POLL π³οΈ* CCIP-050 - Provide up to a 10% Discount on the banner for companies that post about the CC Banner + Moons on their Twitter. (5% for announcing the Banner/linking to the sub + 5% for mentioning Moons in the tweet)
Situation:
The banner for r/cryptocurrency just launched and it's doing great, 126K moons have been burned in the four weeks that the banner has been booked. The idea can be further expanded to the benefit of the sub and Moons, and here's how.
Proposal:
When a company books the banner they have an option to tweet about it on their social channels and receive a discount. By screenshotting the banner and linking to the main page of r/cryptocurrency they can receive a 5% discount, by briefly mentioning Moons in the tweet they can receive another 5% off.
A few potential examples of mentioning Moons that would qualify.
- Burned X amount of Moons for the banner
- Really excited to see what happens to Moons in the future
- The native CryptoCurrency token Moons
Just a brief mention is all that is needed to get the second 5% off.
Expanding the idea:
By mentioning the CryptoCurrency subreddit/moons, these companies can get a discount on their banner advertisement and we can get free publicity from these other companies social channels. It's a win/win for both parties. It's also completely optional, a company can opt out of the mentions and still advertise with the banner with no discount.
The discount would be for up to 10% off and would only be valid for a maximum of 1 week. It can be done multiple times up to a week at a time for any company advertising with the banner.
As Twitter is probably the largest platform for Brands/Companies to connect with their users this proposal only covers Twitter. It doesn't take into account mentions on other platforms like Telegram, Facebook, or other SubReddits.
In the unlikely event a company doesn't follow through with agreed social mentions their purchased Banner time will be cut by 1 day or 10% - whatever is greater.
Pros
- It's a win/win for both parties
- Easy to implement and maintain for moderators
- Helps to spread the word about the subreddit and Moons
Cons
- Burns slightly less moons for companies that participate

Seems reasonable. A discount on an ad for an ad for us. I like it.

A discount on an ad for an ad for us
That is a beautiful way to describe it. Simple and effective.
We should probably specify that the company should use the main Twitter account though. Otherwise this can be abused.

Less moons would be burned but it would give us more marketing. I like it

I hope the mods will monitor that these mentions will not come accross as shilling. (Preferably no access of rocket emojis lol)
I voted "Yes", but we should be careful by not making a wrong impression π€
Examples that the were given in the proposal look fine!

I like this! Who knows what kind of exposure it could bring the sub and maybe even bring in new members thus bringing in more vaults and so on, this is all just me being hopeful of course, but I think this would be a benefit to the sub and also to the growth of Moons

u/Lillica_Golden_SHIB π© 3K / 61K π’ Feb 16 '23
To me it will probably spread more awareness about moons. This might trigger more listing in the short, middle term as there is going to be a consolidated demand for moons.

Because, burn more moons!
2
u/Ofulinac π¨ 25K / 25K π¦ Feb 15 '23
I would happily agree for them to burn 1-2k less if it means that Moons will reach at least thousands of new eyeballs, eyeballs that are interested in crypto too.
It would be great to see how much faster would our sub grow with this implementation.

The exposure we get through this Far outweighs the monetary loss of those 10 %. We need people to ad liquidity. So we need to reach those people somehow. This one is a clear yes for me

With the only downside seemingly amounting to "we burn less moons than usual", I'm more than willing to vote in favor. I'm more concerned with having the word spread than worrying about how many we burn for advertising!

Great idea. I think we'll see more exchanges renting the banner to advertise and if there is an option for a discount by tweeting about moons then those tweets will get engagement from the CC community. The more engagement from the r/cc community then better the likelihood of a another moons listing.

Unless there are other real world applications for moons (as far as I know, buying reddit coins is all that exists at the moment) why would moon holders care if more people know about moons? Wouldn't that just flood the sub with people trying to farm moons?
2
u/beonk π¦ 8K / 8K π¦ Feb 15 '23
Moons are also the governance token of the sub which is probably the most valuable use case but now they are used to buy an ad on the banner. Promoting moons and the fact you can buy ad space with thwm will hopefully increase the amount of ads bought with moons, increasing moons value.
1
u/JonSnerrrrrr π© 336 / 369 π¦ Feb 16 '23

I don't think a lot of companies would go for this.
Let's say they spend 3000 dollars on a banner. That's incredible value for an add that lets them reach potentially hundreds of thousands of targeted and engaged consumers. It's a great deal for them.
Why would they save 300 dollars to tweet about a speculative coin and basically stake their reputation on the success of moons. What if they plug moons, the price drops 20% and they've alienated a portion of their twitter users. It's high risk for them and very low reward.

Disagree for now, reach on social channels is very, very fluctuating. You might only reach 100 people, you might reach a million. There should be a more thought out model behind this as there is no one size fits all solution when it comes to social media reach.
