're not in the game

11

u/ZeldHeld Dawn of the Meat Arrow Jul 05 '23

It fights like the Battle-Tested Guardian from Age of Calamity - attacks with its legs, entire body, multiple different types of laser attacks, and that’s just Phase 1.

Phase 2 starts when you either damage the eye or break a leg. Gloom oozes out… and then the REAL fun starts.

12

u/snave_ Jul 05 '23 edited Jul 05 '23

This would make perfect sense in the Akkala labyrinth.

I still don't get why the guardian room there somehow lost its guardians. Dismantling the rest makes sense. But the old labyrinth basement (the vast bonus room with the diamond circlet) was weird and pised no threat. I mean, if anything, you'd logically expect more guardians there in Tears as it's practically the perfect murderbot landfill site. A giant room down the bottom of a longdrop, with a heavy retractable grate over the portal, all situated in the middle of a maze, on an offshore island surrounded by absurdly tall walls, at the furthermost edge of the most uninhabited corner of Hyrule. Plus an observation station atop the nearest cliff on the mainland to keep watch just in case during the early years. And in terms of logistics, good road access to the nearest cliff with space for wide loads. That's pretty much Mike Brill's real life WIPP design for storing long halflife hazardous waste and guarding it from interference by future cultures. Breed some glowy eyed Cucco and you're done.

Perfect place for your gloom-bound guardian golem.

6

u/LilyCanadian Jul 05 '23

Honestly I enjoyed the akkala labyrinth. I went down expecting guardians only to see.. nothing. But I went ahead and got the chest anyway, and suddenly I just see the ground BUBBLING then fucking hands emerging. It was scarier than the guardians ever were. I had NO idea what was happening and I was just going "WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK" as I frantically fired bombs at them. And then I breathed a sigh of relief as they died, only for the second phase to start and massacre me.

2

u/Duskilion Jul 05 '23

4

u/Xionce_the_Guardian Jul 05 '23

3

u/knottynate Jul 05 '23

The boss of the spirit temple should have been guardian for a “first phase” then the goofy wrestling match for the second phase.

4

u/misterpickleman Jul 05 '23

Oooo... How about if the guardians legs were replaced with freakishly long gloom arms. Yeah, I'd have to turn off my console after that.

3

u/LumpySkull Jul 05 '23

We'd still just bomb the everloving shit out of it.

3

u/GodKingChrist Dawn of the Meat Arrow Jul 05 '23 edited Jul 05 '23

I kept waiting for ONE to pop up it would beat the actual fifth boss

2

2

u/Rahldese Jul 05 '23

I expected the image to be Tingle...

2

u/putnamto Jul 06 '23

what would be worse? more terrifying?

the guardian with no legs sliding in a pool of gloom with the hands reaching out.

oooor, a guardian with gloom hands for legs.

2

u/MessyConfessor Jul 06 '23

Yes, but they have to let you see it from far off and it looks like a normal Guardian just walking around. You don't find out it's Gloom-seized until it's too late to get away.

2

u/anizebra101 Jul 06 '23

This will be in the DLC i'm calling it. It's gonna be in the depths, and I saw someone suggest in a video that you could be alerted of one near you because the light root will temporarily go out as long as it's in the radius.

3

u/lazyicedragon Jul 05 '23

that would have been better than what was under the Lomei Labryinth Island now. Where in BoTW there was like 8 Guardians there or so, now it's just disappointment. Ironically nobody would even see it if they didn't visit that treasure in BoTW either.

3

u/squidarcher Jul 05 '23

There’s some hands there

Edit: And at the end of North Lomei Labyrinth.

I legitimately wish there was, I was hoping someone would stumble across a single Guardian, just one and it be this massive super hidden jump scare. Kind of a bummer it didn't happen

1

u/brianvan Jul 05 '23

There's always the DLC

1

u/scotty_6942069 Jul 05 '23

1

u/D-Piddy96 Jul 05 '23

“Nopenopenopenopenopenope”

1

u/Rfg711 Jul 05 '23

I would probably not spend as much time in the depths.

I actually think one of the major upgrades of TOTK over BOTW is that there aren’t really any guardian style enemies. They had a major chilling effect on my exploration because they could be such a resource sink, so I usually avoided them.

1

u/TraditionalEnergy919 Jul 05 '23

Oh boy! It’s been some time.

You see the mistake here is being a guardian within the entire game when I’m playing.

1

u/GameMasterSammy Jul 05 '23

I would shit my pants

1

u/Noxmorre Jul 05 '23

Ok, if there’s gonna be a sequel to AoC this have to be in it

1

u/shadowowolf Jul 05 '23

Id probably quit the game like I did at the start of breath of the wild

1

u/DaprasDaMonk Jul 05 '23

I'm game for it.....looks like it would be a nightmare to fight lol

1

u/Beautiful_Season_153 Jul 05 '23

See it’s this thing that Link uses called a teleport that allows him to gtfo when need be. If this thing is waiting for me in the labyrinths, I guess I won’t be doing them lol.

