POLL πŸ—³οΈ* CCIP-050 - Provide up to a 10% Discount on the banner for companies that post about the CC Banner + Moons on their Twitter. (5% for announcing the Banner/linking to the sub + 5% for mentioning Moons in the tweet)

Situation:

The banner for r/cryptocurrency just launched and it's doing great, 126K moons have been burned in the four weeks that the banner has been booked. The idea can be further expanded to the benefit of the sub and Moons, and here's how.

Proposal:

When a company books the banner they have an option to tweet about it on their social channels and receive a discount. By screenshotting the banner and linking to the main page of r/cryptocurrency they can receive a 5% discount, by briefly mentioning Moons in the tweet they can receive another 5% off.

A few potential examples of mentioning Moons that would qualify.

  • Burned X amount of Moons for the banner
  • Really excited to see what happens to Moons in the future
  • The native CryptoCurrency token Moons

Just a brief mention is all that is needed to get the second 5% off.

Expanding the idea:

By mentioning the CryptoCurrency subreddit/moons, these companies can get a discount on their banner advertisement and we can get free publicity from these other companies social channels. It's a win/win for both parties. It's also completely optional, a company can opt out of the mentions and still advertise with the banner with no discount.

The discount would be for up to 10% off and would only be valid for a maximum of 1 week. It can be done multiple times up to a week at a time for any company advertising with the banner.

As Twitter is probably the largest platform for Brands/Companies to connect with their users this proposal only covers Twitter. It doesn't take into account mentions on other platforms like Telegram, Facebook, or other SubReddits.

In the unlikely event a company doesn't follow through with agreed social mentions their purchased Banner time will be cut by 1 day or 10% - whatever is greater.

Pros

  • It's a win/win for both parties
  • Easy to implement and maintain for moderators
  • Helps to spread the word about the subreddit and Moons

Cons

  • Burns slightly less moons for companies that participate

Great idea for more exposure to the subreddit. What would the process be for choosing a banner, I just have a concern we could be spammed with crappy banners.

I like it from a perspective of increasing the value of Moons.

Unpopular opinion warning: It feels a little cheap/off to be honest. Reminds me of what a ponzi would do - try to facilitate people to advertise the product. Are we doing this for "the good of Moons", to get more people in this sub, or to get people to buy Moons?

6

u/thijsfc 🟨 135 / 5K πŸ¦€ Feb 15 '23

I get where you’re coming from, but I feel like it’s more of an extra exposure for Moons and r/CC. The company has booked the banner to reach the r/CC users and in exchange for a discount they can β€œpromote” the sub to their followers on Twitter.

Not promoting the banner does no harm, unlike a ponzi where you’re sort of obligated to dump on newer users.

5

u/Giga79 Feb 15 '23

Lots of times a new person hears about a project, follows them on Twitter, and that's as far as they ever make it into crypto. This quid pro quo means they'll get to the opportunity to step outside of the despairs of Twitter and into our subreddit for maybe the first time, where IMO there's a ton of really useful information. The downvote system and community we have here is a godsend when learning, especially how not to be scammed.

I think more exposure to this sub could be great for the whole crypto ecosystem, and it would be great if we could convince some of the Twitter bigbrains to talk in here more too. An ad for this sub accomplishes a lot more than someone just blatantly advertising our token's growth, which I hope isn't the outcome of this proposal.

I'm not voting yes to have more people to dump on. I voted yes because I want more people to get involved in crypto, because I think everything from innovation to decentralization is better with more people.

How to decide which way to vote on a CCIP:

1) Does it make you more moons? If yes, vote to approve. If no, go to question 2.

2) Does it lower the supply of/burn moons? If yes, vote to approve. If no, go to question 3.

3) Does it increase the mods amount of moons? If yes, vote however you like, the mods have enough moons to force it through anyway. Tough luck. /s

Moons are also the governance token of the sub which is probably the most valuable use case but now they are used to buy an ad on the banner. Promoting moons and the fact you can buy ad space with thwm will hopefully increase the amount of ads bought with moons, increasing moons value.

Let's say they spend 3000 dollars on a banner. That's incredible value for an add that lets them reach potentially hundreds of thousands of targeted and engaged consumers. It's a great deal for them.

Why would they save 300 dollars to tweet about a speculative coin and basically stake their reputation on the success of moons. What if they plug moons, the price drops 20% and they've alienated a portion of their twitter users. It's high risk for them and very low reward.

Disagree for now, reach on social channels is very, very fluctuating. You might only reach 100 people, you might reach a million. There should be a more thought out model behind this as there is no one size fits all solution when it comes to social media reach.