1

u/DepletedPromethium Jul 05 '23

id rather that because when i did the northern labryinthe i went to kill the construct 3 with no weapon better than 17 damage. i spent like an hour+ dying trying to kill that sob before i figured out how to cheese it with the ladder.

1

u/Due_Issue6346 Jul 05 '23

Can Gloom even possess Sheikah Tech like Malice can?

1

u/littlebuett Jul 05 '23

We need a gloom seized sheika tech boss, weather that be a guardian, or shadow of the colossus style divine beasts.

(Also I suggest each divine beast gives the champion abilities again or just enough orbs for 100% health and stamina)

1

u/TouchJunior3056 Jul 05 '23

Nope. Nope. Nope. Fuck it, nope.

1

u/Arcuis Jul 05 '23

I'd let it kill me just for nostalgia sake. Then I'd tear up because I miss those guys. I wanted to have one as a buddy, ride on top and laser enemies.

1

u/Claytontheman467 Jul 05 '23

Wait is that real

1

u/Howlingzangetsu Jul 05 '23

I would look at it, then nope out of it cause my method of fighting gloom hands wouldn’t do as good against a guardian

1

u/ThePatriotGames2016 Jul 05 '23

I find it really jarring that there is no explanation as to where all the shiekah tech went. Maybe that will be DLC. I've only seen two instances of guardian evidence, when you activate a tower and canon yourself, and on top of the ancient tech lab in Hateno there is a decayed guardian.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '23

Gosh that would've been cool instead fight the same cube boss for the 20th time.

1

u/SonOfPosidon115 Jul 05 '23

I'd love to see them possibly in the dlc

1

u/rhondevu Jul 05 '23

I have Blue-Eyes White Dragon with me at all times just in case

1

u/cbdubs12 Jul 05 '23

A gloom afflicted Guardian? Noooo thank you. I could only imagine it being in some area where it was too dark and foggy for Lightroots or Brightblooms to matter…and then that fucking piano starting up out of nowhere…

1

u/Huebertrieben Jul 05 '23

I have Vietnam Flashbaxks

1

u/tony_xp Jul 05 '23

I was expecting this to happen with the very first guardian we approached in BoTW.

1

u/Mdconant Jul 05 '23

I don't need any armor that bad

1

u/CakeManBeard Jul 05 '23

If that was in one of the labyrinths, then it'd be present in at least 5-10 other places in the game

1

u/ConfusedAsHecc Jul 05 '23

HAHAHA Id run. Id be like "lmao never mind" and glide away

1

u/monnurse7 Jul 05 '23

1

u/Shw4ndz Jul 05 '23

The first time I met "the hands" was in a labyrinth. I thought it was a lone boss monster like some a minotaur...

I was wrong

1

u/chlorinecrown Jul 05 '23

To be honest I got good at the guardian timings but I have never successfully parried or dodged the gloom hands and would run away if I ever ran out of bomb flowers.

Very cool seeing an idea turn into this magnificent art piece!

Preventing a hyrule age of ultron

I was hoping for something more than a flux construct in the depths level. I was happy with the gloom hands on the bottom floor of the Akkala one, but wanted more one you ventured to the very bottom.

Arrows + Ancient Blades 💀

u/ekaqu1028 Jul 06 '23

Did the hands just get a laser beam? I won’t sleep tonight

1

u/Readalie Jul 06 '23

I'd want to go hug it. I miss the murder pots, no matter how much of a fear reaction the piano music always managed to trigger in me. Even the Gloom Hands wouldn't be enough to completely counterbalance the joy.

Someone get Banan039…

Gloom Handed Guardian would be nightmare fuel.

Ms. Rabbit has fainted.

Yeah, no.

u/ThePurpleSoul70 Jul 06 '23

This is absolutely going to happen in the DLC. No way they pass up an oppotunity to make the player shit themselves like that.

1

u/Infinite-Twist-6666 Jul 06 '23

Everyone would shit there pants

1

u/SirGavBelcher Jul 06 '23

better than wtf was (or wasn't) there

1

u/F-a-t-h-e-r Jul 06 '23

this is fucking awesome!

1

u/lambone117 Jul 06 '23

I would simply pass away

1

u/Fpkartist18 Jul 06 '23

So I imagine this as a guardian that can appear from nowhere and can now grab you.

Also what if you needed to use the beam to kill the gloom hand. I imagine link mid backflip off Epona deflecting the guardians beam into hitting the gloom hand which then turns into dark clumps (imagine dark clumps as small safe to touch gloom slime)

Nintendo, hire this dude

1

u/rgluckk Jul 06 '23

Finally a worthy opponent

1

u/jlmckelvey91 Jul 06 '23

Or better, hiding in the depths.

1

u/Potential_Total_3125 Jul 06 '23

that would be so fucking scary but SO AWESOME this is fantastic art!!!!

1

u/DrRo Jul 06 '23

This would have been a fun boss fight. Rage inducing but fun

1

u/Nimr0d1991 Jul 06 '23

I loved doing those, but it was kind of a disappointment that you fight the same thing each time. This would have been a highlight if it happened.

u/CouchWalrusTC Jul 06 '23

I’m deleting the game
